WHAT IS THE FRIENDS OF CANADIAN CHAROLAIS FOUNDATION (FCCF)?

One of the most vital pieces for the future of Charolais breed in Canada is to develop the Friends of Canadian Charolais Foundation.

Incorporated in 2021, the Friends of Canadian Charolais Foundation (FCCF) is a not-for-profit registered foundation put in place to continue development of and expand the Charolais breed, for future generations to enjoy and take part in. A board of directors, which consists of dedicated volunteers who are actively involved in the Charolais breed, govern the foundation. The foundation is driven by focusing on its key objectives; education, promotion, scientific research and youth development.

WHAT ARE THE KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE FRIENDS OF THE CANADIAN CHAROLAIS FOUNDATION? Scholarships, Bursaries & Prizes To provide scholarships, bursaries and prizes to advance education in the field of beef production.

Youth To provide funding for the advancement and benefit of youth agricultural activities.

Education & Research To promote education, research and development concerning specific agricultural topics that will benefit the entire beef industry.

To provide education and research opportunities in the field of beef production.

Fundraising To raise funds to carry on the purpose of the Corporation.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FRIENDS OF THE CANADIAN CHAROLAIS FOUNDATION? There are numerous ways that you can support and contribute to the FCCF. In addition to donating to or purchasing from the annual Foundation Fundraising Auction, you can also use other traditional methods of support such as cash donations, sponsorships, memorial donations, etc. Please contact any of the FCCF board to answer any questions that you may have, or for assistance on how to contribute.

Your contributions and support are an investment into the breed, industry and future generations.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FRIENDS OF THE CANADIAN CHAROLAIS FOUNDATION? The Friends of Canadian Charolais Foundation will be having its Annual General Meeting on June13th, immediately following the CCA AGM. If you are interested in the Foundation, or in becoming a board member, be sure to attend.

1 DONATION HEIFER This spring, 12 breeders from Quebec got together to purchase a heifer.

We created a lottery to decide from which farm the heifer was to be purchased from.

Ferme Coujo Charolais was the winner of the lottery, and from that, Miss Coujo Fafelu 506N was purchased.

Miss Coujo Fafelu 506N is a beautiful deep deep-bodied heifer calf.

She is the daughter of Cedarlea Gibson 55G. She should make a promising prospect.

This female will be sold by Dutch auction with tickets only $10.00 each.

Tickets will be auctioned off at the sale, with the draw being made at the end of the sale.

Call any FCCF board members if you would like to purchase tickets before the sale.

The heifer will stay on the farm until after she is weaned in September and then put on a transport for her new home.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM DEADLINE TO APPLY JUNE 30, 2025

Why Apply?

2024 MENTORS & MENTEES

The goal of the mentorship program is to establish a strong, educational relationship between the young people of our industry and established highly knowledgeable respected leaders providing relevant training and mentorship with the opportunity to broaden the mentees network and connect with industry stakeholders to positively impact personal development and success.

Who Can Apply?

This program is targeted at young adults between the ages of 22-30. These individuals should demonstrate interest in the Charolais/Cattle Industry and are a Canadian resident.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH TRAVEL

Justin Harcourt, Quill Lake, Saskatchewan & Maddie Saunders Markdale, Ontario attended the 2024 Charolais Charbray International Youth Program in Australia

Charolais Charbray International along with its members host an International Youth Program annually.

This Program started by Helge and Candace By in 2018 was hosted the first two years by Canada and moves from country to country. Charolais Charbray International pays each participating country 1000 Euros towards their participation. The CCA covers the additional registration fee for the participants. The Friends of the Canadian Charolais Foundation has provided the travel funding for two youth to attend these conferences. In 2023, the Program was held in Ireland and in 2024 the Program was held in Australia.

Canada will be hosting the 2025 Program.

EDUCATION AT THE 2024 CCYA CONFERENCE Friends of the Canadian Charolais Foundation sponsored an educational afternoon for all Canadian Charolais Youth Association 2024 participants. The youth learned how to handle semen and got to try threading the cervix.

Funds at W ork TRAVEL BURSARY Kelly Howe (Left) and Keith Black (right) Chair and Vice Chair of the Friends of the Canadian Charolais Foundation presented 6 participants of the Canadian Youth Conference and Show with $500 cheques to assist with travel to attend the event in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

BREEDERS’ SCHOOL The second Friends of the Canadian Charolais Association Foundations Breeder School saw 60 plus breeders attend the events in Moose Jaw in conjunction with the 2024 CCA AGM. The program included a tour of BoviGen Genetic Centre’s sate of the art collection facility and three guest speakers at the Johnstone Auction Mart. Dr. Tyson Buyer talked about the estrous cycle and how it all works.

Dr. Colin Palmer from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon gave a presentation on Optimizing Semen Testing for Your Bulls “The Breeding Soundness Exam”.

The final speaker was Gary Brown, the Beef Sales Manager of Canada for Cargill Animal Nutrition. He talked about making sure you are feeding the right mineral mix for your cows and not doubling up. It was a very informative program and was enjoyed by all.
