elcome to our Ninth Annual Bull & Female Herd Reduction Sale on February 9, 2020. I would like to thank all of the people that have expressed an interest in our program and the repeat customers over the years that have purchased bulls and heifers. Your confidence and support is very much appreciated. It is with mixed emotions that we warmly welcome you to this year’s bull sale. In addition to selling this year’s bulls we are also selling the youth of our Purebred herd. There will be open heifers, breds, first, second, third and fourth calvers and a select group of cows that have bulls in the sale this year or have contributed greatly to our success over the years.

The decision to do this wasn’t made until late last fall in October when Ben Wright and Chris Poley were touring the herd. The choice to sell the future heart and soul of this herd was difficult because my dad, Bob and I started this herd back in the spring of 1992 with a small herd of 45 cows. After the passing of my dad in the fall of 2007, Amber and I have kept building the herd slow and steady to what it is today. The time is right for us to slow down as a family. We are not getting out of cows but reducing our numbers and going with a commercial herd of 200 instead of the usual 450 cows that we had normally.

Here is a brief history of when and where we started selling bulls. We started going to the Regina Bull Sale in the spring of 2000 with a few two-year olds. 2006 was the last year we were at Regina.

We were invited to be a part of a new Simmental sale starting in Whitewood, SK with four other consignors called Proudly Western Bull Sale. The number and quality of bulls that we were selling kept growing. We were part of this successful sale for four years. The end goal for us was to have our own sale at home in Estevan. February13, 2011 that dream became a reality when we hosted our first sale at the ranch. The quality and numbers of bulls sold over the years has steadily grown. We have added selling open commercial heifers to the sales over the years.

Our Simmental herd has always calved in April out on stockpiled grass. Selling two-year old Simmental bulls was not the norm when we started in 2000. We were one of the first to completely sell all two-year olds and build our program around that concept. Most breeders were always selling yearlings. For us taking the extra year to develop these bulls has given us a great product to market and the customer feedback on the bulls have always been positive.

The bull offering has never been better quality or more uniform from top to bottom. Come look and we know you will be impressed. We are incredibly proud of our bulls and female herd and hope you will take the time to go through the catalogue. Not all of the purebred cows will have a picture in the catalogue but there will be a live video of each lot for your evaluation.

The bulls and cows are both on a full herd health plan. The females were given a shot of Bovi Shield Gold in April before breeding. All head in the sale were given a pour on product for lice control in early November. The females were pregnancy checked on December 12, 2019.

If time permits, come and view the bulls, females and sires at the ranch, 1.5 miles west of Estevan on Highway 39. If you cannot make it to the sale, I or the staff at T Bar C: Chris Poley, Shane Michelson and Ben Wright can help you with an order or evaluation.

Mark Shologan will be in charge of internet bidding through DLMS. A video of each bull and female will be available for viewing on the dlms.ca and www. buyagro.com websites in late January.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our journey in the Simmental business! We are so proud of this cowherd and this has been the hardest decision we have ever had to make! This herd of cows is our life’s work and we are simply running out of energy to continue at this pace. We do not believe in doing anything half way so we have decided to offer this opportunity to those with the energy and passion to take this herd to the next level.

This hard-working family is all agriculture based and have been for decades. But first, let’s talk about the bulls on offer. The 50 two-year olds that are available are the strongest set Diamond M has ever assembled. Mostly due to the fact the Manteis don’t hold back when it comes to purchasing herd bulls. Many 1/2 and 3/4 brothers are available that are uniform and ready to cover lots of cows. There aren’t many cases where you see a strictly two-year-oldSimmental bull sale.So, take advantage of these extra age characters!

Truly a sale feature is the 85 cows on offer. Literally from the core of the herd that rivals around the 500 mother cows. You’ll see many relations to the bull pen selling that will give you lots of confidence in what you are able to obtain. Also, the cream of the open heifer pen is available, this has to be one of the few chances in volume all spring where you are able to buy purebred Simmental females. Truly a set of cows worth seeing.

As mentioned, the Mantei family is wholesome to the ag sector and the livestock industry.

Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE

Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE

In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

GUARANTEE

Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association, with regard to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.

CONDITIONS

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association, unless otherwise specified. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller.

T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

BACKGROUND DEVELOPMENT OF BULLS All of the bulls come as virgin bulls ready to go breed cows for you. The bulls are developed in large pens to promote exercise and give them lots of room to get away when fights occur. The bulls go through four culling phases before they ever reach the sale catalogue. They are culled once in the fall at weaning. Second time is when they go to grass as yearlings in May. Third time is when they come off of grass in September. Fourth and final time is in January before we make the sale catalogue. This process assures that you are buying quality two year old bulls that are developed slowly and will last a long time for their new owner.

HEALTH PROGRAM OF BULLS As bull calves they are given Bovi-Shield Gold One Shot and Ultra Choice 8 (Blackleg) at turn out in May and again at weaning in November. The following spring turn out to summer grass as yearlings, the bulls are given the same vaccination shots for the third time. All of the bulls received Ivermectin pour on in November.

NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM OF BULLS The bulls are fed a TMR (total mixed ration) which includes chopped hay, corn silage, brown oats and 2:1 breeder mineral package. All of the ingredients in the ration are harvested on our own land to ensure a quality feed mix.
