Welcome to our 18th Annual Bull Sale

Wow! Here we are at our 18th bull sale. What a journey and adventure this is. Again we were blessed with a great calf crop and a strong set of bulls to offer you. We have new and proven blood lines to offer you that we are excited about; new bloodlines from our herd sire, Greenwood Double Down and proven from our herd sires, Sirloin Candid, Wulfs Zero Turn, Diamond C The Champ, DMM Stache, Diamond C Way Cool and even one we didn’t plan from a visiting Charolais bull. It is amazing how our Limousin breed compliments and crosses with other breeds. Not only are our Limousin bulls strong, but our Limflex and Char-crosses are very strong as well. Just shows the diversity of this breed. I will talk about the specific traits on each of these sires in their reference sire write ups. The bulls we have on offer are a strong set with something for everyone, performance bulls, maternal bulls and calving ease bulls for your heifer pen. It is a compliment as the majority of our bulls go to repeat customers. We thank you for showing confidence in our program. We also welcome any new customers and look forward to a new relationship with you. Like we always say, “We like to treat you the way we would like to be treated and we always stand behind our bulls.” We were blessed that we were able to put up enough feed for the year and that the hail just missed our corn crop. Our bulls are grown out slowly so they will last for you. The bulls this year are being fed a mixture of corn and barley silage, with the addition of around 1.2% grain of body weight in their ration. They are started on this ration in September. As you know our bulls could always be pushed more, however we want them to last for you and not be burned out. Having our bulls look good and not overdone is our goal. Our Yearling weights are down slightly. However that is understandable, the calves had no creep and we had one of the toughest springs we have ever had. Then we had drought throughout the summer and hail on some pastures. We didn’t think it was fair to expect them to be up with weights from other years. We also want to ensure you that we do and have always had a strong relationship with our vets at Central Vet Clinic in Ponoka. Predominantly Dr. Kelly Loree who has overseen our program for years. We have a commitment to raising quality animals that have the utmost in herd husbandry present. We also use nutritionists to make sure our cattle are on the best nutrition they can be on. Raising cattle and farming takes a dedicated family. We all work hard to bring you the very best we can. Sherry is my rock and helps out with everything. Braeden is working on becoming an Ag Technician at John Deere and helping out here when he can. Annie is in Grade 12 working hard, has become an accomplished barrel racer and spends most of her spare time with the cattle helping with all aspects. It takes a dedicated team here to bring you the best we can and always it encompasses help from our community and neighbors. Thank you to all of you. We welcome you to come by previous to the sale to view the bulls, so you can analyze which bull fits your program. Come to our open house which is on March 10 from 1:00 till 4:00 pm. This gives you added time to look at the bulls so you are not rushed on sale day. If you are unable to attend, we will look after your bids either by phone or talking to you previous to the sale. If you are not satisfied with our sight unseen recommendations then you are not obligated to keep the bull. Our sale will be live on the internet for you to watch and bid through VJV Auctions. We thank them for always doing a fantastic job. If you have any questions regarding internet bidding, please contact Craig Jacklin at 403-783-1453. Come spend the day with us, have lunch and take in the sale on March 11. Come early, stay late and PUT A “DIAMOND” IN YOUR HERD.

DIAMOND C THE CHAMP

Diamond C “The Champ” is a son of the great Excels Popeye bull who left his mark in our herd. His dam is one of our top cows, Diamond C Zaharra, who was also the dam of our high selling lot in 2015, Diamond C Bob Seger. “The Champ” sires cattle with great temperaments, really nice hair coats and look for them to make wonderful females. We used Popeye quite a lot so “The Champ” was only used selectively. He is single black so he throws both red and black calves. He is a pleasure to have around; he is super quiet and always stays out of fighting with the other herd bulls. He has some of the performance bulls in this year’s lineup. If you’re looking to improve your females and your temperament in your herd then take a look at The Champ’s sons. They will not disappoint.

DIAMOND C WAY COOL

Here is a great herd sire who has a unique story. We sold a half interest in him several years ago to Roaring River Limousin in Manitoba. We used him on heifers as he was a calving ease bull. That crop of him was exceptional and saw Diamond C You’re Cool go to Richmond Ranch and do a great job for their program for years. Then Way Cool went to Manitoba for a while where they used him in their heifer pen as well. We had the opportunity to bring him home and he looked amazing as an older, mature bull. Neither of us had used him on cows so we grabbed this opportunity to see what he would do on some performance cows and he did not disappoint. In fact, we are adding one of his bulls, Diamond C Exciter, to our herd bull pen. In this sale there are a few two year olds and some exciting yearlings who have his tremendous potential. Look for his sons to add milk as we have had daughters before and there is no shortage of milk there. They also have tremendous hair coats, outstanding feet and leg structure and nice scrotal development. He has calving ease in his pedigree because he was used only on heifers, this explains why his growth EPDs are down a bit. They are above average bulls or they would not be in the sale. Some will be great for your heifers as heifer bulls and some of these bulls offered have the potential to be the best performance herd bulls yet.

SIRLOIN CANDID What more can we say about this great bull. Arguably the best heifer bull we have ever used. He sires low birth weight calves perfect for first calf heifers. For the most part they have performance as well. Exactly what we were looking for! Unfortunately, due to an injury, he is no longer here and we will miss him. Next year will be the last of his calves. In this sale offering there are quite a few bulls sired by him and they will all be calving ease bulls. If you’re looking for that heifer bull that is going to be easy on your calving program then these are your bulls. Really good heifer bulls are sometimes hard to find. These fit the bill.

WULF’S ZERO TURN Zero Turn was used primarily as a backup bull this year, so he did not see many cows. It is great to have a backup with his quality in the bull pen. We only have two bulls this year from him in the sale and they are very good bulls. On the right cows this bull works very well. Due to an injury his time is limited here at the ranch, so you won’t be seeing very many offspring in the future. He sires cattle with exceptional feet and leg structure and lots of muscle. DMM STACHE 14C Stache is a herd sire that brings a lot to the plate at Diamond C Ranch. He is one of the heaviest muscled Angus bulls you will ever see. In fact, if we didn’t tell people most would believe that he was a Limousin bull. He sires quiet, performance and absolutely fantastic females. We have females milking now and they are very hard to flaw. Picture perfect udders, deep bodied and very correct. The bulls in the offering have a ton of performance and are not recommended for heifers. They will give you great females and give you added grow on your steers that the industry is going to love. Diamond C Ranch LIMO x CHAROLAIS

As a seed stock producer it is always exciting to travel out to the pastures and watch the calves develop, however, it is a sinking feeling when you see a Charolais bull walking with your cows from a neighboring pasture. We are fortunate this has not happened at our ranch before; until now. Out of that oopsie came these two powerful herd sires. I guess it is still in my commercial roots; I just can’t pass putting quality bulls in our sale. I am an advocate that there is good in all the breeds. As we have always stated it is amazing what this Limousin breed can do crossing with other breeds. I guess that is proven in this instance as you can see how well Limousin crosses with Angus and now how well this breed crosses with Charolais. Some of our customers use this cross all of the time and say it is the best cross going. So this is a different twist to our sale and you won’t see this regularly at this ranch. But here on offer is two very powerful bulls from very powerful Limousin cows.

GREENWOOD DOUBLE DOWN We brought this bull into our program because of his great depth of body and softness. We were hoping these were qualities that would enhance our program. For the most part he did just that. The other reason we chose him was because he came from a really good dam, Wisteria Lane. So we were highly anticipating great females. His calves are deep bodied, loose and are carrying great muscle and lots of hair coat. In fact, he throws second to none hair coats! So far we are happy with his calves, although his cull rate is a little higher than we are used to because of temperament. However, we are very hard on our bulls and females. If they have made the sale then their temperament is good. We are excited about the bulls in the offering and for sure there are some that are absolute head turners and standouts. If you’re looking for that next herd bull to take your program to the next level then be sure to check these bulls out before you make your decision. We know you will be impressed.

I have worked with Neil and Sherry at Diamond C Ranch for many years and I have always found them to be extremely dedicated and conscientious managers. Their animal care and attention to detail is second to none and they are always seeking ways to improve their program. I have been consistently impressed by the quality of the Diamond C animals and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Sincerely, Dr. Kelly Loree DVM
