MARCH 16, 2026 • ON THE FARM • HODGEVILLE, SK
STARTING AT 1:30 PM
Welcome to the Cedarlea Farms 2026 Bull Sale!
We are very happy to extend a warm and sincere invitation to join us March 16th for our annual bull sale! We certainly appreciate your attendance and interest in our sale.
It’s a wonderful time to be a cow/calf producer with all time record highs for feeder and fat cattle. We’ve waited many years for this, and it definitely is our turn! The North American cowherd is at a 75-year low; cattle supplies are tight and are likely to stay that way for the next few years with limited herd expansion if any for the foreseeable future. Charolais bulls are once again in very strong demand as the Char-cross calves are the preferred feeder calves topping the market across Canada.
What a tremendous set of bulls we have on offer this year! We’re very happy with the next step forward and this new generation of bulls. They represent the balanced approach we’ve taken to provide a combination of useful and beneficial traits: calving ability without sacrificing growth and performance has been our objective. Providing bulls that are physically sound and correct is a priority, management plays a significant role as well. Sensible feeding plus providing the “whole herd’ approach to health and nutrition is our philosophy. This approach allows us to develop bulls to meet the market demands of today and provide bulls that last for years. At Cedarlea Farms we use data and testing as tools to make better genetic decisions. Measuring accurate birth, weaning and yearling weights, gestation length, genomic testing, collecting ultrasound data all provide valuable information to make informed breeding decisions. Checkout the ribeye area measurement on the bulls… exceptional results! There are 40 bulls with a ribeye area greater than 15 square inches, many over 16 sq in and a few over 17 sq in! The pen average for lean meat yield came in at 65.39%!
We stand behind our bulls and will ensure they work for you. We strive to produce top quality bulls and provide top quality service for our customers. Thank you to all our customers and friends for your continued support and we look forward to working with you again this year.
We have added two features to the sale this year:
1. We have contemplated adding some of our best ranch/riding horses for several years and finally are able to this year. Two solid geldings that are bred to be durable, athletic, good-minded and ready to go whichever way you want. Please check them out, you’ll be happy you did!
2. We are happy to have our good friends, neighbours and customers Stolson Farms – Roger/Susan, Ryan/Angèle and Brett/Kayla consigning 20 top-notch buckskin open replacement heifers. These are right off the top of their Char x Simmental F1 cross heifer pen, if you are needing replacements these will flat-out work! They are worth the drive to check them out!
Please join us for lunch and refreshments prior to the sale and stay for some fine hospitality after! Feel free to stop by anytime for a coffee prior to the sale to have a look at the geldings, bulls and heifers or call anytime, we would love to talk about this year’s bull pen with you. We certainly appreciate your interest in our genetics and welcome your attendance on March 16th!
It’s a great time to be in the cattle business and a great time to use a Charolais bull!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Cedarlea Farms Charolais Bull Sale.
We have had the opportunity to work with the Cedarlea program over the past several years in marketing their females, and through that process we’ve come to know the phenomenal cow herd behind this offering. That foundation is clearly reflected in this year’s pen of bulls. Without question, this is the most powerful, consistent, and uniform set of bulls Cedarlea has ever brought to the ring.
The numbers back it up. Ultrasound data confirms what your eye will already tell you — these bulls carry big ribeyes and exceptional lean meat yield, the very traits that have made Charolais-sired steers kings of the feedlot. Cedarlea has always combined a sharp stockman’s eye with today’s best technology, using EPDs, ultrasound data, and performance records to validate the genetic merit of their cattle. The result is a set of bulls with moderate birth weights, strong performance, and stout, sound, hairy structure — a true total package for the commercial cattleman.
This year’s sale offering also includes two outstanding ranch geldings. Lori and Kylie are well known across Canada for producing top-quality Quarter Horses, and this is a rare opportunity to purchase two good using geldings from their elite program. In addition, buyers will find a select group of fancy open commercial heifers that deserve a close look.
Plan to come early. This deep set of bulls will take some time to evaluate, as the options are abundant. Take time to view the heifers, watch the horses work in the arena, and enjoy excellent hospitality and lunch before sale time. As always if you need any assistance do not hesitate to contact any of us on the T Bar team as it is our pleasure to assist you in a professional and confidential manner. See you at Hodgeville!

Ultrasound data is a low cost and highly effective method to obtain information on carcass merit of breeding stock. Ultrasound on young seedstock is highly related to carcass characteristics of their progeny. Ultrasound enables producers to know carcass traits such as marbling, rib eye area and backfat thickness. Data is accepted for development of Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). In herd ranking of animals can be a valuable tool in selecting future breeding stock and replacement heifers Carcass traits measured by ultrasound are moderately to highly heritable, therefore, improvements in herd genetics can be made in a relatively short period of time. With quality management, an elite herd can be developed and marketed to other sectors of the industry for top dollar. Ultrasound data is a valuable genetic tool and selecting for carcass traits is important for making improvements. As always, it’s to be used in concert with all other selection tools and visual appraisal.
Ribeye Area (REA) – an area measurement of the loin or ribeye muscle reported in square inches and is a highly heritable trait.
Back Fat/Rib Fat – a measurement of fat cover in inches. It is the main trait that affects percen lean meat yield.
Intramuscular Fat (%IMF) Marbling – a measurement of the amount of fat within the muscle (marbling) which also is highly heritable.
LMY – Lean meat yield percentage is the proportion of meat recovered from a carcass - a key driver of profitability
Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) aren’t just for seedstock cattle producers. They comprise a useful tool that you should use every time you buy a bull for your commercial cow herd. EPDs allow for the comparison of animals within a breed for their genetic potential as parents for a given trait. EPDs have existed in the beef industry for decades and their use has produced intended genetic change in many traits. However, some producers are still reluctant to rely on EPDs when making selection decisions; presumably because of a general lack of understanding of how EPDs are derived and their interpretation. EPDs are the expected differences in performance and carcass quality of an animal’s sons or daughters. Commercial cows do not have known EPDs, but that shouldn’t prevent producers from using EPDs effectively, after all sire selection affects half the genetics of your calves. Evaluating what your records tell you is needed to complement the maternal base.
Calving Ease Direct (CE) - is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births in first calf heifers. A higher value indicates greater calving ease. It predicts the average difference in unassisted births with which a sire’s calves will be born when bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight EPD (BW) - The expected difference in average birth weight (pounds) of progeny. Birth weight reflects prenatal growth.
Weaning Weight EPD (WW) - The expected difference in average weaning weight of calves. The evaluation reflects the genetic influence on pre-weaning growth rate.
Yearling Weight EPD (YW) - The expected difference in average yearling weight of progeny. The evaluation reflects genetic influence on both pre-weaning and post-weaning growth rate.
Maternal Milk EPD (M) - The genetic ability of a sire’s or dam’s daughters to express in pounds of weaning weight in her calves due to her maternal ability through mothering instinct and milk.
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE) - this predicts the ease with which a daughter of that sire will give birth. A larger number indicates easier calving (less assistance).
Total Maternal EPD (TM) - A value to predict the weaning weight performance of calves from an animal’s daughters due to genetics for growth and maternal ability. Total Maternal is calculated by adding ½ the WW EPD to the Maternal Milk EPD.
Terminal Sire Index (TSI) - utilizes economic and management descriptions of the breeder’s operation, along with EPD on available Charolais bulls.

A topnotch work ethic wrapped up in Cadillac style, this is the gelding you can’t wait to take to town, and are excited to be mounted on for a long day. Gunner is a smooth traveling, big hearted guy with personality plus, he was professionally started and spent 6 months total with John and Jamie Tilley of Tilley’s Custom Colts, and has since been used on the community pasture and feedlot by Zoe & Brandon Maxwell. He has been used to start a handful of colts, a steady friend for them to lean on and a helping hand for his rider when they need their mount to read and react to the job needing done. While he is forward on cattle, Gunner has proven to be strong and capable when dallied off on, and has a good foundation of rope work. Soft in the face and sides, he rides around broke at the wither and soft in the ribcage just waiting for you to say woah. Sidepass, counter arcs, spins, he neck reins and rides off your leg the way you want one to. Great to catch, tie, handle, good with his feet (trims and shoes), he’s quiet in the barn and loads and hauls easily. What he’s missing in chrome or roan, Gunner makes up for in usability, heart, and that beautiful shine you can only get on a deep sorrel.

CEDARLEA WAR PAINT - 2021 AQHA GELDING, 14.3HH
The Peptos Boon Shine sons need very little introduction, if you’ve been around one then you already know what kind of gelding Walker is. Kind hearted, sensitive, extremely intelligent, this is the gelding you want under you to cover your big circle. He’s got no quit in the best kind of way, if there’s more work to be done Walker is right there with you. He was professionally started by and spent 6 months with John and Jamie Tilley of Tilley’s Custom Colts, and has since lived the community pasture experience with Zoe & Brandon Maxwell, being used for everything from take in to take out. This is the gelding you catch at 5am before the sun comes up, bail on fresh out of the trailer, and hit a long trot over the hills to gather pairs. If you don’t make it back to the trailer before supper, you won’t be hearing any complaints out of Walker. He is alert and attentive on cattle, confident enough to use his body to push and block when asked but sensitive enough to keep himself in the right spot. Extremely light sided, Walker has a lovely two track, sidepass, counter arc, handy turn around, solid stop, and soft back up. He is forward moving and likes to travel, and is ready to be taken to the next step in the roping pen. Walker is good to trim and shoe, gentle in a herd, loads and hauls quietly, and is easy to handle.

The heifers have been on a full herd health program right from birth on. They will be palpated prior to selling. They are all sired by Cedarlea bulls that were selected for calving ease and maternal traits. The tan/buckskin heifers will be moderately framed and develop into long, deep bodied maternal powerhouses with a heavy hair coat. The dams of these open replacements were all sired by bulls purchased from some of the leading Simmental breeders in Western Canada: Crossroad Farms, Labatte’s Simmentals, Rendezvous Farms and Wheatland Cattle Company.
