It is with pleasure that we welcome you to our 21st annual on farm bull & female sale. We would first like to thank everyone who has supported our special event. Over the years we have made many good friends through this sale, and for that we are very thankful. It is with much anticipation that we present this years offering. They are perhaps the most uniform group ever. We offer some new sire lines that have exceeded our own expectations. Our goal is to offer bulls that excel in muscle & performance while still keeping birth weights in check. Angus bulls are noted for early maturity and excellent breeders. Our offering is a cross section of the powerful set of walking herd sires in use. We are firm believers your best animals should be from your walking bulls. It is the only way to build consistency. The females offered are a representation of the strong cow families established here. Our philosophy on producing females is structured around what has made the “Angus cow� the most desirable mother cow around. Exceptional feet & udder structure, females that can forage and convert, mothering ability and disposition along with longevity. All of these qualities rate very high with us. We are very proud of this offering, and believe all these females exude these traits. We would like to thank everyone who helped put this special event on. Wade, along with his college buddies Huxley & Ryker Berting did an exceptional job preparing the bulls for pictures, and did this under some less than ideal weather conditions. This year’s bull pen is one to take note of: the uniformity, muscle, shape, good footed and docility make a trip to Crescent Creek one to make this year. These bulls are packed full of meat and stride so easily in the pens. The females on offer are again from cow families that are proven at the farm. They are the type to become front pasture females and take your program up a few notches. For all of you who have been thru the cow herd understand what these open heifers can do for you.

At a modest $2/lb you realize an extra $5400. If you have been paying $4000 for your bulls, this added revenue would allow you to pay an extra $4000-$5000 per bull. As well extra benefits from adequate bull power will mean less open cows, a tighter calving season and more uniformity – these all reflect in higher premiums. EPDS ARE UPDATED FREQUENTLY BY THE ASSOCIATION AND ARE CURRENT AS OF FEBRUARY 14, 2019
What do the numbers mean? For most commercial cattlemen, there are really only four EPDs they need to look at: birth weight (BW); weaning weight (WW); yearling weight (YW); and milk. The others, with perhaps the exception of the carcass traits, are more useful for purbred breeders.
Birth Weight - Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny differnce is reported in pounds. The larger the EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight
Weaning Weight - Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by that bull.
Yearling Weight - Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted 365 days of age and a mature dam equivelant.

Feeding Program Our philosophy is to make these young bulls last as long as they can. As we talk to our customer base we think it is working. Many herd bulls lasting multiple years for their owners. We never feed to compromise breeding or structural soundness. As in the past the bulls are hand fed brown oat and protein pellet ration with free choice hay. We strive for a three pound a day gain, and the bulls are fed with this in mind. The bull calves were weaned mid September as pastures were short. The females were weaned the first week in October and put out on swath grazing until December 1, at which time they were switched to a brown oat and pellet ration. It is amazing how well these young females did on the swaths.
Herd Health
The vaccination program consisted of Express 5 and blackleg shots. All breeding females & bulls will have had their pre-breeding Express 5 vaccine and blackleg booster prior to the sale. The cattle have had plenty of exercise in large pens, and are very free moving.

Milk - The milk EPD is a predictor of a sires genetic merit for milk as expressed in his daughters, or in other words the part of weaning weight attributed to milk genes. The larger EPD indicates heavier average weaning weight due to daughters greater maternal ability.

His bull calves excel in muscle structure and excellent feet and Females 76 lbs 622 lbs 865 lbs legs. His first milking daughters prove his ability to sire moderate females with beautiful udder structure and mothering ability. His combination of old proven genetics, along with being an outcross to our herd, bode well for a long time breeding bull on our farm. Just like his pen mate and half-brother, this Outside calf is another herd bull in the making. Stamped with the consistency of his sire: big muscle, good footed, long, and mobility like many other of his calves. 7F stirred up a lot of interest this fall out at agribition. Many old friends and customers as well as new contacts and friends commented on how well put together and smooth he was. Many people also commented on his testicle size and how free moving he was in the ring. Out of a Soo Line best interest cow that has again really made a name for herself in our herd. We could go on and on about this bull, but we feel it’s just best if you come out and see the bull for yourself, and see why we are very high on this bull. In his first calf crop he had sale features in all 3 places. It is a true testament of greatness, for any bull. Again this year he has a sale feature here. Judging by his 2019 calf crop, we will make sure to turn him out early this breeding season, to ensure we get as many calves off him as possible. An interesting bull when it comes to pedigree. He is sired by 188R who is a direct son from the well known Rosebud 115F with an outcross Super X son sire. 188R was the high selling bull at $25,000 for ½ interest to Johnson Angus. When a bull pictures at 7 years of age with herd bull character like 105A does, you have to be happy. Coupled with the outstanding breeding job he has done at our place and Benlock farms, you have to be very happy. Entrepreneur 105A was too hard to say, so he became known as “Cucumber”. As the hype of the spring bull sale season approaches, we are no different than other seedstock producers. We try to put our best foot forward and present outstanding young herd bull prospects. More recently though, we have been very focused on presenting to you what we think are the backbones of many very successful operations. That, of course, is the mother cow. Year after year our heifer selection has been improving to the point that we are truly holding nothing back. We feel very fortunate in the fact that this selection is due to the many years of breeding sound Angus females with traits that make the breed so popular. Last fall as we drove out and checked these young females as they chewed away on swaths, you had to be impressed at how well they adapted. I called them my little cow herd. This was a true test of feed conversion. As you study the offering you can see it didn’t hurt their development at all.
Our 2018 sale represented some of the best value on open replacement females ever. Some very astute cattlemen saw their value and took them home in multiples. Remember 60% down sale day, 40% October 1, 2019. Value like that is hard to match! Footnotes will be few. The offering speaks for itself.

With the second set of milking daughters in production it is easy to see how impressively 3589a has established himself as a cornerstone herd sire. His sons again are some of the tops in the pen. His acceptance by commercial bull buyers makes us think he is the right kind. He is perhaps the easiest fleshing bull we have used. Unfortunately we have lost the bull to a breeding injury, but a tank full of semen and a very exciting son will make sure his influence continues. Be sure to check out the excellent set of heifers.
We start the heifer offering with one of the most complete females we have ever offered. This young female is moderate in size, with ample capacity and the famous Angus look. The Memento daughters are very hard to part with as we see how they have grown into very productive females. Last summer we offered the pick of the 2018 heifer calves at the 7th Canadian Angus Foundation “Building the Legacy” sale in Comox, BC. When the gavel dropped, the pick sold for a record $17,000 to the famed partnership of Robbi Geis and Jim Round (JR Investments). A fellow breeder texted me and said, “What is the second pick worth?”. When the final pick was made they chose an excellent Alternative 516 daughter out of our coveted Joan family. When we purchased 1136 from McCumber Angus he was selected solely on the production of his mother and her type. The end result was a band of females that look and produce like their paternal grandmother, and we could not be happier. When we lost 1136 to an untimely death the pressure to replace him mounted. Luckily we retained an interest in a very young herd sire, 105A. Again on the strength of his mother and cow family. It has been stated “you just can’t get enough of them”.
