Welcome to our 19th Annual Sale. As you study the sale book, we trust you will find your next herd bull or replacement female needs. We believe this offering to be very exciting. 18 sales have passed and we never lose our enthusiasm over the newest sale offering. We value your selection and comments, and thank you for considering our program. The selection and building of this program has always kept in mind strong beef industry traits. Females require strong maternal traits, soundness of feet and legs, and longevity. Bulls have to be easy fleshing, with extra muscle and performance. We never follow “FADS� for pedigrees. The result is a program that could be considered an alternative for different genetics. The bulls are beef bulls, never pampered or pushed. The females represent the cow families that have carried this program for almost 65 years of seed stock production. Plan to attend April 1, 2017 and enjoy yourselves. What do the numbers mean?
For most commercial cattlemen, there are really only four EPDs they need to look at: birth weight (BW); weaning weight (WW); yearling weight (YW); and milk. The others, with perhaps the exception of the carcass traits, are more useful for purbred breeders.
BIRTH WEIGHT - Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny differnce is reported in pounds. The larger the EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight
WEANING WEIGHT - Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by that bull.
YEARLING WEIGHT - Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted 365 days of age and a mature dam equivelant. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average yearling weight for calves sired by that bull
MILK - The milk EPD is a predictor of a sires genetic merit for milk as expressed in his daughters, or in other words the part of weaning weight attributed to milk genes. The larger EPD indicates heavier average weaning weight due to daughters greater maternal ability.

Feeding Program
As in past years, our bulls have been grown out and never “pushed�. We appreciate the fact these young bulls have to last year after year at your place. The bulls were hand fed a bull ration consisting of high levels of protein and no barley. They were fed to achieve an average daily gain of 3 pounds. Free choice brome hay was also fed. The females were bale grazing from October 15 to December 1st with no added grain or pellets. They were then fed a rolled oat ration to achieve approximately 2lbs per day rate of gain.

Herd Health
The vaccination program consisted of Express 5 and blackleg shots. All breeding females & bulls will have had their pre-breeding Express 5 vaccine and blackleg booster prior to the sale. The cattle have had plenty of exercise in large pens, and are very free moving.

As stated before, it is with much excitement we present this sire group. “3589” has surpassed all of our expectations. 15 sons presented to you with only 2 younger bulls not on offer. Every bull born was good enough to make the cut! This sire offers new outcross genetics to our repeat customer base. These genetics have worked well for us in our program and we believe they will work for you as well. For others who would like to step out of the current “genetic box”, here is an excellent offering backed by a cow herd considered to be bred different. Most important though is the bull! He has excellent feet and legs, extra capacity, and is the easiest fleshing bull we have ever used. The bull’s fertility is remarkable. Between Crescent Creek and Chapman Angus, the bull bred 130 females in 40 and 45 day breeding periods. 80% of our calves came in 19 days. Talk to any cow/calf producer and they will agree fertility is the single most important economic trait. This sire group is exciting!

It is always interesting how you arrive at the decision as to who will be Lot 1. The first four bulls in this sire group could easily start this offering. The people who care for and feed the bulls every day talked about 134D nearly every coffee break. The bull sets himself apart by his character and herd bull presence. Excellent feet and legs, lots of thickness, and a great hair coat to add to the package. This fellow offers a true genetic alternative. His “Dynasty” dam has perhaps the best udder attachment of any cow here. The” Dinter Pride” cow family is known in the breed for producing herd bulls. 134D fits the mold.

95D is very similar to the Lot 1 bull. Again he has a lot of meat and muscle with plenty of “Angus” character. His mother is one of the very good “2999” grand daughters in the herd. The Memento sons all have excellent feet and leg structure. Herd bull material here!
Here is another stout “3589” son who possesses a little more length than most. Some of the coffee gang think he could be lot 1. No argument here! His dam is one of the best Pacesetter 16U daughters we have. When you examine this sire group you will come to appreciate the consistency in the bulls. This fellow could make a difference in many programs.

Welcome to the female division of our sale. The Crescent Creek program has always been built on the strength of the brood cow herd. Sire selection was always based on how the results would influence our cow herd. It was once pointed out that “herd sires come and go but the cow herd remains forever “.
