Welcome to the 2018 edition of Take the Next Step Sale September 8, 2018…as I begin to write my forward for the 15th Edition of The Take the Next Step Sale...the Saskatchewan Roughriders have just beat the Blue Bombers in back to back games...oh how sweet it is!

With that out of the way let’s get into it. Our world leaders, Putin and Kim Jong-un seem to have settled down but don’t worry lost boy Trudeau is making up for it. NAFTA is threatening to be derailed. Boy wonder purchased a pipeline with our tax dollars.

The court system shut down the same pipeline. What a mess this country is in, but agriculture forges ahead, whether through drought, floods or fire, we continue to feed the world. Those of us in the beef industry love what we do and we weather it all.

Once again, C&T, McCoy, KLR, Twin View and Phantom Creek have dug deep into the heart of their replacement pens Saskatchewan Hereford Association: and brought out the best. 40 bred heifers, 2 young cows, Stephen Myer, President 14 strapping, shiny heifer calves. Here at C&T, we take Vivian Jones, Secretary a little time to follow the Riders each week. As of today we are in second place and pushing for first. I know the mighty Calgary Stampeders are worried. My prediction two years ago was Grey Cup 2018 and I’m holding firm to that.

Three events that you need to try and take in this fall…the run of sales in the Hereford Sweep “Steaks” in southeast Saskatchewan in October, a Roughrider game in new Mosaic Stadium and the National Hereford Show in the new ITC Center at Agribition in late November.

The evening of October 20th marks the fifteenth anniversary of “Take the Next Step” Female Sale hosted by Chris, Tina and the boys at C & T. It is also an important day in that we take on the Stampeders in a very pivotal game.

With the “Swami” busily tied up in his volunteerism (Agribition, et al), Tina has been getting more “reps” everyday. It’s going to be a “green and white” year!

Over the past fifteen years, this sale has grown in numbers, quality and repeat customers. The diversity in genetics and phenotypes offers opportunities for all types of programs and budgets. No doubt, some of the sale offering has kept the youth and Bonanza in mind when selections were made, as all these dedicated breeders are supporters of the CJHA. The bred females continue to be a highlight as many in the past have gone on and make their individual marks. Many carry early services enabling successful purchasers an opportunity to “pay for mama” with the first calf.

Each breeding unit involved in this event has a unique operation, different programs but one common goal…to produce and supply quality seedstock for the livestock industry. Never has the time been greater for a predictable cowherd. As the Polled Hereford bull market becomes more demanding, the need for uniformity will be crucial to maintain and retain market share.

This granddaughter is sired by High Tech and we expect his offspring to do great things. Dahlia is one of only three heifers we selected for the sale bred to our Remitall bull, so you should get in running.

I have loved this heifer from day one and I’m not sure how she got to be in the sale except there was some muttering about he doesn’t get to keep all his good ones so I should rethink my position...eye roll...fine! Productivity and longevity will not be a problem!

Where to start on Charlie...Chris’ love...the one he was never selling because we have never kept a daughter from her awesome P606 momma. We did manage to hang on to 38X’s Start Me Up son, TL 11D, or Doubles as he’s called! His calves are everything we had hoped for. Charlie is big, deep, roomy, and speckle faced. Maternal sisters have sold to Medonte and Casey VanKessel. A son, CowMaker 51C, sold to Ryan Irwin and he is loving those calves. Currently 38X is raising a strapping, Action bull calf that I am sure you will see more of. Medonte has progeny of 38X selling as Lot 15 in the Autumn Alliance Sale. There is no doubt that Action and P606 have made a great female in Charlie. She will be a fabulous brood cow. Imagine when she drops an udder and that Zircon calf she’s carrying hits the ground!! C&T retains the right to a flush at buyers convienience.

I wanted to show you what the udders on the Stroker females are like as we have a number of his daughters in the sale. 83B shows it all...not big in frame but wide topped, lots of rib and deep barreled, yet maintaining femininity with a super easy doing and even tempered manner. The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Certificate of Registration

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Hereford Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Guarantee

Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold.

All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Hereford Association with regards to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Pregnancy Information All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.

Liabilities

All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken must be between the buyer and the seller.

T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.

Delivery

Assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Phone, Mail, Wire Bids

Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Insurance We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

Export All costs incurred with exporting cattle to the United States will be the responsibility of the buyer and will be charged at cost.
