From the Desk at T Bar…

Welcome to the “Best of the Breeds” Annual Bull Sale, Sunday March 27, 2022, at Heartland Livestock Services, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. This is their 18th anniversary … and “wow” these breeders are getting serious about producing breeder bulls! In the Gelbvieh division, Blair and Lorie have been the source of breeder bulls and ranchers alike for the past decade. Their lineup for 2022 is impressive… homo polled and homo good! Bulls with muscle and hair, and still come with calving ease and performance John at Black Ridge will tell you despite the hot weather and drought, this might be the best set of bull to date. They feature the sons of Lewis 389G and his son Riot. Strong maternally, they will add pounds at weaning while producing daughters that will fill your replacement needs. The boys, at Twin Heritage have become an official supplier of Red Angus for both the rancher and the purebred breeder. No doubt the sons of Detour will be a feature but check out the low-birth-weight opportunities available sale day. Charolais influence founded this event 18 years ago and in 2022 Dogpatch and Harcourt’s have outdone themselves. Many are homo polled, several breeder bull opportunities abound. Whether you are looking for an exciting yearling or a cover-the-cows two-year-old, selection is genetically diverse. Bulls with depth, muscle, hair… pounds of calf at weaning is commonplace using Charolais bulls. Lyle and Ken have come loaded with an outstanding consignment. With power and genetic opportunity, Forden Fairview Farm offers the largest lineup of homo polled fullbloods to sell in addition to the selected purebreds. Breeders pay attention to this powerful offering. Feel free to visit any of these progressive breeding operations prior to the sale or give them a call… they love to visit cattle. The bulls will be available for viewing at the sale barn the day prior. Plan to be with us at the “Best of the Breeds” for your breeding requirements whether it be with us in person, online or on the phone. We have graded the entire offering so feel free to give any of the T Bar C Team a call and we will be pleased to assist you in a professional and confidential manner with your selections. - Chris Poley

Black Ridge Angus

Well as I write this and reflect on the past year, drought is the most challenging obstacle the cattle industry is dealing with at this time. We were fortunate that our pastures lasted as long as they did and we did get some feed but the cost is high. We did some heavy culling of cows and calves so the bull pen is a little smaller this year. The bulls are a very solid consistent pen, I think one can appreciate their performance on drought pastures and no creep feed. We also left them out in the pasture longer as the feed situation at home was very slim. The bulls were developed similar to last few sets of bulls, whole oats mixed, mineral tubs and hay, due to shortage of silage they are mostly hay as we are stretching the silage for the cows. They have been gaining very well on feed and we feel they are in excellent shape to go out and breed. Please feel free to call or stop by at anytime. Please also check out our facebook page for pictures, videos and updates. John and Bonnie Moleski 306-331-7787 Steve and Violet Moleski 306-432-4417

“Raising Registered Angus Since 1957”

We purchased Bravo, the lead off high selling Black Angus bull from Lewis Farms in their 2020 Bull Sale. Before they sold him, Lewis Farms drew semen and used him in their own herd. He has a great spread of an 80lb birth weight to 1537lb yearling weight and is in the top 10% of the breed for growth. He is hairy, stout, moderate but exceptionally thick with large testicles and he has passed that down to his calves.

Reference Sire

LFE BA Lewis 389G

A very attractive solid bull full of red meat. His dam has a beautiful tidy udder with small teats, and she herself is a very easy doing deep bodied cow. He will be moderate in frame but he does not lack in performance, a real herdsire in the making. Weaned off at 890lbs in the beginning of October.

This bull is probably one of the deepest ribbed belly bulls in the pen and he gets that from his mother’s sire. The Bullseye bull was probably one of the deepest bulls we have ever owned. Dam of this guy is a no miss cow, we have retained her first daughter and she was the first heifer to calve this year. This guy is just flat out good.

A cracker of a calf off of a first calf heifer, can’t complain when a first calver weans off calves like this. These Bravo sons are peas in a pod, moderate long, thick hairy with big testicles. Dam is Canadian pedigree, she is a very nice moderate hairy female with a beautiful udder and comes from a good cow family.

We used Bravo in the heifer pen, and we are very happy with the quality of calves he left us, the heifers we retained are just as good as the bulls. This guy started out at 80lbs, has excellent hair, long and moderate frame, and full of red meat too! His dam comes from a old cow family here at the farm.

25 DMM MAXIMUS 18G Sons At the 2019 Canadian Western Agribition, we seen Miller’s Maximus bull calf and thought he was the kind to use. So we purchased some semen and we now have some of the first calves to sell of his. Maximus has since won many shows, including the Supreme Challenge over all breeds this past year at Agribition and is the Show bull of the year. DMM MAXIMUS 18G

This bull is just a solid hard muscled bull, very masculine and well balanced from nose to tail. His mom is a standout in the herd, 5J is her 11th natural calf and she is not showing signs of slowing down. We have sold a few bulls and have some daughters in the herd as well. Longevity and consistency built in. This bull is in the top 10% for weaning weight and 15% for yearling weight of the Angus breed. You will find him for sure on sale day.

I really like this bull, just an excellent balanced bull, he has that nice angus character. His dam has calved in a 10-day window on her first 4 calves, and she raises a big calf every year and keeps her condition. Her right time heifer from last year is one of the top bred heifers.

BLACK RIDGE RIOT 26D SONS These next bulls are all sired by our home raised herd sire. He was one of the best performing bulls we had ever raised, he is exceptionally thick, deep with a smooth shoulder and fine refined angus head and character, and exceptional scrotal. His personal performance was 842lbs adj WW and 1480lb actual YW. His calves are some of the top performers in the pen this year, and are John’s “favorite type of cattle”. Easy doing, deep sided, hairy, and muscular.

Solid bull, very hairy, correct and well balanced with a nice birthweight. Reminds me of the 22J bull above, similar in type. This guy really pounded down the scales this fall as well being one of the heavier bulls. The dams track record is incredible, selling calves to DKF, Lana Graham x 2, Triple J Farms, Randy Zaremba and Popadynec. Homework all done on this bull.

32 BJ’s RIGHT TIME 813 SONS A couple years ago we had the opportunity to purchase an Embryo calf out of the immortal Right Time and a Merit dam. It was an excellent combination of genetics and we jumped at it. We bought him to produce those females that are the backbone of a herd. We are looking forward to superior footed, fertile and beautiful uddered females. The bull calves we got are a bonus! They are very true to angus character, have excellent bone and foot structure, moderate in frame and well muscled.
