From the desk at T Bar… Welcome to the 15th Annual “Best Of The Breeds” Bull Sale on Sunday, March 24th, at Heartland Livestock, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Started by Merv and Barb Schmidt, Belmont Charolais, in the early years it was the “best kept secret” but over the past several years the secret is out! Top quality bulls from these six breeders have been selected by breeders and ranchers in the prairie provinces, also to Ontario, Quebec, B.C., Nova Scotia and the United States. Several of these bulls have gone on to be “top shelf” sires. “Best of the Breeds” has become a “one-stop” shopping event where producers can select bulls to complete breeding intentions. The continental influence with performance comes through the Simmental (red, black and Fleck), the Gelbvieh and Charolais, while the Angus division, both red and black offer performance with a degree of calving ease and high maternal values which become replacements to the national beef herd. The criteria to have bulls in the sale is based on quality, where no bulls are selected from the individual herds, therefore the best of the best sells here…that is why, in some years, breeders have less bulls. It’s the assurance of quality! The bulls will be available for viewing the night before at Heartland and for those looking for a preview, visit the respective farms or ranches where you can see the bulls in their natural environment and their mothers. Do not hesitate to give any of these foremost breeders a call to discuss the offering and bulls that they would suggest for your breeding intentions. Come early sale day, view the bulls and be guests for the famous perogy and sausage luncheon complete with hot and cold coffee. If we, at T Bar C, may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, please contact any of the T Bar team and we will be pleased to offer our professional services.

Ben Wright 519-374-3335

Welcome to the 15th Annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. After such a crazy year it is comforting to know that there is something you can count on; getting a top quality Charolais bull from our program that will produce calves that are born easily and will grow into the type of feeders that buyers will fight over. Our main focus is producing live calves that are born easily, perform well and have an abundance of hair and red meat. Our goal is improving your bottom line! This year we have bulls from some new AI sires that we are very pleased with. JWX Downtown and WC Milestone produce calves with a lot of performance and a little extra frame, resulting in a little higher birth weight, but posed no calving issues. Cedardale Zeal and MVY All Star are proven calving ease sires that can work in either the heifer pen or cow herd. We are excited to have a new calving ease sire, WC Big Ben, that will work great in a heifer pen. We have a great mix of bulls that will fit every program. We have some calving ease bulls, as well as some performance bulls that will put some punch in your cow herd. As an added bonus we keep back some younger bulls in reserve for our customers. If you have a wreck, we will be there with a replacement bull to help you out. We would like to say THANK YOU again to all our past bidders, new buyers and our many repeat buyers. You are invited to stop by and see the bulls and their mothers anytime or call if you have any questions.

Herd bull prospect. Well she did it again, 927W knocked it out of the park with this year’s calf. Last year she produced an $11,000 junior herd sire for HEJ Charolais and this calf is another standout. Paired with one of the newest and hottest AI sires in the breed, WC Milestone 5223, this outstanding calf has herd bull written all over him. A deep sided bull packing a ton of red meat through his top, middle and rear. With a November weight over 1200 lbs., you know you are getting some amazing performance from this young gun. A nice smooth polled head and great disposition sets the stage for this young star to shine. Backed by a solid pedigree and an exceptional mother, here is your opportunity to be the first to walk a Milestone bull. We believe in this bull’s future and are keeping a 1/3 semen interest in him. LEPTIN CT. HOMO POLLED. RETAINING 1/3 SEMEN INTEREST

New genetics. Here is a great opportunity to step into some of the newest genetics in the industry. Excellent birth and weaning weights from a solid producing mature cow. A great mix of proven and new genetics combined to produce this smooth fronted, deep sided individual. With calving ease, great performance and longevity built into this polled pedigree, you can be confident in leading the pack for the long term. Fiat is as structurally sound as they come, so based on his parent’s history, he will be around for a long time. LEPTIN CT.

Power bull. This thick made unit has got the frame to work on the big cows and will sire those exceptionally heavy weaning weight calves come fall time. A little bigger birth weight from a mature cow, but if you can handle that, look out when his calves hit the ring. With all that hair and pay weight, you won’t be able to fit your wallet in your pocket! Easy fleshing, sound and solid as a rock. HOMO POLLED.

Here is a real tank. Downtown is an outstanding individual, eye catching in the pen and eye popping on the scale. From front to back, top to bottom, this herd sire prospect exudes red meat thickness. He comes with a nice birth weight and is deep, soggy and will produce the loose hided calves that demand premiums from the market. He has lots of volume, thickness, depth and style and the capacity to bring it all together. All that wrapped up in a luxurious fur coat. HOMO POLLED. LEPTIN CT.

Race car performance. Like the car, we specifically named this bull Firebird for his great looks and performance. A great profiling bull from every angle, but when you get in behind him, that’s when you see his thickness over the top and down his quarter. Great birth weight and growth numbers, hair and scrotal development contribute to this package. A great milking momma combined with an exceptional sire produced this top notch performer. Grab a hold of Firebird and hang on for the ride! HOMO POLLED.

He has some real eye appeal with his thick hair coat, depth through his flank and a nice square hip that follows up with a big pair of pants. Great cross. For those guys wanting to try a Charolais bull, Fieldgoal is a great choice especially for an Angus based herd. A choice birth weight and ample growth puts some punch into the calves and ultimately, pounds on the scale. The Angus cows will poll all the calves and the Char-cross will add the extra pounds and extra premiums paid for your calf crop. He is built right to work on any herd. We are confident that if you aren’t already hooked on Charolais, Fieldgoal will win you over.

Dogpatch Focus 64F 23Y did a hell of a job raising twins! Focus started off a few pounds heavier than his brother, Focal 264F (Lot 105) and managed to stay that way throughout the year. Laid back shoulders lead into a strong flat top and spring of rib. His natural thickness flows over his top and down deep in his quarter. Sturdy legs and big feet come from back in the dam’s pedigree. A lot of shared growth in this twin. LEPTIN CT.

Double down. When you compare him and his brother, Focus 64F (Lot 104) there isn’t much difference. Focal started off a bit smaller, but kept pace with his brother the whole year. The same thickness, volume and hair coat is evident in this twin. Focal will make a terrific cross on a British based cow herd. He will add a bit of frame to the calves which will translate into extra pay weight at the market. You know there is some jam in this pedigree when you add up the total pounds his momma weaned this fall.

Longevity built in. Fanfare is a bigger framed bull with lots of stretch, but doesn’t give up thickness. He will reach the mature cows this spring and add length and pounds to your calf crop. Size-a-bull! Symbol is the type of bull that will put some stretch into your calf crop. With his long spine, small head and smooth front, Symbol’s calves will pop out easily and hit the ground growing. He has a little extra height and the thickness to go with it and will be able to reach the mature cows. Symbol is an athletic bull that moves out well and will cover a lot of ground. He will make an excellent cross on red, black or white and produce the calves buyers will sit up and notice.

10K’s full brother. It’s been a long time coming, but here is a full brother to one of our $10,000 2016 high sellers. A bull sold to Ryan Stolson at Hodgeville. Freestyle has extra length of spine and a nice big hip and a crazy amount of hair. Like his brother, he will produce the stretchy calves that are born easily and explode and those replacement females will be very milky. Popular pedigree. You know how sought after the All Star calves have been in past sales and this guy is stamped out the same way, moderate, thick and deep. All Star, like his father, exudes natural thickness, a great hair coat, docile nature and a tool box to get the job done. All Star has a nice birth weight and an amazing weaning weight equal or higher to that of calves a month or more older. Coming out of a high powered cow and a bull that has been used so successfully on heifers, you know you are getting a great combination of calving ease and polled performance. HOMO POLLED. LEPTIN CT.

Convenience traits. A negative birth weight EPD and a high calving ease EPD denotes a bull that can be turned in with the heifers and forgot about. A moderate framed bull socked full of red meat and muscle. Ferrari has a big wide top and continues that bulk and thickness throughout his square hip and quarter. A great birth weight and tremendous weaning weight from a first calf heifer, makes Ferrari a great choice on sale day. HOMO POLLED.

He is one of the deepest bulls in the pen and really presses down on the scales. Mark him in your sale day book! HOMO POLLED.

Colored option. A smooth, polled, red bull with tons of wavy red hair, volume and length. A real clean front end and a top you can shoot pool on! This is a bull that can set you up in a purebred operation or top the market with a bunch of calves that look like this. By the way, have a look at his calving ease and birth weight EPDs. Buyer Testimonials

“I have been using Dogpatch bulls since 2008. I like the calving ease and growth of the calves. The stockyards and order buyers really like the thickness and the great hair coats of the calves. The Zentners will be happy to answer any questions you have.” Colin Baber 200 cows, Balcarres, SK

“Charolais bulls were the backbone of the breeding herd 30 years ago. High birthweights and tougher calving had us move to other breeds over the years. Working with Mick and Annette at Dog Patch Acres has given us confidence to bring Charolais back to our bull pen. Calving ease, growth, good temperaments and a moderate, feed efficient frame can all come in one package. Dog Patch Acres is great to deal with and we always enjoy our cattle talks.” Marvin and Charlene Lange 220 cows, Colonsay, SK
