On behalf of our family I am pleased to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Beck McCoy Bull Sale.

As I look through both our group of bulls as well as Becks I am very satisfied with the overall quality, uniformity and our progression over the past year. I feel there is truly something for everyone in this year’s offering. We have heard from our customers that we need to develop various types of bulls for different programs and situations. I think we have moved forward on meeting these requests. We have true performance bulls focused on increased weaning weights and selling calves in the fall. We also have a good selection of true calving ease bulls that are suited for breeding heifers or fitting into herds that need more calving ease in their cow herds.

Both of our breeds are maternally focused breeds, so you can select any bulls from either the Hereford or Gelbvieh groups that are designed to produce daughters, as this is fundamental to everything we do in our operation. We select for longevity in our herd and so we also feed and develop our bulls with that goal in mind. Our bulls are designed to sire replacement females in many of your herds. These females will go out to produce in your herds on a roughage based existence. Therefore, we make sure our bulls are developed on moderate energy, high roughage diets as well.

New for 2011, we are initiating a sight unseen program based on interest that we have had from multiple customers. Please don’t hesitate to call Wade or myself about this program as no one understands our bulls better than us.

Welcome to our second annual bull sale.

It seems like yesterday that we were planning our first bull sale; time flies when you’re having fun. Thankfully some fun has returned to raising cattle.

Our breeding program is still based on producing as uniform a bull pen as possible - another uniform bull pen of great quality bulls that will work in anyone’s pasture.

Our cow herd is built around cow families that withstand whatever is thrown at them. At Beck Farms selection of herd bulls is a 24 – 7 – 365 day job. When we find a bull that meets our criteria, we buy him and use him a lot. This is evident in the large groups of ½ and ¾ brothers in the sale.

One question we were asked last year is “why a February bull sale?” The answer is still quite simple: 90% of our commercial customers calve from March 1st to May 1st. A February sale allows you to get off the farm to select your next herd bull, hopefully before your busy season. We know it’s early so we’ll look after the bull for you until you need him. Feel free to come to the farm for a cup of coffee and see the bulls for yourself before the sale, we’d be happy to show you the bull pen. We invite you to Optimum Genetics on February 26th. Welcome to the 2nd Annual Beck/McCoy Bull Sale. All of us involved in agriculture have heard the phrase, “there is always next year.” Well this is the “next year” we have been waiting to arrive for the last seven years. Cattle prices are strong, as strong as they have ever been in some classes. Many of the experts say this is only the beginning, due to the fact the North American cow herd has fallen to the lowest level in several decades. They also feel that demand will keep pace with growth, the world’s population gets larger every day and we all have to eat, most of us several times a day.

For those of you who have stuck it out in the beef business, congratulations. You are about to find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or at least be rewarded for your efforts. Because of the last seven years, you need to take full advantage of this stronger market and the easiest way to capitalize is to purchase top performing, fresh genetics. The herd sires on offer in this sale are as good as you will find and they are backed up by breeders who are as good as you will find.

The Beck Charolais program, led by Wade and Cynthia, has become one of the top sources of functional white bulls. This operation also runs a large commercial herd, on which they test their genetics to make sure they will give you what you need. Beck Charolais bulls offer optimal performance without sacrificing calving ease, hair and fleshing ability, to get you top prices. This pen of bulls is consistent in quality from top to bottom, offering herd sires for purebred and commercial breeders alike.

The McCoy program, led by Chad and Carrie, continues to offer some of the highest maternal Herefords in Canada. The Hereford program is rich with history but more importantly, is a treasure of genetics. These Hereford bulls will add bone and hair to their progeny, and more importantly, add hardiness, docility and longevity to your cow herd. The red baldy cow has always been the queen of any cross breeding program. The Gelbvieh bulls are also a valuable tool in a cross breeding program. These bulls will add some serious performance and extra muscle, giving you the pounds on the scale to make you money. Yet, they still come in a calving ease, functional package that will be low stress for you.

No matter which breed or breeds you choose, this sale offers the opportunity to select from solid groups of half brothers. Whether you need one or a trailer full, you will not be disappointed, you owe it to yourself and more importantly to your cows, to join us just south of Regina on the 26th.

Free Wintering...

All bulls will be developed free of charge until June 1, 2011. A minimal charge will be applied should bulls need to be maintained beyond June 1.

Breeding Guarantee...

We guarantee to provide a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test at 14 months of age. Any bull failing to be a satisfactory breeder will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality, or a credit given towards purchase of another bull.

He was our pick out of the 2009 A. Sparrow Farms bull sale and saw heavy service as a yearling.
