Welcome to our 13th annual bull sale. This is the time of year we look forward to with anticipation and excitement. Please accept our invitation to join us on February 23rd for our bull sale and some hospitality. We always enjoy this time spent with our customers and friends. Every year we work diligently to put forth the best set of Charolais bulls we possibly can. This year is no exception. There is a number of very unique individuals in this year’s offering. We are extremely proud of the mother cows that raise these herd bulls. All but one two year old were raised by cows that were born here and carry the backwards R B brand. These mothers are available for viewing any time whether its before the sale or on sale day. I believe the cattle industry is headed for unprecedented times. As I write this the feeder market continues to turn upward in spite of extremely high feed cost. Preliminary predictions are that this will continue throughout the year ahead. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to our 13th annual bull sale on behalf of McCoy Cattle Co. I suppose a few things have happened in the world since our 12th sale. I will start off by saying I for one have heard enough about Covid so I promise this is the last time I will use that word in this welcome. I can’t get by without talking about Mother Nature. She seems to be getting more and more difficult to get along with the past few years. We were very fortunate to get more timely moisture in 2021 than many of you so I won’t complain too much. In fact, had we had normal temperatures through the summer of 2021 Our year would have been fairly normal for South Central Sask. We did end up sending a couple liner loads of cows north for pasture this summer but all in all our year was not bad. We have managed to scrape up enough feed to get through the winter once again. Water is definitely plenty tight around here as we head for 2022 but that is not an abnormal thing around here. 2021 has definitely been a reason to cull harder than normal. We also sold a few packages of bred females in the fall to keep our numbers in check heading into 2022. As I write this welcome the amount of snow we have received is starting to add up so hopefully it continues. The cattle markets also seem quite strong with many experts talking about calves selling at close to record levels by fall of 2022. Not sure if that will happen but sure nice to know there is a strong demand for the product we all produce. The current economics of running beef cows underscores the need to have some Hereford influence in your cowherd. $9 barley and $300 hay means the necessity to manage an efficient, moderate sized cowherd with maximum maternal heterosis is more important than ever before. The goal of our breeding program has always been to breed moderate framed, easy fleshing, maternally focused cattle so we hope that puts us in a good position to help you gear your cowherd for the future. YEARLING BULLS

The yearling bulls in this year’s sale spent the summer on native and tame pastures. Creep feed is put out in middle of August as an aid to help with the weaning process. They were weaned on September 27th and put on a forage based TMR. As in the past, none of the yearling bulls will be semen tested before the sale. They will be testicular measurement and palpated by a licensed veterinarian. Semen testing will take place in either March or April as dictated by you the buyer. We keep lots of spare bulls. Spare bulls are available for your use in the case that something happens to the bull you purchase between sale day and turn out. In the event the bull doesn’t pass his semen test, we will refund your money and give you a spare bull to use free of charge. Don’t be concerned about the quality of our spare bulls. There have been many discussions this year about why some bulls are spare bulls and not in the sale. Beck Farms reserve the right to draw semen on any of the sale offering for in-herd use only. This will be at our expense and your convenience.

In the spring of 2018, Mason and I travelled to Debruycker Charolais in Montana in search of different genetics. After travelling over 800 miles and sorting through over 600 bulls, our pick was Marksman. Sired by LT Ledger, Marksman may not be the outcross we were looking for but backed by an incredible Trademark daughter make him a potent breeding piece that will lead our program into the future. As we calve his second set of daughters we couldn’t be happier. They are going to be easy doing mother cows with beautiful udders and way more milk than his EPDs suggest. 16 yearlings and 2 two year old sons of Marksman sell this year.

It is a pleasure to be working with the Beck family at Beck Farms. The program has a great set of bulls on oﬀer for the 13th Annual Bull Sale. The Beck bull program consists of a forage-based, total mixed ration that is designed to promote lean muscle growth as longevity is a primary focus when developing the sale bulls. This year’s group of two year olds were specifically selected for the 2022 sale. This years group is a diverse group. There are bulls that we kept for spares in 2021, bigger birthweight bulls that we used in our commercial herd in 2021, and younger bulls that were managed specifically to sell as twos. These are the best bulls of the youngest bulls born in the spring of 2019. They were summered on grass in 2021, brought in the end of October and are being wintered on a forage based TMR. All two year olds will be semen tested before the sale. All non-virgin two year olds will be trich tested. All Beck Farms bulls will have received two shots of Fusogard for foot rot before they are delivered.

88838 was our pick of the bull pen at the 2020 Shaw Cattle Co. Sale Bull Sale in Caldwell, Idaho. He was a standout in that sale in our opinion in terms of his overall type, kind, and balance. The 88838 sons are long-bodied, easy fleshing, well-muscled bulls. They are a moderate framed bunch but performance thus far is very strong in this sire group. 88838 also left us a group of replacement females that we are extremely excited to breed in the summer of 2022. About the time he had bred 60 females in the summer of 2022 it was determined that he was a carrier for MD. All of his progeny are tested. MDF denotes the bull is free of this gene. If you are looking for a bull that is dark coloured, goggle eyed, and has little white on him this is your bull. A maternal brother sold in last year’s sale to Levi Debruyne.

Mccoy bull development The McCoy bulls spent the summer of 2021 on a combination of tame and native grass pasture. Creep feed was put out August 18 to aid in the weaning process (we planned to wean early based on pasture conditions). Bulls were vaccinated and 205 day weights were recorded on September 4. Bulls were weaned a fairly normal date of October 4 after we received some timely moisture the end of August. Since weaning, bulls have been developed on a high roughage ration of silage, hay, oats and protein supplement. Corn has replaced oats in the ration since January 7 due to cost. 365 day weights were recorded on January 17. Through to January 17 our bulls are gaining approximately 1/3 of a pound per day less than normal due to recent cold weather. As in past years the bulls will not be semen tested prior to the sale. All bulls will be measured and palpated by a licensed veterinarian before sale day. Semen testing will take place in late March or early April as dictated by the buyer. We retain a large number of high quality spare bulls. Spare bulls are available to you should something happen to your bull between sale day and turn out. All McCoy bulls will receive initial vaccination for foot rot prior to being delivered.

2022 will be the last year we will have Impact sons for sale. It turns out his name has been appropriate as B451 has definitely had a strong impact on our breeding program. He has left a set of functional, excellent uddered females in both our herd and at Crittenden Land and Cattle. B451 is a leader for REA and IMF in Canada so look to his sons for balanced carcass values.

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Certificate of Registration...

Each animal will carry papers issued by the applicable breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health...

All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Guarantee...

Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the applicable breed association with regards to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Delivery...

Assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
