Welcome to our 11th annual bull sale. This is the time of year we look forward to with anticipation and excitement. Please accept our invitation to join us on February 26th for our bull sale and some hospitality. We always enjoy this time spent with our customers and friends.

Every year we work diligently to put forth the best set of Charolais bulls we possibly can. This year is no exception. The quality runs exceptionally deep in this year’s offering. Uniformity is important for commercial producers in selling your calves. Our breeding program is designed with this in mind. You will find many ½ and ¾ brothers through the sale offering. We are extremely proud of the mother cows that raise these herd bulls. These mothers are available for viewing any time whether its before the sale or on sale day. Please join us for lunch on sale day in our heated sale barn on the farm. Be prepared to stay after for our annual ‘fish fry.’ We hope to see you all on February 26, the bulls and the hospitality are guaranteed not to disappoint. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2020 Beck McCoy Bull Sale on behalf of my family. Once again, Wade and I are very pleased with the bulls we have on offer and continue to believe we are progressing in the right direction one year at a time. As I have talked about in years past, our breeding program is focused on sourcing and using the best Hereford genetics available. 2020 is the first year we will offer sons of Matrix and Tested. We continue to focus on using proven sires in our program that have a high degree of predictability rather than the newest hot sire. I have learned over the years that a cow only has one calf per year and being focused on maternal attributes, it often takes three or four years before daughters are in production to know one has made a mistake. Hence, our focus is on proven genetics, as life is too short to go backward for a few years in this business. I feel our cow herd continues to improve annually with udders, feet/legs and fleshing ability still being our top priorities in building our cow herd. This focus is ingrained in our 2020 bull offering more than ever before. The calving ease and carcass attributes represented in this group is definitely the strongest we have produced. I am also pleased to say the group of F1 heifers we are bringing this year are definitely the deepest, most consistent group we have produced. In this, their 11th year, I would like to welcome you to the Beck/McCoy Bull Sale, February 26th at the Beck Farms headquarters, Milestone, Saskatchewan. This tag team event has been very successful and their success is based on the quality product they produce, in addition to providing great service to their customers. We know the essentials that each breed adds to the livestock industry, but the compatibility of both breeds when mated together produces outstanding results. These breeders have many similarities…they have great predictable cows running in tough hilly terrain. To make the winter, the cows must have a big fat calf at side come weaning. Both breeding units are very conscious of birth weight and calving ease, selecting their sires using calving and birth weight as an important trait. Beck Farms starts the new decade with a powerful group of bulls. In this group are several potential breeder bulls and a host of rugged hairy bulls full of performance. We know the value of using a Charolais bull,especially when selling the calves…pounds mean profit in your jeans. The McCoy offering is exciting. These bulls are hairy, thick butted and calving ease specialists for the most part. Breeders check out this lineup of Polled Herefords, as your next herd bull could well be walking through this sale ring. We all know that the commercial industry can use much more Hereford influence…docility, hair, mothering and rustling in the dry years and given a chance, she will produce you a great “baldie.” Wade and Chad do not live far apart, you can easily see both groups of bulls if you stop to in for a preview. We guarantee to provide a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test at 14 months of age. Any bull failing to be a satisfactory breeder will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality, or a credit given towards purchase of another bull.

YEARLING BULLS The yearling bulls in this year’s sale are all January and February born. They spend the summer on native and tame pastures. Creep feed is put out in middle of August as an aid to help with the weaning process. They were weaned on October 6th and put on a TMR of silage, oats, straw and a protein supplement. As in the past, none of the yearling bulls will be semen tested before the sale. They will be testicular measurement and palpated by a licensed veterinarian. Semen testing will take place in either March or April as dictated by you the buyer. We keep lots of spare bulls. Spare bulls are available for your use in the case that something happens to the bull you purchase between sale day and turn out. Beck Farms reserve the right to draw semen on any of the sale offering for in-herd use only. This will be at our expense and your convenience.

TWO YEAR OLD BULLS This year’s group of two year olds were selected for the 2020 sale in the spring of 2018. These are the best bulls of the youngest bulls born in the spring of 2018. They were pastured together in 2018 on native grass. They were weaned on November 3, 2018 and wintered on a TMR of silage, straw, and a limited amount of oats. They were summered on grass in 2019, brought in the end of October and are being wintered on a TMR of silage, oats, and straw. These virgin ranch raised bulls are the 8 best of the 15 we started with in the spring of 2018. Buy with confidence. All two year olds will be semen tested before the sale. This bull’s name seems to be more suitable every day we watch his progeny develop. B451 will truly have an impact on our herd for years to come. This bull’s picture likely says it all. He is a huge barrelled calf that comes from a long lived cow family at MCC. Use him to moderate your cow herd while adding capacity and fleshing ability.

2020 marks the first year that we have Tested 7222 sons to offer. I have studied 7222’s sire, X651, for likely close to five years I suppose and spent a fair bit of time looking for a son (ask Carrie about that) as there was no semen available in Canada. X651 is a breed leader for calving ease combined with growth, as well as being at the top of the breed for marbling. 7222 was purchased from Thomas Herefords in Montana in the spring of 2018. His progeny are born very easily yet still exhibit adequate growth throughout their life. We look forward to his daughters calving in 2021 as we have retained a large group to breed this summer. 1G has been a standout in our 2019 born calves since the day he hit the ground. It is difficult to find cattle with the kind of natural thickness from front to back that this guy possesses. He indexed 132 for weaning weight and 125 for yearling weight. His sire is a breed leading curve bender that has stood the test of time. Retaining 1/3 semen interest.

66G has been a bull that caught our attention all summer long. He is short marked, goggle eyed and very complete from every angle. His granddam produced our lead bull that sold to Standard Hill in our 2018 sale. This guy was a member of our Reserve Champion Pen at Agribition last fall.

For the 4th year we are offering Hereford x Gelbvieh open replacement heifers in the sale. This yearâ€™s heifers are another strong set of baldie and brockle face heifers resulting from mating our Purebred Gelbvieh cows to Hereford bulls. We have had good reports from the folks that bought them the three two years. This year we will offering 10 groups of 3 heifers. All heifers have been vaccinated with Vista Once SQ and Vision 7 in the spring and fall of 2019 and received Ivermectin at that time as well.

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes the auctioneerâ€™s decision will be final. Each animal will carry papers issued by the applicable breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.
