n behalf of Michelle and John, I would like to welcome everyone to our “Best of Best” Female Sale. This will be one of the few sales where every top end bred heifer sells. We are offering our very best from our very best, no hold backs. Our cow herd is young and I feel solid enough to make this type of offering. I am personally a little old school when it comes to breeding cows, a program is essential. Search out the best walking bulls available, put your name on them and use them. Keep the good ones and throw away the bad ones. In the end it will all come together. We feel very comfortable with this offering and feel it deserves your appraisal. A winner

We believe strongly in herd bulls. Our program is built around the bulls that we purchase and the bulls that walk and breed cows. That is where we focus and spend the most time evaluating. Numbers, data are the first things we look at because those numbers are going to be transposed throughout the use of the bull into your cow herd.

We don’t live and die with numbers but in today’s world, looking at cattle without EPDs is like trying to see without glasses.

The next essential is the cow, she has got to be right for what we are looking for. His daughters are going to replicate her, so it’s important.

Finally the big three, body type, skeletal structure and soundness. If he doesn’t pass on these three then the aforementioned criteria means nothing.

We believe strongly in genetics and letting them play out on their own. We do not creep feed and try to keep our management to a minimum. In making our selections for replacement females, we go strictly on body type, there are no numbers considered and the data is not used. We do at times consider the cow, but as much as we like cow families, we let the cow families sort themselves to the top. Having farm favourites can be an excuse for keeping cattle that don’t measure up.

In our operation we recognized years ago that our bull customers were demanding a lower birth weight, calving ease product. More cows, less help and an aging population all dictated to this reality so we started making the move to satisfy. Selecting genetics that possess calving ease and still have acceptable performance and growth is key and is possible.

We have seen it here at our operation. Years ago I remember pulling every calf that a heifer had and pulling a number of calves out of cows. I got good at it.

Today we calve out five times the number of females in March, April and May and rarely deal with a calving.

In fact, John does not know how to use a calf puller.

Our goal is simple, to breed as much performance as possible with as few problems as possible.

Mindbender was a planned mating, combining superior female maker, S Summit and power Angus cow, HF Tibbie 93U. To this point he has crossed all boxes as a genuine breed improver. Titan was a great find from Thompson Angus in North Dakota. Deep bodied, level hipped with added dimension is what you get when use Titan. His feet are impeccable and because of his athleticism he covers a lot of ground in the breeding pasture. His sons will feature our spring bull sale and as well, his females are some of the real features here. By all accounts his daughters will be an asset to any program by way of longevity and a little different twist to the pedigree.

Titlest was a great find for us as a breeding bull. His sons are extremely popular with our commercial customers and his daughters have gone on to be great production machines, providing genetics that keep the birth weight in check without sacrificing frame and growth.

The overall balance and visual appeal of Titlest progeny are his greatest asset. As there is no more semen available on Titlest, this will be his last set of females offered for sale and we feel they are as good as we have had the opportunity to produce.

Intrinsic was obtained in the spring of 2018 from Nathan and Emily Spickler. In his first calf crop he was able to lower birth weight on every cow he was mated. Thus we chose to mate him to the majority of the females being offered. Not only did his calves come easy and small at birth but to this point we have been very impressed with the growth and more importantly the quality of the progeny.

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bigger and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final.

Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Guarantee: Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Angus Association with regard to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.

Insurance: We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

Liabilities: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.
