Welcome to Maple Line Farm and our 4th Autumn Tradition Black Angus sale. Traditions have been an important part of farm and family life at Maple Line Farm for 170 years. Established in 1845 in Blackstock, Ontario our ancestors created a lifestyle that we are proud to carry on. For five generations agriculture has been the primary source of livelihood for our family. Although the tools and methods of farming have evolved through the years, our passion for farm life has always stayed true. Our operation was built on vision, opportunity and determination. Attention to the successes of our forefathers and openness to changing with the times have allowed us to expand the business throughout the years. The introduction of Registered Angus Cattle to the farm in 1986 was one of the best decisions ever made. Our first purchase was a Power Play cow - Drynoch Darlene 2R. She went on to be a strong producer all her life and many of her progeny continue to work in our herd today. The cattle at Maple Line Farm are honest, hardworking stock. The herd was built with careful selection of cows with strong pedigrees, quiet temperaments, good udders and sound structure. We choose our replacement heifers with the same stringent conditions. Walking bulls have proven to be successful for us through the years. We purchase a new bull or two each spring and retain some of our own calves as future herd sires. Sales of our yearling bulls have climbed each year and we appreciate the referrals received by satisfied customers. We welcome the Ormiston family from Southview Farms, the Staples clan from Westwind Farms and the Bryants of Brantnor Angus to the Autumn Tradition sale each year. All veterans of the show ring, these consignors share our principles and confidence in the Angus breed. Together we have selected a lineup of cattle that we are proud to offer for sale. From the desk at T Bar... Welcome to the 2015 edition of the Annual Autumn Tradition Angus Sale. Your hosts, Ian and Joy, Brian and Terry Ormiston, Bill and Laura Staples, along with Ron and Linda Bryant invite you to their annual fall production sale. Four years ago, touring the Maple Line pastures, an experienced cattleman whom most of you know, remarked “Maple Line Farm is one of the few herds in Eastern Canada that offers opportunities for breeders young or old and established, to select from a large group of not pampered breeding stock at fair market value.” Since the Rudkin family use agriculture as their sole livelihood, the cow herd is run in cowboy fashion using large pastures and carefully selected walking bulls with current fresh genetics. With the use of walking sires, the Maple Line herd offers uniformity in body type and fertility; hence the females selected over the past three sales have gone out and proven to be valuable property for those who have chosen to explore and discover their added value! Southview Farms, Brian and Terry Ormiston and their families, operate in a similar fashion to that of Maple Line, with the exception that they use artificial insemination to add new genetics into their program. Producers of two breeds of seed stock, Angus and Charolais, they operate one of the largest cowherds in Eastern Canada and market quite a few bulls. Their understanding of breeding and selection is based on the experience of feeding out what they produce. Bill and Laura Staples, Westwind Farm, operate a small but elite breeding herd. The Staples lifestyle is multi-faceted and when you think you are busy, just try to follow Bill for a day. The dedication to Angus and children learning in agriculture is the driving force in building their top herd of breeding females. Ron and Linda Bryant, Brantnor Farms, bring the competitive influence to the sale offering. Seasoned veterans breeding competitive Angus seed stock, Brantnor has been successfully exhibiting at the Royal Winter Fair for many years. Their record setting four year consecutive Premier Breeder sweep from ‘09 to ‘12 might never be duplicated in the breed! The 2015 lineup is exciting... several herd bull prospects... exciting young heifer calves for aspiring juniors and those who still feel like juniors. The bred division of the sale is stellar, offering opportunities for those who are serious about producing quality Angus breeding stock... the cow/calf pairs will be a feature! Over the last 17 years Westwind Farms has grown to a herd of 65 purebred Angus cattle, operating on the century family farm just north of Omemee. Every year we try to bring a top cow and calf pair to the sale. This is a cow we purchased from Glen Gabel Regina, Saskatchewan, as a bred heifer.
