From the desk of T Bar…

“Focus on the Future”, has been the goal since day one for the Lischka’s and Lafrentz’s. These two operations, although raising different breeds, share common goals; both are leaders in their breed and constantly strive to produce fresh and elite genetics enabling you to take full advantage of their programs. Both operations are built around solid cow families mated to sires that have been thoroughly researched for optimal results. These folks have both traveled extensively across North America sourcing genetics that are new and diverse and all you have to do is come to Alameda and take advantage of their efforts.

The future in the cattle business is brighter than ever, with many of the experts saying “we have only just seen the beginning, with no end in sight”. As primary producers, you have felt abused over the last several years and you were; however, that is starting to change and will change. With supplies at historic lows and the world population growing and an economy on the rebound, the cow business is fun again and more importantly profitable. It is believed that the world’s food supply will need to increase by seventy percent in the next forty years. These statistics are staggering and Canada will have a huge role in the increase of beef production. With our large unpopulated land area and our ability to grow grain; the grass fed beef markets will only be able to increase production if they import grain or take grass out of production to grow grain, leveling the playing field.

Now more than ever is the time to “Focus on the Future”, make sure your program is maximizing its full potential and capitalize on this rising market. Visit with these breeders and let them help you with your selections; they know their genetics and how they perform. Working together with these breeders will make your future clearer. If we at T Bar maybe of any assistance, prior to or sale day, call Ted or myself. Chris

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR PAST BULL SALE BUYERS.

Welcome once again to our spring bull sale. It has been an exciting year here for us. This fall we hosted a very successful Foundation Female sale. It was with mixed emotions that we held this sale but was very gratifying to get such positive feed back from breeders and commercial cattlemen alike. The bulls on offer in this years sale are sons and brothers of many of the feature lots in our past female sale.

The new Hereford is gaining a lot of momentum across North America. These bulls will add efficiency and maternal strength while adding pounds on any type of cowherd. No other breed offers this kind of versatility. If your goal is to sell high quality steers and keep replacement females in herd, then these bulls are worth some serious consideration.

It is once again our pleasure to be hosting this sale with Wheatland; Vern, Denise and the boys are bringing, once again, a great set of bulls. The power in their program is amazing and with their numbers being up this year, this certainly is the Simmental event of the year. We look forward to seeing you on the 31st, but please give us a call ahead if there are any questions we can answer. No one knows your cowherd better than you, and I am sure that we can meet your needs. Regards, Karl

35W is out of cow making sire, Sonora. His dam is easy doing with a lot of body. We feel this Sonora son will do a lot of things right.

From Wheatland Cattle Co. we welcome you and your family to our annual bull sale. It is great to be involved with the folks at ANL; Karl, Karen and Allan – they certainly breed and source the best Hereford genetics available, giving you that competitive edge in your program.

Thanks for your time and interest in our program. There is certainly exciting times ahead in the cattle industry – those decisions we have made and will make are going to take us into the future. Never has there been a time when only the best will do. The bulls you will see in the catalogue have been designed with you in mind.

We have bred our cattle in our own way, not straying off from what we believe. Year after year – time after time we have bred what the industry has demanded – convenience with moderate birth weights, ideal udder type with acceptable body kind and size. Our cattle are raised in a real world environment, where trees are cattle shelters and a river is a water bowl. The pedigrees in the bulls are as solid and predictable as you will find anywhere. Our females are not traded every fall, they are retained in our program to raise bulls for you. This past year at CWA, we had the honor of being Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor. Exhibiting cattle enables us to compare our cattle on the same turf – the same day. No difference than the comparisons you make in your bull selections. Congratulations to all those who have taken the time and expense to exhibit and promote the Simmental breed this past year.

Thank you to all, it is truly an honor to be involved with so many great people in an industry that we have a PASSION for! Let March 31, 2011 be the opportunity to take your program to the next level. We look forward to visiting with you about your program. Thanks again, talk to you later,

Vernon, Denise, Riley and Cody-Ray

The entire staff at Bouchard Livestock have cherished the opportunity to work with the folks at Wheatland since their first bull sale. Certainly it has been a pleasure to get aquainted with the ANL program and the great folks there as well. The genetics at this sale represent two individual programs and two very distinct breeds.

I have known Vern and Denise for many years and want to compliment them on the great breeding program they have developed, but more importantly the great job they have done raising two of the nicest boys in the livestock industry. Riley and Cody are two of the well met young men in the Simmental industry. The Wheatland crew do a great job exhibiting throughout the year. This is a testimony that getting your product in front of the public is important. Wheatland has been named Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor several times at Agribition in recent years. Their cattle have went on and produced for the new owners and have been some of the sought after genetics in AI sire catalogues and bull sales up and down the road. The cattle industry is fortunate to have folks that exhibit cattle at the various shows and promote the breed and the livestock industry in general.

Wheatland bull offering this year is stouter top to bottom than ever before. It should be no surprise when it is anchored by 680S, one of the sought after bulls in the Simmental industry. As always there will be a number of outcross pedigreed bulls on offer. They have done a nice job introducing new genetics over the years. For 2011 Wheatland will offer pick of the females from their entire herd. When you think of their success this is a very unique opportunity.

Contact Vern, Denise, Cody or Riley ,ahead of time, and discuss the bulls on offer and how they will meet your needs. The Bouchard Livestock crew will be very familiar with the offering and would welcome your call if you are unable to attend. It would be our pleasure to assist with your herdbull needs. As always we look forward to visiting with everyone on sale day.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED THROUGH OUT THE YEAR AND TO ALL OF OUR BUYERS

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, here it is! After 40 years of breeding Simmental cattle, we are offering a flush lot on PICK OF THE HERD. We have seen our foundation females go and raise bulls that have been sought after up and down the road. ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS, is the females you will be choosing from carry the LER tattoo. These females have been bred and raised here at Wheatland. We know these females can produce, they have proven that. They are backed by generations of Wheatland breeding. The females have unique and interesting pedigrees, not only have they taken our program to another level, those same females have produced sons that have taken many herds to the top of the industry. These females WORK! Here is an opportunity to be involved in something very special. We are extremely confident in our females, now you be the judge; we have made our move, you make yours! Seller guarantees a minimum of 6 #1 embryos and four pregnancies. All flushing and implanting must be conducted by an accredited embryologist. The buyer receives any and all embryos greater than 6. Wheatland semen inventory is available to use for the flush. Buyer is responsible for all flushing costs, semen and shipping. Option A- Take one entire flush on any female in the Wheatland herd. Option B- Flush any one female twice and split the flushes 50/50 with Wheatland. (sires to be mutually agreed upon)

680S is a bull that will go down writing history in the Simmental breed. He was bred—born and raised here, sired by Wheatland Bull 131L and mothered by a Wheatland bred female, Wheatland Lady 351N. A true breeding bull, having as many high sellers and competitive cattle as any. Never has there been a bull that has added the stoutness, shape and hair that 680 does, time after time. No matter where he is used, how he is used; his progeny are as consistent and predictable as they come.

15X

LOT 26

Here is a super stout, hairy 680S son. This bull will create some interest, as he is as deep and big middled as they come. This bull will be one of the headliner 680 sons to sell this spring. 15X has that known 680 wide top and square hip. We just love the softness and completeness in this young herdsire! What more could one want, a super soft made, deep individual with a ton of testicle development. 15X has lots of that good “TEDDY” hair, this is something that we have worked hard to keep into our program. He has that hair that Vern calls “ELECTRIC”! For those of you that know Vern, good hair is definitely something that he puts a lot of emphasis on when making bull selections! 15X has that herd bull look with such a strong true breeding head, and boy can he get out and move. The dam of 15X is a very hard working productive Inferno female that always has a good one, she has one of those killer, perfect udders. The combination of 680 and Inferno worked so well. This bull carries generations of Wheatland breeding. The dam of 15X just calved the other day and had just a sweetie of a 680 heifer calf! With predictability and proven genetics here is your opportunity to add some great cow families to your breeding program.

20X combines all of the performance of 680 and the calving ease of Goldmine. This bull is massive topped and heavy muscled. He has that awesome hair, that lights up! 20X is a bull with a great future. His dam, 716 is a moderate, big barreled female that has the coolest front end, and a great udder. We may get a touch repetitive about udder type and quality, but it is something that we put a great deal of emphasis on. 20X is very similar to the other 680 sons. I think we can see how 680 really stamped them. This bull will give your next calf crop that extra muscle and shape. I think a pen of replacement females out of this bull could be the real deal!

54X LOT 28

A long made, extremely eye catchy 680 son. This bull has a lot of character and I think he knows it! The dam of this bull was successfully shown at Agribition where she was Junior Calf Champion in 2008. A full sib to this bull placed second in class this year and had a lot of friends. This cow family has that, what we call “the look”; not every cow family has it. 54X is a little longer made bull that is extremely thick made. He has that neat front end and has a great presence about him. 842U, a Red Label female and 680 really made a nice combination; these two bulls complimented each other. 842, has a great udder and is one of the first females that you are drawn to in the herd. If you are looking for a bull to add a little length, but still keep them stout and hairy, make sure you check out 54X.

62X is a bull that needs to be seen if you are in the market for a black herd bull this spring! He is sired by the phenomena 680S, a bull that we are so proud to have bred and raised. The 680 sired calves have taken the Simmental industry by storm, he will go down as “THE BULL MAKER.” 680S sired the Champion Get of Sire in 2009 and 2010 at Agribition and most recently the 2010 Grand Champion Simmental Bull, and top 10 finalist in the RBC Supreme,, Stout 930W. Congrats to Rancier Farms, exhibiting the 2010 Junior Bull Calf Champion and Reserve Junior Bull Calf at this past Agribition, who went on to be the high selling bull in the Agribition Sale; congrats to Ultra Livestock and THANK-YOU TO ALL WHO FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND CONFIDENCE IN OUR PROGRAM! 62X, is mothered by a beautiful “Sevens” daughter, she is one of our elite females. She is very moderate, extremely deep with a lot of capacity and shape. She has the most perfect udder, and udder quality and type is also something we put a lot of emphasis on. I really admire the character and strength of head this bull has. This bull is solid black, smooth made and expresses a lot of rib shape. 62X is a stout made individual that really puts it all together. He is big topped and square hipped. Like the other 680 sons, he has that great hair and testicle development. 617, has a 922 (high selling bull from 2010 sale) bull calf on her this year and he will be fun to Wheatland Bull 835U watch grow. Predictability runs deep, 62X has a lot to add to the livestock Maternal Brother to Lot 29 industry. Sold to Albert Boutin

The statement holds true BEHIND EVERY ELITE HERDSIRE, THERE HAS TO BE A PROLIFIC COW FAMILY BEHIND HIM TO MOVE YOU FORWARD IN THE INDUSTRY! Here is a bull that commands your attention; he really needs to be analyzed from all angles. This bull is power packed not only in phenotype but also in genotype. After years of breeding Simmental cattle, here is a bull that we are very proud to put our tattoo on. This bull has all of the great cow families that we have to offer. The sire of this bull, 680S is creating a lot of excitement in the Simmental industry. He is known for making bulls, but on the flip side you need to see a set of 680 daughters milking; you will be equally impressed! It is awesome to see 680S working in so many great herds! 97X posses a big top and is very deep sided. 97X has lots of flank and he moves out so freely, with a great foot under him. He has that herd bull look, he has that certain presence about him with tons of character and a great head. You have to like the look that his front-end has. He is so complete and puts it all together. The dam of 97X, Wheatland Lady 742T, has made a lot of friends from all breeds over the years. She has had a very successful show career, and is also the dam of Wheatland Red Earth. Red Earth was one of the most talked about Red Simmental bulls in the barns at Agribition. Semen on Red Earth will be available through Bouchard Livestock. 742T is a full sib to Red Ace, Maverick, 737, the dam of Wheatland Stout and 736. The Top Gun/902 cross works so well. A full brother sold in last years sale to Arrow Creek and Bonchuk Farms and also a full brother in blood is Wheatland Stout. Wheatland Lady 921W is another full sib and Riley had a lot of fun showing her this past fall, where she was named Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Beef Extreme. I think the most exciting part of this female is to see her in production, she is absolutely beautiful. This bull has a power packed pedigree. We feel so confident in 97X that we would like the opportunity, if desired to be involved in his future.

If you’re looking for a Red Herd Bull this spring look no further. This calf is loaded! 60X is sired by STF Unanimous, a bull that sure left his stamp in our herd. This bull is mothered by one of the most ideal cows on the farm, Wheatland Lady 644S, she is a full sib to the set of 902/Red Label flush brothers. This bull has that herd bull look to him and is massive hipped, big topped, deep sided with a ton of hair! His maternal brother is working in the good herd of John Mackenzie, Drayton Valley. Time and time again, you hear people asking for that outcross pedigreed bull, well here you go! 60X is sired by a total outcross pedigree to Canada. It is no mistake the way this calf turned out, good cow families make great breeding bulls. The guesswork has been eliminated! Here is one of the elite red bulls to sell this spring!

A solid red son, out of the outcross bull Unanimous. 85X’s dam is a hard working Inferno female, actually a full sib to 614S, who is the dam of 46X. This cow family has really worked for us and we rely on them year after year. They just raise the right kind! 85X is very soft in his make up giving you that extra shape of rib. He is a real good footed bull that travels out well. This bull is a little younger but has lots of testicle development. 85X will give you a chance to add some highly productive outcross genetics to your cow herd.

Congratulations to Dieter and Marlene Rucks 2010 Saskatchewan Commercial Simmental Breeder

We purchased 786T, Bomber, a full brother to 680S in 2007. He is everything Vern & Denise said he would be! Sound, stout and thick, great calving ease, quiet disposition. In 2008 we added the high seller, 872U to our bull battery. Adding the Wheatland genetics to our herd has moved us in the right direction. A visit with Vern & Denise is always motivating. A solid dark red son of Wheatland Bull 786T, who is a full brother to 680S. Here is a bull that is packed full of meat and muscle. 14X is wide topped and long made. He has lots of good hair and great testicle development. This bull is powerful! 14X moves out freely and has a big foot under him. 14X will add those extra pounds to your calf crop at weaning time.

T178 HR REF

In our pursuit for heterozygous black outcross genetics, we added T178 to our bull battery. He is sired by ES Dakota and mothered by the great Emmons Ranch 42B cow family. He was bred by Hale Ranch, Perryton, Texas. This past January, at the Denver Stock Show, Hale Ranch had the Grand Champion Pen of Three and Pen of Five Bulls. Most of these bulls were sons of T178. He calved extremely nice with a big spread in his weaning to yearling weights; a combination that we all work hard to put together.

If you’re looking for a black power house, look no further! This calf is meat and muscle from front to back. 16X is massive topped and as soft made of a calf as we maybe have ever raised to date. This bull has great hair with large testicles and boy can he move! 16X’s sire T178 was purchased out of the Champion Pen of bulls in Denver. T178 left us an exceptional calf crop, having sired the Junior Heifer Calf at Agribition 2010. T178 also sired 3 of the 5 members in the Grand Champion Pen of bulls at this past Denver. Not only are the bulls powerful out of T178, but equally are the females. We are very excited to get our T178 daughters into production. 16X is mothered by an extremely power female that possess a ton of rib shape and has a deadly udder. 16X is backed by powerful genetics both on the top and bottom of his pedigree. This bulls’ genetics will add power to your herd. You have to appreciate how massive he is from front to back; he is a real powerhouse. Here is an opportunity to add some powerful outcross genetics to your program.

We purchased a “Teddy” son and we used him on our Black Angus females. We have seen excellent results. The past two years we won Grand and Reserve Champion pen of steers at Yorkton’s Harvest Showdown and we placed second with a pen of futurity heifers. Our cattle had lots of friends at the show and sale barn. The Champion pen of steers went into 4-H programs, while the Reserve Champion pens have done very well at Birch Island Feedlot, Rhein, SK. The females we retained are just flat out good; everything you could ask for in a replacement program. If you are in need of a herd sire we can’t say enough about the Wheatland program. He is mothered by a moderate 902/Teddy daughter, who like every other 902 daughter has that perfect udder not only in type but in teat placement and size. 428, is one of my favorite females. Here is a bull that has endless potential for his new owner. This may be one of the most exciting calves to sell in our sale offering. The sire of this bull T178, has done a great job here. The calves come easy and then really get growing. The dam of this bull is no stranger to the Simmental industry; she has raised herd bull after herd bull---Wheatland Lady 351N. She is a beautiful made female and is always one of the first picked out by visitors. She just calved this last week and has the deadliest Wheatland Stout heifer calf at side; we finally got a heifer out of her. 64X is big topped, and soft made. This bull has a great foot under him and strides out perfectly. 64 has lots of testicle development and has that awesome hair. We have maintained that great cow families make great breeding bulls and 64X is a perfect example of this. This bull has a slightly outcross pedigree, but more importantly, a PROVEN pedigree. He has that herd bull look with tons of character and a great head. Here is a bull that will add not only character and style to your calves, you will be adding one of our truly elite cow families. The guesswork is done, now just let 64X go to work in your program.

Here is a black percentage bull out of Wheatland Route One 852U, who is owned by Tableland Cattle Co. 852U proved to be a calving ease bull, leaving lots of good hair and excellent structure. The grand dam, the Who Made Who female (029) is still in production at the age of 11. 43X is good haired, the kind that jumps at you. He is stout made and is very attractive in his make-up. This bull sure could go on and sire some show steers and heifers for his new owner. 43X has a different twist to his proven pedigree.

25X is a very deep sided, long made bull that has loads of hair. This bull is a tank! You have to love the shape of rib and softness that he possesses. 25X is not only big middled, he is also big topped and square made. The dam of this bull is also soft made and moderate. 25X should sire those calves with that extra shape, length and capacity.

This bull goes right back to where Merit Cattle Co. started in the Angus business 26 years ago. His grand dam was in production for 15 years. 36X has a solid female foundation behind him. His dam is a RR Hero, who has a perfect udder and it ultra feminine. This female also has a life time weaning ratio of 107 on her Angus bull calves. We appreciate how complete this bull is in his make-up; he is a must see! Anyone, who is serious about crossbreeding cattle and adding some pounds to your next calf crop, here you go! 136X is sired by the bull maker himself 680S; he crossed so well on the Angus females. 136X is no fluke, with multiple awesome cow families in his pedigree. Consistently bred, here is one of the most elite Sim/Angus bulls (F1) to sell this spring.

What a truly exciting venture this collaboration with Wheatland has been. We have been contemplating this for a couple of years, so you know it hasn’t been an impulsive decision. It’s been a great experience working with them. Merit Cattle Co. has been producing Angus seedstock for 26 years and like the Lafrentz family, what we do is our passion. At Merit we march to the beat of our own drum, we have always believed in the value of a true breeding program through the use of our own herdsires, whether they were raised by us or purchased. We believe that the basics are essential to build a strong foundation. We’ve never chased the latest fad. Our cowherd has been moving forward down the middle of the road, no single trait selection or extremes. We have always focused on balanced trait selection. Udder quality, depth, fleshing ability, fertility, great hair and exceptional foot structure are the basics upon which we built our cowherd. The mothers of these bulls are a combination of front end females and good solid producers. These bulls ARE a consistent product! Their female siblings are equally as impressive. They are out of quality registered Angus females. These bulls are the product of two consistent and predictable programs with the same philosophies. We did NOT breed a group of bottom end cows in hope of getting a better product, that doesn’t offer anything to anyone. Beware of cheap imitations. These bulls are herd builders and improvers; you have the opportunity to seize all the benefits that both breeds have to offer. We look forward to meeting you at the sale.

165X LOT 53

Wow, these F1 bulls are a must see!! They are all so similar and are like peas in a pod! It has been a true privilege to see when these bulls mature. I remember this spring when we went up to Merit’s to look at the calves and how impressed we were, not only in the calves, but in the type and kind of Angus females that our family had the opportunity to work with! Just like his half brothers, this bull is massive topped, extremely deep sided and stout! This bull has the most beautiful front-end in him, and has that certain “look”. The dam of 65X is one of Trent’s favorite females at Merit. She, 4189, is moderate, deep, with a lot of spring of rib and that awesome hair with a picture perfect udder. 65X’s grand dam has earned her Elite dam status at Merit Cattle Co., with her Angus bull calf last year being one of the picks of the pen! This bull has so much to offer, with endless potential. Just think of the beautiful replacement females this bull would make. Make sure to find 65X, you will be impressed!

195X LOT 54

Here is an extremely stout made bull; he’s a truck. Another must see individual. The dam of this fella is a beautiful female. Her Angus bull calf last year, was the second heaviest at weaning, and was Janelle’s pick of the bull calves. 95X comes from a very solid and productive cow family. His dam is one of the superior Main Event daughters that have done nothing but good for Merit. The females are truly herd building females. 95X is wide topped, deep sided and has a lot of rib shape. He also has deadly hair and shows an abundance of testicle development. We are so proud to put a group of bulls like this together for your appraisal.

53X has that cocky look to him, as he grabs your attention. He is hairy and stout. 53X’s dam is super deep, has tons of capacity and has a perfect udder. This is her second calf and her 2009 Angus bull boasted a weaning ratio of 110. 53X has loads of middle and shape to him. He has that cool front end. Here is a bull that could sire those highly sought after show steers and heifers giving them that “look at me” look!

86X is a stout made, awesome haired 680S son. The dam of 86X, 6149 has a 108 lifetime ratio on her Angus calves. The grand dam of 86X is an Elite cow. 86X is square hipped, big middled and moves like a cat. Here is an opportunity to add some of the best genetics that the Angus and the Simmental breed have to offer. A pen of replacement females from this bull would set the bar as would a set of crossbred steers. Take a look here!

Here is one of the standouts in this Synergy offering! This bull will create some interest sale day. 164X is sired by Wheatland Bull 786T, who is a full brother to 680. 786T, is working in the progressive herd of Gerry and Linda Bertholate (Maple Lake Stock Farms). 164X’s dam is one of the standout females at Merit, she is seven years old and is still fault free. She has a lifetime weaning ratio of 105 on her Angus bull calves. 164X’s grand dam was one of the original foundation females at Merit. 164 has that herd bull look and is an outstanding individual. He is stout, deep, has that strong “Teddy” head and has loads of testicles. The pedigree runs deep here and the guesswork has been eliminated. Help yourselves to a top end Synergy bull to sell this spring!

Here is a bull that has a little older pedigree, he goes back to where it all started for us, being sired by Wheatland Bull 131L “Teddy”. You will find 131L in the back of the pedigree in a lot of great breeding bulls! The mother of 139X is a moderate daughter of the elite sire Equalizer. Equalizer daughters have that extra depth and capacity. The dam of 139 is ten years old and the grand dam is still in production at the age of 12! Maternal sister to the dam of 139X has one of the feature Angus bulls in Merits’ Bull Sale on March 28th. You won’t find many and this could be the only direct “Teddy” son to sell this spring. Here is an opportunity to get your hands on a direct “Teddy” son.

A 468P, “Hummer” son; a bull that we successfully showed for 3 years! The dam of 50X, is still in production at 11 years of age, now that is what I call a productive cow family. The cow families behind 50X are highly maternal and productive both on the Angus and Simmental sides. I think that is one of the unique things about these true F1 or Sim/Angus Synergy bulls, is that they are ALL backed by very maternal, hard working cow families. Trent and Janelle hold true the same philosophies as do Vern and I, A BULL IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE COW FAMILIES THAT STAND BEHIND HIM! This is so very true, and that is what makes breeding cattle so exciting, trying to put together as many good, solid cow families into a pedigree! 50X will give you a little extra calving ease, but also that performance that you would expect come weaning time. The maternal sister to 50X was the Junior Champion Female for Cody at the 2008 Canadian Junior Angus Show
