Our pedigreed livestock story spans more than a single year. As a lifelong student of the pedigreed livestock world, I see nothing wrong with pointing out realities. Just so you understand, what I write is a function of what I know and what I see. My belief is that it takes passage of existence to build a very unique, genetically strong, and very serious pedigreed livestock operation.

In this editorial this co-owner presents you zero details concerning or relating to our sale offering. I could, but that’s left to David. I don’t believe in overlapping and duplication as I crave efficiency. Every year David prepares for you in this magazine, multiple compositions, describing thoroughly for you each and every lot cataloged, plus you also get to read in his own words a personalized summary on every 100%-owned Rendezvous herdsire. This year our ringside representatives working for you will be Shane Michelson, Ben Wright and Don Oberg. These three gentlemen are waiting for your texts and phone calls to select any number of lots for you. They are professional and dedicated pedigreed livestock order buyers. From this sale magazine they can select, bid and buy for you, any lots for your benefit, with your best interests in mind, all at no cost to you. Shane, Ben and Don will meet your needs. These individuals are gracious and warm, completely the accessible every day person.

It also takes a strong vision and an obsessive focus on the few things that really matter. The Rendezvous brand name has now achieved near-universal Canadian provinces wide awareness. Rendezvous Farms is also strongly recognized in a big portion of the United States Midwest. The Rendezvous name is a promise to you, and our brand strength comes from keeping that promise year after year, of raising superior genetics, with great value and offering first-rate customer service. For us that means constant improvement of our annual Simmental Sale offering with no corner-cutting. My present role is offering relentless optimism and addressing the past, although my two sons leading our organization much prefer to discuss the present and whenever possible the future. David and Gerald have the capacities to undertake big projects and to do them well. With their cool confidence they are thinkers and doers, persons of maturity and depth. My thoughts are that in life basically anyone who chooses to work hard, venture and strive do become results oriented. I’ve always revered those no matter the odds that took risks in pursuit of the big score. I would like to believe that Gerald and David are also both gifted and cursed by the ability to sense all options when dealing with our most challenging land, grain and pedigreed livestock issues. Both my sons are also highly responsive towards introducing new bloodlines into our large all-papered herds of Reds, Fullbloods and Black Simmentals.

For our whole group of Rendezvous pedigreed open heifers selling remember they are of the herd building kind. To strive with any livestock herd one has to maintain perspective. We don’t run and hide every time a commodity sector sells off as that’s when wealthmultiplying buying opportunities flourish. Staying focused to fight our own fears will yield this year’s Rendezvous’ female buyers great rewards. Bottom line is this, agri-business has always been the Maguet family’s field of activity and knowledge. No wet fingers in the wind here at Rendezvous. David and Gerald do their homework and take the long-term view of all things agricultural and with that the interests of customers and of Rendezvous Farms align. My sons often mention to Pauline and I that if we continue to serve our customers in a truly outstanding way, our customers will have a rational preference to stick with us. Exactly what has been happening.

We have made bold rather than timid decisions selecting our future herdsires where we see sufficient probabilities of gaining market advantages. Most of these herdbull purchases pay off. A few do not, and we at Rendezvous will have learned another valuable lesson in either case. Unlike most other Simmental breeders, Rendezvous owns nothing less than the full ownership of all our many active herdsires. We pony up solo to buy our own herdbulls without ever joining the out there multiple ownership breeder clubs. What a lot of nonsense. We also don’t believe in using in our herds someone else’s highly propagandized AI bulls structured to benefit the sponsor either directly or indirectly. Rendezvous has total confidence in buying its own walking herdsires. That said, immediately after a purchase, we use the newly acquired herdsire heavily in one of our herds because of the sureness we have in our purchase. Regarding the question of what do we buy, Rendezvous is only interested in quality and a match for those specific needs. Buying powerful herdsires has worked for us. We produce consistent and predictable beef bulls year after year.

Herd Health and Fertility: All sale cattle have been treated twice with Ivomec are on the Pfizer Gold Program: Bovi-Shield Gold 5, One Shot & Ultrabac7/Somubac. InForce was also given as calves. Hummer 217U has turned out to be one heck of a breeding bull. His sons and daughters are the kind of cattle that are so right for the times. His sire is the $38,000 Wheatland Red Hummer 608S who was purchased by Double Bar D and Swan Lake. The dam is a tremendous R Plus Red Ribeye cow who goes back to LaBatte’s famed IPU Red Pocahontas 105L cow. The 105L cow is the dam of Robb Farms’ famed 71N cow that has made them big dollars in the last few years. Enough about pedigree and past accomplishments, the IPU Red Hummer 217U bull saw heavy service the last few breeding seasons after seeing how his first crop developed so well. What we really like about Hummer is his large, wide, square made quarters. When you walk behind him, one can’t help but be impressed with the pair of pants he boasts. His length & scale is another huge selling point. He has matured into an elite herdsire here at the farm and anchors our red program. Hummer’s calves are born easily and at two days of age, they are all the same -- low set and the widest topped babies on the place. IPU Nero 274X has made a name for himself very quickly. The fact that he’s a Polled Fullblood meat machine may be part of the reason. We selected Nero at LaBatte’s in 2011, where he was our pick of the Fullblood bulls that year. A long, smooth made, easy fleshing bull, that’s low set and deep bodied. After losing the IPU Red Caesar 11U bull after only two calf crops, we ended up keeping a son of his, just hoping that he would do what his father did, which was being our main heifer bull. After the first five calves were born, we knew that Caesar 584 would become a permanent fixture at the ranch. A good herd bull always breeds better than himself, point in case is with this Caesar line. Every generation seems to impress us more and more. The calves from Caesar 584 are small at birth, but turn into curve bending growth machines. When touring people in the herd sire pasture, a lot of folks seem to gravitate towards this young herd sire. To make things even better, Caesar 584 is also Homozygous Polled.

Smuggler had the hair, length, thickness and performance we look for in a herdbull. His calves are the same way -- hairy, thick butted and long bodied. We’re quite excited with Red Express! He was the lead off bull at Herdmasters 2013. Doug Zimmer had nothing but praise for his mother, especially since Red Express was her first calf. Express was truly one of the thickest, deepest bodied bulls we saw in the spring of 2013. This stout made bull is an impressive individual, one of the only yearling bulls we’ve used that never lost any condition during breeding season. His super dark red color is something he passes on to his progeny as well. The combination of length, thickness & middle to this herd sire is something that blends nicely. The lead off & high selling Fullblood bull from Maxwell’s in 2014. Hemi’s length & super sound structure along with his rich color made him a natural fit for our breeding program. As a yearling we used him heavily & the results were even better than what we had anticipated! His sons are like peas in a pod. The quest for a heifer bull can be a challenging one at times, never being 100% certain until the calves are born. However, with Red Rambo, you could bet the farm on him, he is a heifer bull!! An awesome blaze faced bull, we seriously can’t make enough of these bulls! One has to really appreciate the phenotype of this herdsire prospect, low set, soggy, deep bodied, mellow made individual. An early March bull, and one of our younger lots to sell but none the less a good one. Smaller framed with exceptionally smooth shoulders, he is definitely another great candidate for the heifer pen. We’ve had a huge growing demand for these types of Red Simmental heifer bulls. Number one reason is they calve better than the typical British breed & you don’t get that birth weight fluctuation when using them on Simmental cross females. Just ask our night watchman Ron Raffray. He comments all the time on how easy it is nowadays calving heifers, as they just do it on their own.

This is a bull who always seems to catch our eye whenever we’re in the pen, and we’re not the only ones to say that. Everyone who’s toured around always comments on what an impressive bull this is. 184D is definitely eye catching. He’s got so much thickness & is filled in perfectly everywhere. Blaze faced & chuck full of meat, here’s a hellish good super easy keeping bull sired by our new herdsire whom we’re so excited about, Mandako! We ended up getting more heifers out of the Express bull last year than bulls, however the bulls we did get sure have developed nicely. 81D is solid red, solid built & will mature into an impressive herdsire. The Express bull made his presence known in our last 2 bull sales, with his sons being some of the most sought after we’ve ever produced and no wonder, just look at them, you’ll know why. I don’t want to sound like a broken record when I talk about these Caesar sons but it’s hard not to since they’re so similar in how they develop! This powerful blaze faced bull was born to a first calf heifer at 79lbs & weaned off at 915lbs. The Draco mother definitely did a great job on her first kick at the can. I really like the shape & muscle expression of this bull. He comes together so nicely, wide topped, thick butted, big testicles & the right amount of bone. Talk about an eye catching bull! Transcon rep Cody Haney was dazzled by 275D when he was touring the bull pen in late November. Cody kept saying “no matter which angle I analyze this bull, I just can’t seem to poke any holes in him”. I don’t think we can make them any more red than this. Sire & dam both with the same coloring, Glenn Norton has always praised how dark colored our reds actually are. The grandsire, Specialist, a red bull even had black pigment on his face & extremities. Physically talking, this heifer is as well built as any we’ve made. Since Express sired more heifers than bulls last year, it gave us the opportunity to offer a few more of his daughters than what we normally would. Terms & Conditions TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, Mastercard, Visa, and Interac payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. INFORMATION SUPPLIED - The information contained in this catalog is believed to be true and accurate. However, the information has been supplied by the seller and neither Transcon Livestock Corp. or Jamesway Enterprises Ltd. assume any responsibility if the information supplied is not accurate. CATTLE PICTURES - The images in this catalog are believed to be accurate representations of the individual animals. Transcon Livestock Corp. and Jamesway Enterprises Ltd. assume no responsibility if the images as received have been altered. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalog. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the applicable breed association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has

been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association. SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. BREEDERS GUARANTEE - As per applicable Canadian Breed Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. HEALTH - It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors. or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale. TRANSCON LIVESTOCK CORP. IS AGENT ONLY - It is to be clearly understood that Transcon Livestock Corp. is only acting as a medium between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations, neither does Transcon Livestock Corp. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties, and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken, must be between buyer and seller.
