DEAR FRIENDS, #30
This year marks the 30th time we are organizing Sziget Festival, and the 30th time you will cross the emblematic K Bridge and step into possibly Europe’s most colourful festival, celebrated worldwide as the Island of Freedom. The bridge is recognized as a symbolic passage from everyday life into a vibrant whirlwind of culture, while the island has also become known as a place where we can all share a week living out our own personal freedoms, and the unique atmosphere and special feeling that only a pulsating festival can offer. This is a place where a kaleidoscope of styles, shows and cultures line up side by side, and where we can leave our worries and fears behind, not to mention the injustices and discrimination we might face in the outside world. A place where love and acceptance are a lived experience.
Anyone entering Sziget chooses freedom, and what we offer is the freedom to choose. A cavalcade of adventures, diverse musical events and a broad spectrum of concerts, unforgettable parties that go on until dawn, and captivating performers – from up-and-coming artists to global stars –representing a variety of genres on a dozen stages all come together on the Island of Freedom. Once again, there will be circus shows, theatre and dance performances, street theatre, arts and crafts, yoga, a riverside chill zone, and several hundred other programs and happenings.
But the essence of Sziget lies not only in the programs and many varied services we offer, but in you, who will return to fill this wonderful space with life, and show that Sziget audience has evolved into an accepting and welcoming international community over the past three decades –a community in which it is good to enjoy each other’s company and savour the moment without a care in the world.
By happy, love and take care of each other, and have a great time!
In friendship,
whole
Sziget team
Tamás Kádár CEO and the
Dear Szitizen,
Sziget Festival has been a celebration of freedom, openness and diversity since its inception. For 31 years, this week-long event has been an integral part of Budapest’s rich cultural life. Visitors not only have the chance to choose from the musical offerings of Hungary and the world, but also to enjoy a unique community experience that is rarely available anywhere else. Enjoy the programmes and let love and friendship blossom! And while you’re at it, take care of the wildlife on Óbuda Island, the venue for the event, so that the flowers can bloom too!
Have fun, everyone!
Gergely Karácsony Mayor of Budapest
Dear Festival Friends,
The Sziget Festival has become one of the most recognised and well known musical and cultural events over the past three decades. Year after year, it proves to be capable of rebirth and renewal.
This is the festival where we can all find opportunities for entertainment, relaxation, whilst being together. Though it’s true that our music taste may differ, and we may be attracted by different recreational initiatives, there will always be something joining us festival-goers together: the love of freedom, the respect for each others’ liberties, and of course, that we are curious about and happy for each other.
We are proud to be the ones to give Sziget a home. If you would like, feel free to look around our area, the third district, we welcome you with open arms!
Kind regards,
dr. László Kiss Mayor of Óbuda Békásmegyer

The broad repertoire of this Hungarian brass band spans the hits of the sixties and seventies, the best-known film music and the latest chart-toppers. The walking big band speaks to the hearts of Sziget-dwellers – leave your cares behind and let the magic of brass seep into your soul.
7-12 AUGUST
CLOSE-ACT (NL): BIRDMEN
Huge illuminated creatures roam the streets. Their movement and colours move in sync as if they were programmed for a mission. Their illuminated bodies react to their environment. They are looking for other species from out past but bring us closer the future at the same time.
7-12 AUGUST
BRINCADEIRA (E): MËRØGRÅD / VÊRTICAL
Mërøgråde is a show inspired by evolution and the constant development driven by the speed of our world. Musical creation unfolds into a captivating spectacle emanating a distinctive magnetism that is in perfect harmony with the audience, while Vêrtical is born from the idea of transmitting the beauty that lies in the city of Barcelona through movement and sound. The city is in a constant search of reality, and helps us understand that our life should be an exercise in improvisation.
7-12 AUGUST
GRANDE CANTAGIRO BARATTOLI (I)
Get ready to listen to timeless melodies, witness wild acrobatics, enjoy work stories and
hear distant sailors’ songs by this lovely puppet band. Savour the flavours of Southern Italy, tarantella, Irish polkas and tavern songs.

7-12 AUGUST
WORKING BOYS CLUB (UK): SERVING SOUNDS
Have some fun with this multi-sensory sound installation that serves bass not beer, and that creates connections through music. You’ll find ordinary items you’d usually expect to find at a bar, like glasses, beermats and the odd bit of change. At Serving Sounds, these items when touched create a groove, a sound, maybe of strings, a snare, a guitar, or synths.
7-12 AUGUST
LADINAMO (E): MUSIC ON CYCLES
A unique band on wheels, breaking the mould. LaDinamo performs a high-voltage moving concert and a frenetic street party to the rhythm of funk.
8-11 AUGUST
DUNDU (D)
The three members of the DUNDU family blend into the crowds at Sziget – while the smallest puppet is easily able to interact with visitors, the largest member of the clan stands out a mile away. Will you be able to meet them all?
7-12 AUGUST
SARRUGA (E): KREMAH / HANNAVAS
During the afternoons, the animals of the savannah come to life as giant giraffes and elephants block the way, dazzling visitors with both their visual appeal and sheer size. As the evening falls, huge dragons emerge from below ground to roam the island.
Instagram content? TikTok video? BeReal? Reach out to us to ensure you stand out from the crowd with your creative giant bubble content! When you see our colourful bubbles from afar, you’re getting close – come and be a kid again for a few minutes!
8-11 AUGUST
SPIELMASCHINE (A): BASS KITCHEN
Recreated from the remains of fallen companions, the almighty dishwasher was resurrected with the power of hardcore and something truly unique was born. All hail the Spielmaschine!

Festipay: Our cashless system is quick and convenient. You can pay by card, mobile, smartwatch or your wristband. The chip integrated into your wristband can be topped up with money at Festipay Top-up Points any time or online via your Festival Account.
At The Island of Freedom, everyone can party safely. For more details, check the Szitizen Care info on page 66.
HOW TO GET TO SZIGET?
Sziget Boat Service: A comfortable and fast service runs from Jászai Mari Square every day. Travel for free with your Sziget CityPass by Budapest Card.
Taxi: Choose one of our official partners: BOLT or Főtaxi. Find the taxi ranks of both service providers at the K bridge, and BOLT will bring you even to the H bridge entrance.
wigo carsharing: Drive easily with our official carsharing partner and park in the dedicated wigo parking lot by the H bridge! Register and download the app.
Bicycle and scooter: You can roll up directly to both entrances on the bike path
along the Buda side, where you can store your own bike or Lime scooter for free in the designated bicycle storage.
Car: You cannot enter the festival by car and there are only a few parking spaces available, so we recommend choosing another transport option. If you are coming by car, buy one of a limited number of H terminal parking tickets.
Airport transfer: If you have a Sziget CityPass by Budapest Card, you can take a free bus service from the airport straight to the entrance of the island and back! You can also use the airport transfer service by MiniBUD (ticket should be purchased separately).
Transfer bus: End of party? Hop on a transfer bus at H bridge exit to Margit híd, where you can change to public transport.
Public transport: The easiest way to get to Sziget is via the H5 HÉV, the green suburban railway trains leaving from Batthyány tér and Margit híd. Your stop to get off (and on) is Filatorigát. You can also take the HÉV to get home late at night. With a Sziget CityPass by Budapest Card, you can travel on the HÉV for free.
Have fun!
