Nyobi Boddie (she/ her) (Black Lillie-Anne) is a sophomore musical theater major from West Orange, NJ. This is her first production at the Department of Drama and she is honored to have worked with this incredible company. She is very grateful for the love and support from her peers, instructors, friends, and family.

Annie Comegno (she/ her) (White Lillie-Anne) is a sophomore acting major from Moorestown, NJ. This is her first production at the Department of Drama and she is honored to have worked with this incredible company. She is especially thankful for the amazing creative team that has supported her throughout this journey. Ragan Darmody-Latham (she/they) (White Marie) is a sophomore acting major from Syracuse, NY. Barbecue is her first production at the Department of Drama and they are very excited and honored to have worked on this incredible show with these incredible people. She would like to thank the cast and creative team, her professors, and her family for their love and support during this show.

Maeve Doody (she/ her) (White Adlean) is a junior acting major from Oak Park, IL. She is honored to be part of this exciting show alongside an incredibly talented and dedicated team. This is her second Syracuse University Department of Drama mainstage production, as she was also part of the Department’s run of Cymbeline last spring (Jupiter/Roman Captain, u/s Imogen/Queen), directed by Chris Albright-Tufts. She would like to thank her parents and the rest of her family for their ongoing support and is beyond lucky and grateful to have several of them in the audience for this production (Special shoutout to her Mom, Dad, Aunt Cynthie, Uncle Jim, and her cousin Katie).

Seamus Doyle (he/him) (White James T) is excited to be making his Department of Drama mainstage debut after performing previously in Dealing Dreams (Black Box Players). He is from Boston, MA, and is grateful to join the Barbecue team!

Adeera Harris (Black Marie) is a sophomore musical theater major from Chicago, IL. Adeera is very excited to participate in such a thought provoking play that shines light on many ideas society decides

to ignore. For Adeera, tackling this invigorating material has cultivated and expanded great skills that she is excited to bring along with her as she continues her journey in her educational and professional career in the performing arts.

Avery Larson (she/ her) (u/s White LillieAnne) is a sophomore acting major from Snohomish, WA. Barbecue is her first understudy position within the Department of Drama. She would like to thank her family, friends, teachers, and the company of Barbecue for their good vibes and support.

Kari Lynn Miller (she/ her) (u/s White Marie, u/s White Adlean) is a sophomore acting major from Los Angeles, CA. This is her first mainstage production at the Syracuse University Department of Drama. She is excited and grateful to have had this opportunity to explore the world of Barbecue and work with such a wonderful team.

Morgan Perry (she/ her) (Black Barbara) is a junior musical theater major in the Syracuse University Department of Drama. She studied abroad in London last semester as a

part of the Department’s Acting at Shakespeare’s Globe program and is excited to be back in Syracuse. This is her second mainstage production, following Sender directed by Terrence Mosley last spring. Morgan would like to thank her friends, family, and Department of Drama for their support and love, and she hopes you enjoy the show!

Tobias Rytting (he/ him) ( Black James T ) is a sophomore musical theater major from Houston, TX. He is really excited to be in his first play and second mainstage show at the Department of Drama.

Dani Saril (she/her) (u/s White Barbara) is a sophomore musical theater major from New Rochelle, NY. She is thrilled to perform in her first mainstage production with the Department of Drama. She sends her love to her wonderful friends and family who have supported her along the way. @danisaril

Haley Thompkins (she/her) (Black Adlean) is a sophomore acting major from Cerritos, CA. She is honored to be returning to the Storch stage after having just made her Department of Drama debut in Failure: A Love Story this past fall. Working alongside this creative team has been an absolute dream come true and she hopes to continue to tell stories like this in her career.

Franco Tomaino (he/ him) (u/s White James T) is a sophomore actor/singer from Wethersfield, CT. This is his first Department of Drama production as well as his first time understudying in a show. Franco could not be more grateful for the support and encouragement of the cast, creative team, and directors throughout the entire rehearsal process. You can see him as Lorenzo in the Department of Drama’s upcoming production of Melancholy Play: A Chamber Musical or on the 21st season of American Idol. Rileigh Very (she/her) (White Barbara) is a junior musical theater major from Pittsburgh, PA. At the Syracuse University Department of Drama, Rileigh was previously in ID as a writer, actress, and choreographer of the devised film piece. She also played Mama Corin/Ensemble in the Department of Drama’s production of As You Like It. Rileigh was recently seen in her first professional production as a Swing in the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production of The Little Mermaid . She is extremely excited to be playing White Barbara in Barbecue and sends a big thank you to everyone involved in the project.

Malaika Wanjiku (u/s Black Lillie-Anne, u/s Black Barbara) is a native Kenyan and is so thrilled to be a part of this project. Her favorite roles include Bruce/Hortensia in the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production of Matilda the Musical, Jacques in As You Like It, Penelope Pennywise in Urinetown, and Paulette in Legally Blonde When she isn’t singing, acting, or dancing, she is probably playing golf, making eggs, or reading. ARTISTIC TEAM

Izmir Ickbal ( Scenic Designer ) is a multidisciplinary theater designer who currently serves as an assistant professor of theater design and technology in the Department of Drama. He has also previously taught at Alfred University, St. Bonaventure University, and Southern Connecticut State University. Ickbal has designed more than 60 productions locally, regionally and internationally, at large theater spaces such as the Mark Taper Forum for Center Theater Group in Los Angeles; the iconic Auditorio de Tenerife in Spain; at premier national venues in Singapore such as the Esplanade Concert Hall and the National Gallery of Singapore; at the tiniest off-off-Broadway spaces the size of a postage stamp such as Theater C at 59E59 theaters in New York City; and to bustling community outdoor audiences with the Elm Shakespeare Company in Connecticut. Others include the Classical Theatre of Harlem, Company One Theater Boston, The Tank, BRIC House, New York Theater Workshop, Dixon Place, National Black Theatre, LAByrinth Theatre Company, Kitchen Theater Company, Redhouse Performing Arts Center, The People’s Theatre Project, and Theater for a New Audience. As a designer and artist, Ickbal aims to give voice to the under- and/ or misrepresented, seeks to de-colonize euro-centrism in theater, and believes theater is for all. He is interested in reclaiming the narrative of cultural evolution in cultures and societies

that have hitherto been perceived as primitive, crude, and inferior. In 2019, he received nominations for Best Scenic Design at the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards and the Elliot Norton Awards in Boston. Amaan Khan (he/him) (Costume Designer) is a senior theater design and technology major from Benton, ME. This is Amaan’s second time designing costumes for a Syracuse University Department of Drama mainstage production. Previous credits include costume design on Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (director Puaseisei Patu-Tanielu), costume design on Lungs (director Maxwell Evans), costume/scenic design on Eurydice (director Savannah Devlin), and costume design on As You Like It (director Rodney Hudson). Sarah Schultz (she/her) (Lighting Designer ) is a senior theater design and technology major with a concentration in lighting design and a minor in information management and technology through the I-School. Kevin O’Connor (Sound Designer) is currently in his 14th season working for Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a B.A. in music in 2008. Most of Kevin’s sound design credits have been with the Department of Drama over the past decade and some of his favorites are Bright Half Life (2021), Romeo and Juliet (2020), Good Kids (2019), We Are Proud to Present... (2019), The Baltimore Waltz (2018), Laura and the Sea (2016), A Flea in Her Ear (2016), The Spitfire Grill (2016), Measure for Measure (2015), and Stepping Out (2014) Kevin also designed Danny, King of the Basement, Miss Electricity, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama Bank of America Children’s Tour. Besides sound design, Kevin has also worked as the A1 position, controlling the audio console/live mixing most of the musicals over the past 13 years for Syracuse Stage and the Department of Drama including Disney ’ s The Little Mermaid, Matilda the Musical, Disney’ s Beauty and The Beast, The Last Five Years, Elf the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Next to Normal, The Wizard of Oz, Ring of Fire, Berlin to Broadway, Mary Poppins, Nine , The Spitfire

Grill, Peter Pan, Kiss Me, Kate, Avenue Q, Hairspray, Parade, Spring Awakening, Seussical, Violet, Irving Berlin’ s White Christmas, Merrily We Roll Along, Quilters, The Cradle Will Rock, and Cabaret. He was also able to work as the A1 for Thoughts of a Colored Man during its Syracuse Stage run before it moved to Broadway.

Shannon Lamb (she/her) (Associate Director) is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association. Her most recent roles include Bertha, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and Rachel Twymon Sr, Common Ground Revisited (Huntington Theatre). Selected theatre credits: Letters to Kamala (WAM), Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (UMASS Theater), It Happened in Little Rock, Because of Winn Dixie (Arkansas Repertory Theatre), Temptation in Pendemoniun (Cherry Lane Theatre), NYC (world premiere); Building The Wall at Academy of Music (rolling world premiere); Jar the Floor, Gee’s Bend, Mary Poppins, and The Full Monty at Arkansas Repertory Theatre; Smokey Joe’s Café, Little Shop of Horrors , and Annie at Murray’s Dinner Playhouse. Carrie DeGraw (Casting Associate) is a senior theater management major from Union Springs, NY. During her time at Syracuse, she has been the Department of Drama’s casting associate, as well as a production assistant for the Department and Syracuse Stage. Previously, Carrie was a management intern at Jermyn Street Theatre in London, England, and the development apprentice at Theatre Aspen in Aspen, Colorado, where she currently is working as the management & board coordinator and apprentice program coordinator.

Amani Dorn (Voice and Dialect Coach ) is an actor/singer/dancer/ teacher from Austin, TX, currently residing in Atlanta, GA. She received an M.F.A. in acting from the University of California, Irvine, and has 18 years of professional experience in performance, teaching, and coaching. She got her start performing in musicals in Austin while an undergrad at the University of Texas and has since performed and coached with and for actors all over the world. While pursuing her M.F.A., she was introduced to Knight-Thompson Speechwork and Fitzmaurice Voicework and has since pursued both certifications and continues her career as a dialect coach. Blake Segal (Voice and Dialect Coach) is an actor and dialect coach, and he is delighted to return to Syracuse University’s Department of Drama. Dialect coaching credits include NYC: Ensemble Studio Theatre, New Georges, The Araca Project, Fault Line Theatre; Regional: Syracuse Stage, Geva Theatre Center, Berkshire Theatre Group, Two River Theater, PlayMakers Rep, Cleveland Musical Theatre, Luna Stage, Passages Theatre, and Walkerspace at SoHo Rep; Educational: Yale School of Drama, Fordham, Columbia, Syracuse, Kean, and Stella Adler. Blake currently serves on the voice/verse faculty of Syracuse University’s Department of Drama. As an actor, he has performed on film and television, off-Broadway, in major regional theaters across the country, and on the national tour of Mary Poppins. Stephen Cross (Movement Coach) is an associate professor of movement at Syracuse University. He is the artistic director of Building Company Theater, based in Syracuse, and the founding artistic director of the Irondale Ensemble Project Canada based in Nova Scotia. Recent productions with Building Company Theater include Fragile White Guy and Immigration Dialogue, and in October, 2020, he guided the development and presentation of a new work titled Hypothetical News Magazine. Additionally, with Building Company he has partnered with several

community organizations to develop arts based programs for their constituents. Most recently he built an arts centered curriculum for Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center in partnership with the iApologize Foundation.

Tess Vocalina (she/her) (Stage Manager) is junior stage management major from Orange, CT. Department of Drama credits include stage manager for Movie Night (studio project), assistant stage manager for In Love and Warcraft (mainstage), and The

Matchmaker (mainstage). She recently served as the assistant stage manager and assistant company manager for Cortland Repertory Theatre for the entirety of their 50th anniversary season as well as the stage management intern for Syracuse Stage’s Somewhere Over the Border. Tess would like to thank this incredible company for their collaboration, communication, and wonderful energy throughout this process. Gilbert McCauley is presently a professor in the Department of Theater at the University of Massachusetts. He has served as the produc-

ing artistic director of the Oakland Ensemble Theatre, resident director at Rites and Reason Theatre, as an acting company member of the Rep-

ertory Theatre of St. Louis, and he is a former participant in the New York Drama League’s Directors Project. He has also served on the theater faculties at University of California at Berkeley, California State University at Dominguez Hills, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Rhode Island College, and University of Rhode Island at Kingston. Mr. McCauley has directed Off-Broadway and at regional theaters around the country including Arena Stage, Arkansas Repertory Theater, Goodman Theatre, New Century Theatre, Old Globe Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights Horizons, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Syracuse Stage, and the National Theatre of Ghana. Ralph Zito (he, him) is in his thirteenth year as chair of the Department of Drama. He came to Syracuse University from the Juilliard School Drama Division, where he had been a teacher and director from 1992 to 2010 and chair of the Voice and Speech Department since 1999. He was a director and adjunct lecturer in the Barnard College Theater Department from 2006 until 2010 and has been a guest artist at training programs across the country, including the Old Globe in San Diego, The University of Texas at Austin, and the Academy for Classical Acting in Washington, DC. Directing credits for the Department of Drama include: The Spitfire Grill, As You Like It, Gruesome Playground Injuries, and The Aliens. He has served as a voice, text or dialect consultant for numerous professional productions both on and off-Broadway, including: The Light in the Piazza; Awake and Sing!; The Herbal Bed; Mrs. Klein; The Fiery Furnace; The Time of the Cuckoo (Lincoln Center Theatre); Tongue of a Bird; The Merchant of Venice (New York

Shakespeare Festival); The Pitchfork Disney (Blue Light Theatre Company); Birdy (The Women’s Project); The Model Apartment (Primary Stages); the New York premiere of Tony Kushner’s SLAVS! (New York Theatre Workshop); and The African Company Presents Richard III (The Acting Company). His regional theater credits include numerous productions at The Shakespeare Theatre and Arena Stage in Washington, DC; Syracuse Stage; Baltimore CENTERSTAGE; Hartford Stage; and the McCarter Theatre, among others. A former touring member of The Acting Company, he served as artistic associate of The Chautauqua Theatre Company for seven years and was a member of the Board of Directors of The American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) for six years. He is a graduate of Harvard University, The Juilliard School, and the American Center for the Alexander Technique. He was recently awarded the prestigious Juilliard President’s Medal in recognition of his contributions to both Juilliard and to the broader performing arts community.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAMA

Part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, the Syracuse University Department of Drama offers degree programs in acting, musical theater, theater design and technology, stage management, and theater management

utilizing conservatory-style training in a university setting and in collaboration with Syracuse Stage. With much appreciation, the Department of Drama wishes to acknowledge the valuable contribution of the Syracuse Stage staff.
