Welcome to CIWEM’s 2024 Consultants and Contractors File

Part of CIWEM’s vision is to build connections that inspire widespread, impactful water and environmental solutions, writes Rachael Bliss

THE SCALE OF the climate crisis is worsening and none of these challenges can be tackled without an increase in collaborative efforts worldwide. To address these challenges effectively, and at the same time unlock wider opportunities and benefits, we need to understand their complexities and ensure solutions will be effective, compelling and mainstreamed.

“We must build a bigger, more diverse water and environment profession supported and inspired to deliver the best solutions and outcomes, anywhere in the world” (pull quote)

This is where consultants and contractors must rise above the media noise to deliver on the ground, having material impact via successful partnerships that drive innovation and help nature to recover.

We’re delighted that many of these partnerships are born out of our network of nearly 11,500 members via our range of branch activities, professional training and development, and our industry events such as the UDG Annual Conference and the forthcoming Flood & Coast 2024 in June.

As our leaders set targets on emissions reduction, climate resilience and nature recovery and begin to develop implementation policies and plans, demand for solutions will grow considerably.

We must build a bigger, more diverse water and environment profession supported and inspired to deliver the best solutions and outcomes anywhere in the world.

Our Consultants & Contractors file is a valuable platform for companies wishing to promote their nature positive products and services to network, collaborate, connect and share best practice, for people and the planet.

Rachael Bliss is Managing Director of CIWEM.

WATERTIGHT As Environment Agency Property Flood Resilience (PFR) framework providers Watertight design, source, install and maintain bespoke and innovative property flood resilience solutions to both domestic and commercial clients including the EA, local authorities, LLFAs, main contractors, housing associations, communities and individual homeowners, and businesses.

Our end to end service takes account of the person, the property and the flood with a solution designed and delivered within the scope of the industry code of practice. We do not manufacture products but provide an extensive range of solutions from partnering manufacturers, fitted by our own employed installation teams. We are very proud of our reputation for adhering to industry best practice and always act impartially, without favouring any particular supplier of equipment, materials or services.

As per the overriding principles within the PFR industry Code of Practice we always seek to ensure that the specification and deployment of PFR is proportionate to the risk of the property and the resources available, taking into account the requirements of the end user, whilst maintaining a large degree of flexibility and common sense

Watertight work safely and collaboratively with our partners to create a sustainable environment, resilient to the impacts of our changing climate, sharing knowledge and industry best practice. Innovation for Watertight is not just about products but includes people, processes and partnering. We have collaborated with numerous partners including EA, local Authorities, LLFAs, Historic England, National Flood Forum, Flood Re, MDA, NI Rivers, OPW, CIWEM, BSI, product manufacturers and main contractors to overcome the challenges of climate change and flooding, providing practical solutions to individuals, communities, businesses and government.

WSP As one of the world’s leading engineering and environmental professional services consultancies, our technical specialists and strategic advisers bring clarity and vision to complex challenges. We provide innovative solutions for our clients and the communities we serve across the UK, meeting both the needs of today and addressing future challenges.

Today, villages, towns and cities must withstand more than ever before. Population growth puts water infrastructure under pressure, making it hard to balance supply and demand. The climate crisis brings more extreme weather, with frequent heavy rainfall increasing flood risk. We look to use Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to complement, enhance and improve more traditionally engineered approaches.

We are a 750 strong team of experienced water specialists, focussed on planning and designing for your needs.  We take an integrated water management (IWM) approach, to allow our clients to benefit from early engagement and partnership working between water utilities, local authorities, river trusts, and other relevant bodies.

Areas of key expertise include:

• Asset Design

• Asset Management

• Sustainable Water Management

• Strategic Water Advisory
