Dear CIPMA Members,
As we continue to deal with the global pandemic, Canada has reached its first vaccine benchmark of administering 3 million COVID-19 inoculations. With this ever-evolving situation and associated regulations, CIPMA will continue to support our members with near-daily rapid updates and weekly policy round-ups on priority policy developments.
March has been a busy policy month. The carbon tax got the constitutional green light from the Supreme Court of Canada and a surprise endorsement from the American oil lobby. Line 5 has received strong support from the Government of Canada following a federal committee meeting and the appointment of a mediator to settle the dispute between Enbridge and the State of Michigan. No decisions have been made, but we will continue to keep a close eye on this situation and others to ensure you are informed of all relevant policy developments.
We will also continue to monitor all potential opportunities arising from the surplus in electric vehicle investments coming from the federal government of late. Provincial budgets have committed to increasing manufacturing capabilities for electric vehicles, and internationally companies are looking for opportunities to implement electric vehicle charging networks. As the sector prepares for post-pandemic recovery, these are clear signs of the opportunities on the horizon to build diversified client offerings at retail sites.
As restrictions loosen throughout the country in the coming months, we understand that our top priority must remain the safety of your retail site employees, to ensure they are protected while they provide an essential service for Canadians. The gradual easing of constraints and the opportunities that an enviro-economic-driven future present make us optimistic for the rest of what 2021 can offer our members.
