Our specific goals include: Ensuring that independent fuel marketers thrive and have the opportunity to earn a fair and reasonable return that is proportionate to their business risk and capital investment, and ensuring that Canadian consumers and independent fuel marketers have access to a competitively priced and readily available supply of fuel products in all regions of the country.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT JENNIFER STEWART | PRESIDENT & CEO
Dear CIPMA Members, It has no doubt been an eventful and likely stressful few months. As we enter August, we are seeing volumes start to climb back up across the country, and more Canadians are packing their bags to head to their cottages and go on road trips. As an association we will be launching a virtual conference this fall, and a new podcast series that will feature our members and industry insiders as guests. Our goal for the podcast will be to provide timely and insightful analysis of the industry and its key players on a regular basis to our members. Sponsorship opportunities are available and we are booking guests into October. Our government relations activities remain active. We are engaged with various provinces and the federal government as we support our members and ensure a fair and competitive landscape for operations. As always, please do not hesitate to engage me or our team on any issue or concern that arises. Wishing you and your teams a wonderful August and end of summer.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Stewart President and CEO Canadian Independent Petroleum Marketers Association

AIRLINE BAILOUTS HIGHLIGHT THE DEBATE OVER HOW GREEN THE CORONAVIRUS RECOVERY SHOULD BE What is an airline bailout for? By nature, the bailouts are rescue packages designed to save businesses that are often symbols of national pride, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has placed the aviation sector in mortal peril. But in some cases they are also policy tools, wielded to make these flag carriers shape up and improve their environmental ways. HOW TO REBUILD THE ECONOMY AND CREATE JOBS WITH CLEAN ENERGY INNOVATION The energy sector is reeling under the weight of this pandemic. “Put simply, the COVID-19 pandemic has created the biggest shock to the global energy system since at least World War II, with the drop in energy demand this year set to dwarf that experienced after the 2008 financial crisis.”

POSTHASTE: WELCOME TO OUR WORLD — OIL AND GAS PIPELINES IN U.S. FACE FULL-BLOWN ASSAULT FROM ALL SIDES It’s curious that Warren Buffett chose an old-school sector — natural gas — to come out of his M&A hibernation. On July 6, the Oracle of Omaha’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. bought Dominion Energy Inc.’s natural gas pipeline and storage assets in the United States for US$9.7 billion.
