University of Arkansas
Taking Collection Storage to New Heights With three out of every four books in its collection housed in a library annex, the University of Arkansas needed more than additional storage capacity. The university needed an off-site solution that could protect its growing collection, make efficient use of the facility, and keep materials readily accessible to library staff. Montel HI-BAY shelving allowed the university to take advantage of vertical space, reaching heights of up to 35 feet while supporting up to 800 lb per shelf. Adjustable shelving gives staff the flexibility to reconfigure the system as collection needs evolve, while a wall-length fixed art rack provides dedicated storage for artwork and framed photography. At Ringling College of Art and Design, the library serves a highly creative academic community with collections that need to remain both protected and readily accessible. The college needed a storage approach flexible enough to accommodate different materials and uses while making efficient use of valuable library space. Montel developed a multifaceted, multi-tier storage system that brings together MOBILEX mobile shelving, SAFEAISLE powered mobile shelving, and AETNASTAK cantilever library shelving. Rather than relying on a single storage solution, the installation combines different systems within one cohesive environment—balancing high-density storage, accessibility, flexibility, and design.
