






This ye each o month physic studen impac our Sylvania youth in very important ways We hope to continue to reach kids at this important age in order to help empower teens to learn life skills that will lead them through high school and beyond. Encouraging youth to be aware of their choices will continue to guide them in all areas of their lives. We asked one of our Core Committed students about why they made the choice to be a part of the Core Committed Program. She stated: "I have learned life-long lessons in taking care of my mental, physical, and emotional health all while connecting myself with the community and being a leader"
The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce is appreciative of the grant funded by the Sylvania Area Community Improvement Corporation in the Spring of 2022. The grant monies assisted with the Sylvania Chamber's 5th Annual Here We Grow Again Tree Plant in which the chamber planted 19 new trees in the Sylvania area in recognition of the new businesses that planted roots in 2021. To date, the Sylvania Chamber has planted over 100 trees in the Sylvania area with the assistance of the Sylvania Area CIC
The Sylvania YMCA/JCC Outdoor Adventure Program is a combination of summer camp and summer childcare In 2022, the organization put a focus on social/emotional growth through he additional of a low challenge course; this addition assisted to help round out the camplike experience for participants.
The Sylvania Community Orchestra gratefully acknowledges the contribution of grant funds by the Sylvania Area Community Improvement Corporation in support of the SCO’s March, 2022 Concert. The performance provided for a European tour from the comfort of the beautiful Franciscan Center at Lourdes University. Through the magic of live music, the audience was transported to the court of Russian nobles, experienced the charm of local folk music, and heard highlights from a German opera The Orchestra was greeted by an enthusiastic audience of 200-300, in spite of being scheduled during an uptick in COVID-19. The Sylvania Community Orchestra is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to creating accessible musical experiences in the greater Toledo area. Through free performances, partnerships with youth orchestras, and multi-generational rehearsals, we strive to enrich the cultural life of our community
Sylvan gratefu the SA to expand and upgrade our existing community garden. We purchased four additional raised garden beds, gardening tools, and added new rain barrels
A local Eagle Scout took on the Community Garden as his Eagle Scout Project and assembled the new raised garden beds, cleared out, and prepped for the new garden space and compost area
The newly expanded garden offers opportunities to teach our youth who attend summer camp program where food comes from, and how to successfully grow fresh, healthy produce All produce grown in the garden is given out during our food distribution days to help feed the many families we serve.
Sylvania’s official town crier, Michael Lieber, in authentic garb. Mr. Lieber is a member of the American Association of Town Criers and an honorary member of the Ontario Town Criers Guild and the Australia Town Criers’ Guild The Sylvania Area Community Improvement Corporation granted Mr Lieber monies to improve his uniform that is visible at ribbon cuttings, school events and community events.
