MAREE TAYLOR

Chair, Sydney Fringe

A very warm welcome to the 2025 Sydney Fringe Festival. This year we’re celebrating our sixteenth birthday - an exciting milestone for a festival that began as a grassroots event in the Inner West and has grown into NSW’s largest independent arts festival and a proud NSW Foundation Event.

Over the past year, our team has worked closely with artists, venues, and communities to create a bold and inclusive platform for over 460 productions. This September, we invite you to catch the Fringe feeling. Whether it’s a show that surprises you, a pop-up in an unexpected place, or a buzzing night in one of our curated hubs.

With more than 2,900 artists across 10 hubs, a full family program, major events, and plenty of hidden gems throughout the city, there’s something for everyone.

To our partners, artists, and audiences, thank you. We hope you enjoy an unforgettable Sydney Fringe Festival 2025.

THE HON. JOHN GRAHAM, MLC

Special Minister of State, Minister for Transport, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy

We’re very excited to see the 16th annual Sydney Fringe Festival burst into life in September.

Each year the Fringe brings bold ideas, experimentation and independence to stages, warehouses and laneways right across Sydney.

It’s where emerging artists share the spotlight with established talent and audiences are immersed in originality and artistic freedom.

The Sydney Fringe Festival has become such an important part of our city’s character that the NSW Government has declared it a Foundation Event.

2025 also marks the final program under the leadership of Kerri Glasscock.

We congratulate her on her incredible 12 year run and wish her well in her next contribution to Sydney’s arts community as Executive Director of Create NSW.

THE HON. STEPHEN KAMPER, MP

Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Minister for Lands and Property, Minister for Multiculturism, Minister for Sport

On behalf of the NSW Government, I’m delighted to welcome you to the 2025 Sydney Fringe Festival. Now in its 16th year, Sydney Fringe has grown to become the largest independent arts festival in NSW and a cornerstone of the state’s cultural landscape, with people coming from near and far to experience its diverse and inclusive program of theatre, comedy, cabaret, music, dance, circus, visual arts and family events that ‘Feels like Fringe’.

With more than 490 events across 4 precincts, Sydney Fringe activates our city in a way few other events can, delivering a burst of creative expression and artistic activity that positions Sydney as a global cultural hub, while also providing a significant boost to our creative, night-time and visitor economies.

The NSW Government recognises the importance of events like Sydney Fringe in defining Sydney as a city where art and creativity is celebrated – a city that fosters the sharing of knowledge, ideas and arts practice as part of an ongoing arts and cultural dialogue with the world.

Please enjoy the fabulous program on offer at Sydney Fringe 2025.

SUSAN TEMPLEMAN, MP

Special Envoy for the Arts

Through theatre, dance, music, conversation and even cuisine, for 16 years the Sydney Fringe Festival has been a catalyst for creativity and cultural expression. The Fringe is an opportunity for thousands of local performers to bring their artistry to Sydney’s stages and for audiences to come together and share in their creative adventure. Modern Australia is defined by the diversity of voices and experiences within it – everyone has a story to tell. Ensuring that there’s a place for each and every story is crucial – it’s the central objective of our National Cultural Policy, Revive, and it’s the spirit that animates the Sydney Fringe.

The Festival’s theme this year, Feels Like Fringe, speaks to the deeper impact that art can have. More than just entertainment, when art touches us it goes into our body: we feel it tug at our hearts, rattle our bones, and – if it gets into our soul – it can change who we are.

2025 marked the final Sydney Fringe with CEO and Festival Director, Kerri Glasscock, at the helm. The Sydney Fringe’s standing as a world class fringe festival and a mainstay of Sydney’s cultural life is a tribute to the tenacity and vision that Kerri has brought to the event for more than a decade.

MAYOR DARCY BYRNE

Mayor, Inner West Council

The Inner West is the national capital of independent arts and culture and it makes sense that we partner with the Sydney Fringe to showcase our creative community.

As a founding partner of Sydney Fringe Festival, we have been proud to see the Sydney Fringe go from strength to strength over the past 16 years, becoming the largest independent arts festival in NSW.

With the largest community of creative arts workers and performers anywhere in NSW, Inner West is delighted to also host the Sydney Fringe Festival offices in our Marrickville Town Hall.

Our Creative Town Hall program where we have turned our 7 town halls into free performance venues is going gangbusters and we wish the Sydney Fringe Festival a successful and spectacular season in 2025.

CLOVER MOORE AO

Lord Mayor of Sydney

The City of Sydney is proud to sponsor the 16th annual Sydney Fringe Festival.

Sydney Fringe 2025 features 490+ productions and more than 2,900 artists and is the biggest independent arts festival in NSW.

It takes a lot of talent, long days and nights, and hard work behind the scenes to deliver the festival each year, and it plays a very important role in Sydney's creative sector.

As we all know, culture is crucial to a creative, international city, and Sydney Fringe has always provided a launching pad for many first-time artists. It’s also a backdrop of colour and delight in our streets and theatres as performances activate new and surprising spaces.

I hope you’re delighted, entertained, and challenged as you enjoy your Sydney Fringe experience.

This year, Sydney Fringe turns sixteen. Just old enough to get loud, stay out late and break a few rules - Fringe-style.

What started as a scrappy community festival is now a Foundation Event of NSW, a force across the city, and the largest independent arts festival in the state. We owe much of that to the extraordinary leadership of Kerri Glasscock, who steered us through twelve fearless years and helped shape Fringe into the bold, defiant, brilliantly chaotic celebration it is today.

We’ve weathered it all—COVID, venue shutdowns, gentrification, the rising cost of just about everything. And yet here we are: bigger, broader, and louder than ever. In 2025, we take over 83 venues, stage 490 shows, and spotlight more than 2,900 artists from across Greater Sydney and beyond. We’re stretching into new territory north of the bridge, deepening our roots in Western Sydney, and forging terrific new partnerships across the east and inner city.

It feels like resilience. It feels like resistance. It feels like a city refusing to give up on its artists. It feels like a party you don’t want to miss.

It feels like Fringe.

So from all of us — artists, staff, partners, magic-makers and risk-takers — Welcome to Sydney Fringe Festival 2025.
