The five ‘Ps’ have never been more relevant than now
And by the way, the belief that there’s no new stock available, is one of the great myths of the pandemic.
Toyota CITY EXTRA
By John Roca, Dealer Principal
We’ve become experts at finding new vehicles somewhere in Toyota’s system and we’re even able to celebrate same-day Please, deliveries.set us the challenge.
In the motor industry that’s never been truer than right now. Car buyers are perplexed. On the one hand they’re being told that their current vehicle is worth more than they ever believed possible. But on the other hand, if they were to sell it, they’re finding they have nothing to immediately replace it with. Both situations are a result of the new vehicle stock shortage which has become one of the most obvious ‘urban truths’ of the There’spandemic.greatdemand for good quality used stock to compensate for the lack of new vehicle supply.
Sydney City
The most important consideration in any motor vehicle transaction is the change-over price and it’s the goal of both the buyer and the motor dealer to bridge that gap with the least possible pain.
But if they want immediate replacement, then they need to find the sweet spot where the change- over price is minimized. That’s our skill.
But most families and businesses can’t take advantage of the inflated price of their current vehicle because they need to replace it with something newer. They’re stuck in the middle. That’s where the five P’s come in. Right-now is the time to prepare for a return to normal service which is maybe a year, or 18 months away.
The first stories in this edition of City Extra are dedicated to the new ways we’re looking after our guests’ requirements.
1 | SYDNEY CITY TOYOTA | CITY EXTRA Hello and welcome to City Extra. In life we’re told that Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance – the five P’s.
At Sydney City Toyota we’re helping our guests plan for their next Toyota purchase in a way that’s never been done before. We’re helping them understand that inflated used vehicle prices are a bubble that will burst when new car stock returns. If they can sell now (and we’re buying) and perhaps do without a replacement for a while, then they’re on a winner.

Prior Planning is going to put car owners in the box seat when new car supply ramps up. By choosing and ordering their new car now they’re going to be near the front of the queue when it comes to delivery and their trade-in is still going to be, comparatively, valuable.

‘Unbundling’ has become a buzz word as people look at each of their commitments individually in a bid to find the best way of getting the most out of their money.
When interest rates were low, a lot of our guests saw good value in combining their home mortgage with their car loan in one package – and they were right. But with rates on the rise, it’s a strategy that could well be costing our guests a lot of money.

At Sydney City Toyota, we’re committed to helping our guests achieve the lowest cost of ownership. We’ve produced an overview in this short video, and we’d be happy to help you find a way to finance or refinance your Toyota.
Rising rates make car finance even more critical

Just recently Toyota was named the country’s most trusted car brand – and for the seventeenth year in a row. Readers’ Digest commissioned the annual survey from Catalyst Research, and the results were stunning, not only because of who was there, but who was left out.
They all come to us with one important qualification – they’ve been trained by Toyota, and they have proof of their level of competence on our vehicles.
It’s a huge cause for celebration when it’s confirmed the brand, we represent is one of the most trusted in Australia.
The current quality used car value-bubble has reinforced the value to our guests of having their Toyota serviced and cared for by our dealership. Indisputably, Toyotas brought to us for resale or trade-in are worth more if they have a logbook proving their service history with our dealership, or that of another Toyota franchised dealership. And even if you’re not selling your Toyota, our service provides a peace of mind that enriches your ownership experience. We call it the value chain.
For us it’s a guarantee of competence.
We’re Australia’s most trusted car brand
At Sydney City Toyota, we’re happily replenishing our staff from around the world.
One example is our technician training. Its universal.
Of the top 20 trusted brands, Toyota was the only car company mentioned. We shared the Top 20 accolade with companies like Dettol and Band-Aid and organisations like the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Cancer Council. Stunning was the fact that not one health insurer, electricity retailer or for that matter airline, made it to the top 20.
Retaining value in your Toyota
For the technicians, it’s their passport to be able to work anywhere in the world and a lot of them do just that.
There’s been a lot said recently about the lack of qualified employees in all industries. Staff shortages have affected everyone.

It’s a stellar line up of talent, proof positive that Toyota continues to drive towards a better, greener, future where our cars are loved and enjoyed. This year there’ll be significant upgrades to our sales leading Hilux range.

Then, RAV4, our top selling SUV, gets an across-the-board upgrade with a raft of enhancements to its multimedia, technology, and safety systems.
Our very first all-electric Toyota heads a list of more than six models in the manufacturing pipeline all of which will arrive in our Sydney City Toyota showroom within the next 12 months.
You can’t miss it – its painted orange with a color-coded orange and black interior.
There will be seven vehicles in the Toyota bZ4X range although it remains to be confirmed how many we’ll get.
The Hilux Rogue which along with the Rugged, has become the hero vehicle of the entire range, will arrive with suspension, handling, and braking upgrades.
The newly developed 2.4-litre turbo will replace the well regarded 3.5-litre V6 with a significant increase in torque and gains in fuel economy and emission control.
Our first EV – and many more
We’re going to celebrate the 10th birthday of our Toyota 86 sports car with a limited GR86 Anniversary Edition.
And there’ll be safety upgrades, new wheels, and body color improvements on a variety of models.
Next year we’ll introduce turbocharging to our highly popular Kluger SUV line-up.
Sports enthusiasts are on tenterhooks waiting for the new GR Corolla, the sibling to our sold-out Yaris GR, and there’s now to be a two-seat version as well, weighing 30kgs less. But the big gun for 2023 will be the Toyota bZ4X all electric SUV.
But we’re ready. We’re already installing the charging stations at Sydney City Toyota.

“It happens – but not with us”. No wonder he’s been successful.
Carbiz is a replacement whiz Carbiz, with its Head-Office based in Mascot providing replacement cars to people whose own vehicles are being crash repaired has just, phenomenally, taken delivery of the 600th car in its fleet. And we’re proud to say 300 of them are Toyota, most supplied by Sydney City Toyota.
The Carbiz association has resulted in many of Alex’s customers coming to us to buy a new Toyota after they’ve enjoyed their time in their replacement car.
Alex Rodov co-founded Carbiz just over six years ago to fill a gaping hole in the market to provide people with a professional replacement option in the most stressful of times, immediately after an accident.
Carbiz is a family founded business. With over 70 staff, everyone is like part of the family.
“We set out to provide a professional service to help people back behind the wheel without cost to themselves. All covered by the other party’s insurance and to provide them with a like-for-like replacement,“ Alex said.
“Few people are aware of their rights, especially if they are the not at fault party, and one of them is access to a like-for-like replacement while their vehicle is being repaired,“ Alex said. Until Carbiz came along many people were going without their car or accepting an inadequate substitute or poor service elsewhere.
They’ve just expanded to Queensland with a goal, soon, to go national.
Alex buys up to 20 Toyotas from us each month, most of them hybrid, and we’re forward ordering almost two years ahead so we can always supply. “I’m a huge fan of electrification,“ Alex said.
Alex started with just four vehicles, and we were there from the start.
“Imagine having your seven seat Kluger off the road and being offered a Yaris as a loan car,” he said.
“Its important that our fleet is green and sustainable, so at least 50 percent of my total fleet is Toyota and 95 percent of them are hybrid.”

Fundraising for Beanies for Brain Cancer
Each year on one weekend the NRL sells more than 170,000 beanies on the Foundation’s behalf and raises $3 million to fund research. We made our contribution, and we’ll continue to do each year.
At the end of June, we all wore beanies to Sydney City Toyota.
It was the NRL’s annual Beanies for Cancer Round – a fund raising drive which has raised more than $5 million in the last five years for a very worthy cause. We had a personal reason for contributing. In 2021, we lost a valued colleague and friend Aykut Bayraktar, our operational logistics manager. Aykut was a Sydney City Toyota original - he’d been with us for 34 years. One day at work, he had horrible headaches and blurred vision, and that started a brave fight which, tragically, he didn’t win.
Aykut left a beautiful wife Gosken and their three wonderful children, Maddison, Lincoln & Selin. It was the saddest day of our lives.

partner of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day and Sydney City Toyota has been happily planting seedlings from the very first year. On the last Friday in July our Sydney City team donated 15 native shrubs to Forest Lodge school and 30 volunteers ranging from Kindy to year Six planted them in the school grounds. Each of the kids became honorary ambassadors, presented with a certificate, a bucket hat and gardening gloves in recognition of their participation.
Thank-you so much for helping our school become more beautiful and teaching the students about the importance of trees.”

Sydney City Toyota supports National Tree Day
“We had 32 students, aged between 5 and 12, plant 20 native shrubs for our school garden on National tree Day. Friday 29th of July. The children delighted in planting and watering the plants. Sydney City Toyota provided plants and trowels for the children to use. We are hoping to attract birds to the school as well as mitigating some of the effects of the pollution from the road.
The Sydney City Toyota staff were lovely and friendly and played a quiz with the children. The children loved having them visit. We are currently watering the plants everyday at lunchtime and they are growing well.
Comments from Jo Rawlings (Learning and Support Teacher, Forest Lodge Public School):
It’s more than a happy coincidence that we chose a school at Forest Lodge to celebrate National Tree Day last month. Forest Lodge Public school is in the middle of Sydney City Toyota’s area of sales and service responsibility, but we love the happenstance in the name. National Tree Day is an institution. In 23 years, it has resulted in an incredible 26million trees being planted across Australia – not randomly but in a planned manner that is truly contributing to our Toyotagreen-future.isthemajor
