Welcome to Sydenhams Hire, we hope that our wide range of products and services provide you with the requirements that you need, with a cost-effective, hassle-free experience.

If you’ve not hired from us before, there will be a few formalities.

When you want to hire tools, proof of identity and a deposit is required, usually payable by cash, credit or debit card. The branch staff will explain all requirements.

Regular Customers Sydenhams Hire have numerous regular customers and thousands find that having a trade account is an excellent choice saving you time and money. On hired equipment you don’t need to pay a deposit, thus helping with your cashflow.

If you wish to purchase any item of equipment, we will be pleased to quote you. Please call your local branch for details. A full workshop repair service is available for electrical and mechanical tools.

VAT Prices in this catalogue do NOT include VAT, which is payable in addition. E&OE.

Credit & Debit Card

Opening an Account Opening an account can be organised after completing an application form, please ask your local branch manager who will be pleased to discuss your needs. Simply post an application form or bring it into your local branch, we’ll arrange your account quickly and efficiently.

Deposits If you have an account, you do not need to pay a deposit. If you do not have an account, we require a deposit, usually equivalent to about two weeks hire (or a minimum of £20). You can pay cash, credit or debit card for the deposit and then balance the payment when you return the equipment.

Damage Loss Waiver All hires are subject to Damage Loss Waiver unless you provide us with a current hired in plant insurance certificate prior to the point of hire.

Equipment for Sale & Payment Details

Cash We require a deposit when equipment is hired of normally twice the weekly rate.

At the end of the hire we simply return to you the cash difference between the deposit and the hire charge.

Identification We need two forms of positive identification – a driving licence accompanied with a bank statement or utility bill dated within the last 3 months.

Safety Equipment

For your own protection, and to comply with Health and Safety Regulations, we are required to advise on and supply appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when hiring out tools and equipment.

All our products conform to the latest EN and British Safety Standards.

TERM S & COND IT ION S

Hire Periods – Definitions At Sydenhams Hire, we’re flexible to suit your needs. 4 hours means 4 consecutive hours within a normal working day; 1 day means up to 24 hours; 2 days means up to 48 hours; 3 days means up to 72 hours; 4-7 days means one week including weekends and public holidays.

Advanced Booking Every Sydenhams Hire branch carries large stocks and most products – even unusual ones are readily available. Equipment can easily be booked in advance to save disappointment or delays in your work.

Simply call your local branch.

Delivery Ask at your local branch for delivery requirements. You’ll find it a valuable service and the costs reasonable.

Cleaning

Catalogue Changes and Specifications

You expect to work with clean equipment and so do we… and we’ll normally clean the equipment you return, free of charge. However, we reserve the right to make a charge for equipment returned in an exceptionally dirty state.

Sydenhams Hire reserves the right to amend, alter, increase or decrease the charges in this catalogue as well as add new items or withdraw listed items shown here. All illustrations and technical details shown in the catalogue are intended as a guide only, and may not be identical to the particular equipment available for hire. If details shown here are specifically vital to your hire, please check with your local branch.

Sale or Return It’s important to have enough accessories and consumables ready while you’re working, but you don’t want to buy more than you need.

Sydenhams Hire will provide you with them on a sale or return basis.

You won’t be charged for items you don’t use.

Off-Hire When you return equipment, or have it collected by us, you need proof of return – an official Sydenhams Hire ‘Off Hire Note’. It’s also important if you are giving us off-hire instructions by phone – please be sure to obtain your ‘Off Hire Number’ to avoid misunderstandings.

Many of the machines we hire can be dangerous if used incorrectly.

We will do our best to keep you safe.

As a company we are only too aware of the concerns regarding the environment and health matters. Therefore we strive where possible to offer dust free machines, please ask the hire assistant for information and help in this matter.

Electric Power Tools: We can supply most items in 110 volt and 230 volt.

We strongly recommend the use of a Circuit Breaker with all 230 volt machines. These are available for hire or sale at all branches.

Diesel Engines: Never allow them to run out of fuel, if you do the whole fuel system will have to be expertly bled of air. Check engine oil level daily and top up as necessary.

Protective Clothing: We urge customers to use protective clothing and equipment as and when necessary. Particular consideration should be given to the protection of head, eyes, ears, lungs, fingers, and feet. We will be pleased to supply helmets, goggles, ear defenders, dust masks, gloves and steel reinforced footwear for this purpose.

Hirer’ Responsibilities: These are set out in our Terms and Conditions but broadly speaking any breakdown or breakage due to a defect in our equipment is our responsibility; any other loss, breakage or damage, apart from fair wear and tear, is chargeable to the hirer. Normal maintenance of equipment while on hire (e.g. oil, greasing, and keeping clean) is the hirer’s responsibility.

Identification: Non-account customers will be requested to produce acceptable proof of identity. This will range for example, from a driving licence to a bank reference or utility bill depending on the type and value of equipment hired.

Hand and Arm Vibration: Sydenhams Hire Centres are constantly seeking to upgrade and provide the latest tools designed to minimise the risk of injury from hand and arm vibration. Vibration can cause painful and long term damage to hands and muscles we recommend an on site risk assessment before use of any equipment.

Each machine will be demonstrated to the person receiving it, who will also receive verbal and written instruction in its safe and correct use.

However, the person receiving the equipment should recognise their duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that all such instructions are passed on to other users of the equipment. Employers in particular should be aware of their duty in this respect.
