Sydenham High LIGHTS Autumn 2021

Over the summer, we heard the fantastic news that we have been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag award. This award recognises the excellent work our pupils have been doing in introducing and leading important eco-initiatives, and our commitment to sustainability. In week 2, the Prep School rasied over £200 on Jeans for Genes Day to help adults and children with genetic disorders. Year 3 were lucky enough to take part in an exciting team building afternoon to further strengthen their new friendships and to continue to build positive relationships with all of their peers. Year 3 took part in a range of fun activities which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Reception had a wonderful time at Brixton Windmill learning about the history of the windmill and even had the chance to make flour using traditional methods. They also enjoyed listening to the story ‘Little Red Hen’ and making their own storyboards.

Our year 6 A-D teams took part in netball matches against James Allen’s Prep School and won all four matches! It was their first competitive netball match in almost 18 months and was certainly worth the wait. They showed superb teamwork, excellent passing and defending skills and accurate shooting. What a start to the season!

Pupils in year 4 have been investigating the pitch of a sound by making their own simple instruments using rubber bands, creating high and low pitch, and thinking about how pitch can be changed.
