At Shiloh National Military Park, visitors explore one of the bloodiest early battles of the Civil War. The expansive park preserves battlefields, monuments and historic roads, with annual reenactments in April that bring history vividly to life.

Take a trip to Chickasaw State Park

Chickasaw State Park was named for the Chickasaw Tribe who once inhabited West Tennessee and North Mississippi. The 1,400 acres of land located along the border of Hardeman and Chester Counties. The park is situated on some of the highest terrain in West Tennessee. Of the area’s 14,384 acres of timberland, 1,280 acres are used for recreation. Chickasaw State Park offers various activities for visitors to embark on including more than four miles of easy to moderate hiking trails and bicycle-friendly roads. Guests can utilize the rowboats and pedal boats available for rent on Lake Placid.

Decatur County, Tennessee, known as "The Home of the Tennessee River," offers a quiet, nature-focused getaway with over 50 miles of shoreline. Key attractions include boating, fishing, and camping at Beech Bend Park, along with hunting, golfing at the Tennessee River Golf Course, and local seasonal activities.

Take a trip to the Rockabilly Murals

First began in 2009, Rockabilly Murals I & II were painted by artist Brian Tull to celebrate McNairy County’s rich musical heritage and the place it holds in music history. Situated between Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, and Jackson, Tennessee, the home of Carl Perkins, McNairy County became known as the “Place where legends meet” thanks to a chance meeting of Presley and Perkins at the Bethel Springs High School in the 1950's. These murals are perfect for photo ops and selfies.

The Rockabilly Mural I is located at 124 W Court Avenue, while the Rockabilly Mural II, which was painted in 2012, is located at 100 North Front Street, both in Downtown Selmer, Tennessee.

Take a trip to Jackson

Jackson is a favorite for those who love both the bustling activity of a mid-size city and appreciate the qualities of a nearby rural environment. Located halfway between Memphis and Nashville conveniently on Interstate 40, and in the heart of the Americana Music Triangle, Jackson is where country music connected to the blues and the sound of Rock-A-Billy was heard around the world. Also, when you’re in town, be sure to visit Casey Jones Village and Old Country Store.

Hardin County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that ticket sales for the 14th Annual Generals Breakfast at Cherry Mansion have begun. The event will be held on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 9 a.m., on the lawn of the historic home in Savannah. The Cherry Mansion came of note during the Civil War when General Ulysses S. Grant made his headquarters at the home during the Battle of Shiloh. The story goes that General Grant was enjoying breakfast with his staff in the Cherry Mansion, his headquarters, in Savannah, Tennessee when he heard the faint roar of artillery from the fighting at Pittsburg Landing down river; and said, “Gentlemen, the ball is in motion.”

Tickets for the event are $20 each and include the outdoor breakfast catered by Mollie Monday’s featuring hot biscuits, gravy, breakfast casserole, coffee and water and a selection of cherry treats, along with a storytelling program by the attending in character generals. Laissez les bons temps rouler! Downtown Brownsville will come alive with music, food, and festive flair during Mardi Gras – Brownsville Style on Saturday, February 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the historic Court Square.

The free community celebration invites residents and visitors from across West Tennessee to experience an afternoon of shopping, dining, and live entertainment in the heart of Soul Town.

Guests can browse downtown boutiques and specialty shops, enjoy delicious offerings from local restaurants and food trucks, and take in live music throughout the district Brownsville’s rich musical heritage especially its deep blues roots provides the perfect backdrop for a Mardi Gras celebration with a distinct West Tennessee twist Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Mardi Gras attire and join in the festive spirit

Live Music Lineup:

11AM - Simply Leland, a well-loved West Tennessee bluesman, guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his soulful playing and deep roots in the region’s rich musical culture. His presence helps celebrate Brownsville’s identity as a hometown of the blues, connecting the sounds of today to the traditions that helped shape the music.

1PM - Les Kerr, part of Nashville’s musical fabric and originally from “Mardi Gras country,” draws upon his Gulf Coast and New Orleans upbringing for his upbeat Fat Tuesday shows.

Local favorites Dave Thomas and Bobby Stokely bring their dynamic musical blend to Livingston’s Soda Fountain and Grill as part of Brownsville Mardi Gras festivities. Both artists are established performers on the West Tennessee live music scene, frequently appearing together at regional venues and events, including Brownsville and Jackson area stages. They are known for delivering engaging, energetic sets that span blues, roots, and classic covers, creating a lively atmosphere that keeps crowds entertained Brownsville’s rich musical heritage especially its deep blues roots provides the perfect backdrop for a Mardi Gras celebration with a distinct West Tennessee twist Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Mardi Gras attire and join in the festive spirit

Senator Page Walley will host the United in the Storm event on Sunday, March 1 at the McNairy County AG Event Center. The event, which starts at 2PM is a district wide celebration that will honor those who helped the region recover from the recent winter storm that impacted thousands of residents and businesses.
