Walking into the Olympic venue and wearing the Swiss uniform is probably the moment every athlete dreams of. To know that you represent your country, your teammates, your family, your supporters is humbling and empowering at the same time.

Do you think the Olympic experience changed your relationship with pressure, ambition, or resilience ? Absolutely. The Olympics test you like nothing else. You learn that pressure is not your enemy. Pressure is a privilege. It means you care. I became more grounded, more confident in who I am as an athlete and as a person. It taught me to handle setbacks with perspective and to celebrate small victories along the way.
Rowing is an incredibly demanding discipline — physically, mentally, and financially. What are some of the challenges athletes face in sustaining a career at this level ? Rowing is a sport of passion, not profit. Many athletes combine work, studies, and training to make it possible. Finding sponsors and supporters who believe in the long - term journey is essential. Sono diventata più radicata, più sicura di me stessa come atleta e come persona. Mi ha insegnato ad affrontare le battute d’arresto sotto una diversa prospettiva, guardando avanti, ed a festeggiare le piccole vittorie conseguite via via lungo il percorso.
Il canottaggio è una disciplina che richiede un impegno incredibile, fisico, mentale e finanziario. Puoi dirmi quali sono le sfide che gli atleti devono affrontare per riuscire a portare avanti una carriera a questo livello ? Il canottaggio è uno sport di passione, non di profitto. Molti atleti lavorano, studiano e si allenano, tutto questo insieme, per riuscirci. Trovare sponsor e sostenitori che credano in un percorso a lungo termine è essenziale. È anche per questo che ho dato vita al mio « 100 Club », per creare una community che condivida con me questo sogno olimpico. What does a typical day look like for you, between training sessions, work, and recovery ? Most days start early, around 6 a.m. with the first training session on the water. After an early lunch and a recovery nap, I dedicate part of my day to working at the office — meetings, client calls, or marketing projects. Then, it’s back to the gym for another training block in the afternoon. Evenings are for recovery, nutrition, and sometimes, simply to breathe. The flexibility given by Switzerland Sotheby’s International Realty allows me to pursue my Olympic dream while staying connected to people, design and beautiful properties. It’s a combination that inspires me every day.

Layla, you’re one of roughly 7,000 year - round residents of the Gstaad – Saanen region. Born and raised in Geneva, you first discovered Gstaad as a child, spending weekends and holidays here — and later, during your winters at Le Rosey’s mountain campus. After high school, life took you across the Atlantic for your studies, first in Boston and then in New York, where you built a successful career in the jewelry sector. But after more than two decades in the U.S., you made what you call “ one of the best decisions ” of your life : returning to Switzerland and settling full time in Gstaad.

What inspired you to trade the Big Apple for the serenity of Gstaad ? I began to miss Switzerland and the quality of life we enjoy here. New York is an amazing city and still my favorite in the world, but life there moves at 200 kilometers an hour, and after a while, I felt it was time to slow down. I enjoyed studying and working in the U.S., and it definitely expanded my horizons both personally and professionally, but now Gstaad feels like the perfect base and a wonderful place to raise a young child.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about living here year - round ? People are often curious about what life is like during the off - season and whether it ever feels too quiet or lonely. In reality, for many of us who live here, autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year. The colors are spectacular, and it’s a wonderful season to slow down, go mushroom picking for exemple, and reconnect with nature and yourself.

Gstaad is known as one of Switzerland’s most exclusive property markets — what, in your view, makes it so unique? Gstaad is indeed very exclusive, largely because of the strict laws that protect the region and the fact that new construction is extremely limited and highly controlled. There is strong demand and few properties for sale on the market, which has been steadily driving property prices up over the years. Owners in Gstaad hold on to their homes and pass them down to the next generation, making it difficult to meet demand. When a property does come up for sale, especially a secondary home in a prime location, it sells very quickly.
