Springdale Trial Site Map

Page 1

Purpose

This site was designed by RAFF Group and S&W Seed Company to evaluate and demonstrate a wide range of species and varieties that have the potential to boost forage and animal production on local farms. As the site was planted in autumn, it focuses on species that grow over winter and spring to provide quality feed for grazing animals and/or to produce hay or silage. Some blends can also be used as break-crops in cropping rotations to improve the nitrogen and organic matter content, and structure of soils.

Background

This site was drilled on 18 April 2024 with the S&W Seed Company trial drill.

Most species in the site are annual crops (e.g. oats), but perennial pastures species are also included (e.g. lucerne, chicory, tall fescue). Some species are annuals that can regenerate in following years (e.g. medics, Balansa clover).
