Fine Lawn

Fine Lawn Seed Mixture is perfect for lawn enthusiasts as well as bowling greens and croquet lawns.

• This mixture does not like too much foot traffic across the lawn.

• The mixture has ultra fine leaves which form a dense lush bright green lawn.

• Requires a fine, firm seedbed and soil. temperatures of 12+ degrees for germination. Optimum pH is 5-6 but grows in a wide range of soils.

Purity Granular Organic Soil Conditioner

Purity is an organic mini grade soil conditioner, made from plant extracts, which is designed to purify the soil before the on-set of spring growth and autumn/winter shut down. The aim of this product is to provide the soil with a building block of organic matter, which will stimulate all available nutrients to release steadily over a 6-8 week period whether retained or applied by use of an NPK fertiliser.

Benefits of Organic Plant Extract:

• Promotes establishment of Fescues, Bents and Rye grasses.

• Improves root mass and increases nutrient uptake.

• Increases plant tolerance to stress conditions.

• Encourages faster grow-in and establishment of new grass seedlings.

• Increase resistance to and speedier recovery from disease.

• Maintains plant count entering into a dormant period.

• Acts as a bio-stimulant, which will enhance microbial activity.

• Can be applied to all turf, greens, tees, fairways, sports pitches and general amenity turf.

• Suitable for all types of soil.

Application:

This product can be used all year round but we recommend application in early spring and early autumn/winter. We recommend you apply Purity evenly over the turf at 30gms/ m² (300kg/Ha). To enhance and start the process we recommend this product to be watered in for 5-10 minutes. This is designed to wash the micro fine plant extracts into the turf and start the break down process.

Typical Analysis:

20kg bag will treat 660m² of turf.

Granular Fertiliser

Slow Release 15-5-10 Velscape

15-5-10 is a slow releasing formulation giving an all-round feed for up to 3 months. Ideal for use throughout the main growing season. 3 phased nitrogen release includes Nutrilong V90.

Velscape fertilisers are designed to ensure the rapid and healthy development of turf, trees and shrubs. The carefully formulated range of landscaping fertilisers will help the landscaper match the product to the requirements of the job, resulting in less wastage and greener, healthier plants.

Velvit Essential 9-16-12

High phosphate fertiliser, ideal for pre-seed, pre-turf or overseeding applications. Boosts root development, establishment and disease resistance.

Velvit Standard granular fertilisers are perfectly matched and uniform 2-3mm particles, blended together to give an even spinner throw distance.

For use on larger areas cut above 10mm, where cost effective applications are required, whilst maintaining professional, high quality results.

This range covers the full growing season and supplies all the nutrients required.

Black & Green 12%FE 5%MGO

Black & Green is a powerful granule containing high levels of both iron & magnesium. Its high levels of iron causes moss blackening and intense green-up even at normal application rates. It contains a high level of magnesium which works with the iron to support chlorophyll production. The homogeneous granules mean that an even colour can be achieved when applied at lower application rates.

Black & Green can be applied at any time of year providing there is no frost and provides a typical longevity of 4-6 weeks. Use to maintain rich green turf all year round.

Liquid Fertiliser

Vel-sea 15-0-10+4% Seaweed

15-0-10+4% Seaweed is a high nitrogen and potassium, fast acting liquid fertiliser which contains additional seaweed. The combination of a high concentration of nitrogen and potassium encourages top growth and increases stress tolerance. Seaweed provides an organic source of trace elements in addition to encouraging healthy soil microbiology.

• Seaweed addition to boost health

Vel-sea seaweed extract can improve the health and establishment of turf all year round, with little and often applications prior to the onset of stressful conditions.

The Vel-sea range includes products that contain N-P-K fertilisers with added seaweed extract to work in conjunction with the applied nutrients, keeping your turf healthy, and prepared for the demands of professional turf management.

Application:

Recommended Application Rate: 40-80L/Ha in 300600L/ Ha of water.

24-0-0 Velvit Essential NPK

24-0-0 is a high nitrogen liquid fertiliser that stimulates the turf, encouraging a high amount of top growth. 24-00 is the ideal liquid fertiliser for turf that requires a lot of growth in a short time.

Suitable for spray application across a range of applications from sports turf, lawn care, agriculture and horticulture.

Recommended Application Rate: 40-100L/Ha in 300 to 500L of water.

4-4-12 Velvit Essential NPK

4-4-12 is a low nitrogen, low phosphorus and high potassium fertiliser, that strengthens and increases the hardiness of turf without encouraging unnecessary growth. This product is designed to be applied during stressful periods to improve turf health.

Suitable for spray applications across a range of applications from sports turf, lawn care, agriculture and horticulture.

Recommended Application Rate: 40 - 100L/ Ha in 300 to 500L of water.

16-2-8+4% Seaweed is a specially formulated product with a 8:1:4 ratio providing a balanced feed. Seaweed provides an organic source of trace elements in addition to encouraging healthy soil microbiology.

This mixture will improve the health of turf by increasing stress and disease resistance and by stimulating root growth. The quick-acting source of nitrogen will encourage an instant reaction in the grass generating top growth.

Wetting Agents

YUCCA Wetting Agent

YUCCA liquid concentrate is a natural extract derived from the Yucca Schidigera Plant that grows in the deserts of the Americas. Yucca plants produce high levels of natural surfactants and steroid saponins that enable them to survive in harsh habitats with extreme heat, drought and soil salinity.

Yucca is a natural alternative to synthetic wetters that is completely nonphytotoxic to turfgrass and plants, even when used in hot weather. Add to tank mixes or fertigation systems to enhance water and nutrient uptake, and improve pesticide performance.

Yucca is also an effective organic bio-stimulant that increases water uptake and root growth for better plant quality and stress tolerance.

Application:

Monthly: 18-30L/Ha in 500-1000L/ha of water.

Dry Patch Treatment: 5001000L/Ha diluted 1:1.

RESOLUTE Wetting Agent

RESOLUTE is a leading solution in the prevention and resolution of LDP (Localised Dry Patch) formation that can arise from the breakdown of plant matter, animal sources and critically low soil moisture content.

RESOLUTE Wetting Agent works by reducing the interfacial tension between soil substrates and water.

RESOLUTE Wetting Agent has exceptional penetrating power, allowing water to move through the soil system more effectively than the majority of other wetting agents on the market. Providing a strong defence against Localised Dry Patch.

Application:

10-20L/Ha in 300-900L/Ha of water.

BESTWET Wetting Agent

BESTWET is a non-ionic wetting agent that has been developed for use on amenity grass, golf greens and tees. It is designed to help prevent the occurrence of Localised Dry Patch (LDP) which prevents healthy grass growth.

BESTWET will allow water/moisture to move down deeper into the rootzone by lowering the interfacial tension between water and other substrates. It also enables water to spread out laterally throughout the soil profile giving maximum stress relief to all plants and reducing vital plant count loss.

Non-scorch. Some surfactants can have powerful emulsifying effects on hydrophobic materials - overuse (too often or at too high concentration) can potentially strip away important constituents from the plant and lead to a ‘scorching’ effect,

Application:

Monthly: 20-40L/Ha in 400-800L/Ha of water. Every 90 Days: 50L/Ha in 600-800L/Ha of water.

Cornfield Annual

A very colouful wildflower mixture that can be sown in the spring or autumn and takes little maintenance. Seed can be sown directly on to bare ground or into existing flower mixture.

How to sow your Wildflowers

Step 1:

Site preparation is key. First, you will need to remove all Nettles, Thistles, Docks and Grass and any other weeds. You can spray the weeds using a Glyphosate weed killer or you can pull/ dig them up.

You are aiming to produce a weed free tilth in order to promote healthy germination and zero competition. Weeds and grasses grow much faster than wildflowers and so, will therefore out-compete and eventually take over the wildflowers.

Wildflowers do not like overly fertile soils, so there is no need to add compost. If the topsoil is already very fertile it may be worth removing and replacing with some subsoil.

Cultivate the site to a depth of around 10cm for free draining soil and 25cm for bad draining or compacted soil. This can be done with a fork, rotavator or on large areas, a plough.

Once you are ready to sow, measure the area so you can work out how much seed you will require. Typically this will be between 2g-5g/m².

Step 2:

Sowing is recommended through the Spring months of March and April and then again in August-September which is the natural seeding time. Although you can sow throughout the year, providing you have a good tilth prepared and way to keep the seed bed watered. Make sure to check what type of soil you have and check the PH if you can. Some wildflowers will only grow in certain soils and PH levels. For advice on what kind of soil you have give us a call to speak with one of our advisors.

When sowing your seed, for small areas where you are sowing by hand we suggest mixing the seed with some fine sand in a bucket and then spread the whole mix evenly over the area. This will ensure an even spread of the seed.

Once sown, rake or harrow the area to mix the seed in the soil to approx. 0.5cm in depth. Afterwards, it’s best to roll the area to compact the soil slightly. If it’s a small area, it can be carefully pressed in by standing on the area.

Step 3:

Future Maintenance of your Wildflowers will ensure a happy and healthy bed. Whilst they are low maintenance it is worthwhile putting some time into looking after your wildflower seed bed for best results.

In the first year after sowing, weed control is a priority. If weeds are present they can be controlled by pulling the weeds out by hand or using a hoe, we would not recommend using any weed killer sprays as these will kill the wildflowers too.

You will only see the Annual wildflowers in the 1st year. Unless re-sown.

In the 2nd year after sowing, the companion grass and wildflowers will be established and annual weeds will be out-competed, meaning less maintenance.

Perennial & Biennial plants will be seen flowering in the second year. The Perennials will then flower every year after. The Annual/Biennial plants will be seen if the seeds are distributed after cutting and before removing the cuttings.

Wildflowers should be cut twice a year, once in the spring which should be a very light cut to even out the growing for the flowering season. They should then be cut again in late autumn after all of the plants have produced a seed head. The late autumn cut will help distribute seeds produced by the wildflowers this cut should be done with a topper or strimmer so the seed heads are not mulched as this will defeat the purpose of the cut. The clippings should then be removed from the site and shaken out as best as possible to ensure all of the seeds have dropped onto the ground. This will keep the annual and biennial flowers coming back year after year.

Companion Grass

Mixtures can come ready mixed with wildflower seed for sowing. We suggest a ratio of 80:20grass to wildflowers. The grasses are slow growing and low maintenance and the grasses will not out compete the wildflowers.

Different Types of Wildflowers

Annual- these perform their entire life cycle from seed to flower to seed within a single growing season (mainly Cornfield Wildflowers are annual).

Perennial- they persist for many growing seasons but you will not see them flower in the first season (most Wildflowers are Perennial).

Biennial- they require two years to complete their life cycle, they flower in the second year only. For example Foxglove.

Wildflowers

Sheeps/Salad Burnet

Deep rooting prevents soil erosion. Helps with health and liveweight gain in ruminants. Anti-oxidising, helping with indigestion in horses. Prefers light soils and is drought resistant.

Common Vetch

Nitrogen fixing and improves soil structure.

Winter Hardy and high protein content.

Early and rapid establishment. High nutritional value.

Ribgrass/Plantain

Suits most soils types. High in minerals, especially Copper and Selenium. Increases milk and meat production in sheep and cattle. Reduces effects of internal parasites, increases daily liveweight gain and is very palatable.

Chicory

Sainfoin

Perennial legume suiting limestone, chalk and stony soils. Doesn’t perform well on heavy soils or anything with a pH less than 6.2.

Birdsfoot Trefoil

Nitrogen fixing legume which won’t bloat animals and is Methane suppressing. Produces more Nitrogen than White Clover, but only lasts 3-4 years. Do not overgraze or mow too low (between 5-10cm) – it requires six weeks to recover.

Lucerne/ Alfalfa

Renowned for its slow establishment. High yielding protein forage with low energy levels.

High in minerals including Zinc, Potassium and Copper. Helps reduce effects of internal parasites.

Good tolerance to drought, acidic soils and major pests. Do not allow crown to be taken out (mowing or grazing).

Don’t let it go to flower, it will become toxic and sour.

Nitrogen fixing with long tap roots. Up to 4 cuts a year over 5 years. Can cause bloat in grazing stock. Suited to sandy/free draining soils as it searches out moisture.
