Kathleen and husband Jason Achord enjoy fostering kittens for SAINTS SPCA, a Ponchatoula based nonprofit that specializes in feline rescue. The couple also fosters dogs and puppies for Dante’s Hope Animal Rescue, Dr. Elstrott says, “Please spay and neuter your pets to reduce the overpopulation in our area. I also encourage everyone to adopt, not shop.” She furthers her mission on the board of Tangi Animal Friends which offers low-cost spay/ neuter vouchers and hosts adoption events for dogs from Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control.

Dr. Elstrott is an alumna of the Lousiana School for Math, Science and the Art, LSU College of Agriculture and LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, she served in the US Army Veterinary Corps for three years.

She completed the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association’s Power of 10 program in 2017 and was recently elected as Member-at-Large for the LVMA Board of Directors.

the American population uses some sort of vision correction. So while glasses and contacts are the norm, the depth of knowledge and services offered by Dr. Katie Wonch are not commonly seen.

Dr. Katie’s practice, Infinite Vision, and her highly qualified and trained staff, has grown to provide care with the use of high-tech equipment to individuals of all ages dealing with but not limited to issues ranging from binocular vision disorders and balance problems, to vision-related learning problems and brain injury/concussion recovery.

Vision Therapy for all ages is what Infinite Vision does best. A new addition to the practice is sports vision training in tandem with Limitless Performance Training. Vision plays a key role for any athlete that participates in a complex skill level sport. With vision training, athletes will accumulate additional information that correlates to their ability to react to a continuously changing environment and avoid injury-causing collisions.

Athletes with vision training have an 80% reduction in concussion rates according to recent studies at University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Katie uses the Senaptec Sensory Station to evaluate and train athletes. The Senaptec Sensory Station is a state-of-the-art sensory evaluation and training device designed to assess the visual and sensory performance of the modern athlete. Each athlete is tested on ten sport related visual and sensory performance skills. Dr. Katie then uses the Senaptec Sensory Performance Report which identifies areas for improvement to recommend a course of action for a personalized training program.

The Senaptec Sensory Station is currently implemented in training programs within the MLB, NFL, Olympics, College Basketball and many other professional sports training programs. “I wanted to offer the Northshore superior quality sports vision training to local athletes. Partnering with Limitless Performance Training has allowed me to train athletes in a professional athletic environment.”

HOSPICE CARE IS given to terminally ill individuals who can no longer benefit from curative treatment. Hospice brings hope of a quality life during this stage of advanced illness and provides the opportunity to receive endof-life care in a comfortable, homelike setting.

The Richard Murphy Hospice House (RMHH) is located on the edge of beautiful, historic downtown Hammond. Three individual patient suites provide residents with a home, care givers, medical equipment and other basic needs. A certified hospice agency provides their hospice care in the home.

518 patients from 12 months to 101 years old and their families have been served since their opening in August 2007. Anntoine Marketing created a living logo for RMHH to continue to add symbols that represent their patients.

The mission of the RMHH is to provide a safe and comfortable haven for hospice patients who are without a primary caregiver, and/or at risk in their current home environment, if such home exists at all.

After a patient is admitted to a Certified Hospice Provider and meets the criteria for admission into the Hospice House, there is absolutely no fee for residency. The Hospice House was built and operates through fundraising efforts such as the Hospice Gala, memorial gifts, planned giving, and community donated cash and services. These donations along with volunteers ensure the perpetuity of the house. No Medicare, Medicaid or Insurance funds are received.

The 35th annual Gala is April 6, 2019, at Chappapeela Sports Park with the theme "Follow the Yellow Brick Road, Let's get Wicked."

Owner Bri Steilberg feels strongly in giving children the freedom to be themselves and develop a strong sense of independence. “It’s wonderful to see a child learn to care for themselves and their surroundings whether that be cleaning up a spill or composting the leftover food at our school."

Children learn independently at their own pace and nurturing professionals act as a guide to make sure all areas of the curriculum are covered. Steilberg is happy to share that they’ve begun a new music program and emphasizes that getting children involved with their world is a top priority. “One of my favorite activities for students is working in our garden. They love the hands-on experience and watching it grow.”

The multi-age, three year Primary program is also unique in that the younger children look to the older ones for social and academic guidance and older children develop a high level of selfesteem and a sense of responsibility.

Kinder Haus programs develop the whole child on his way to becoming a good citizen of the world, reaching his full potential and becoming a life-long learner.

Mary Thomas knows: hugs, kisses, games, comfy beds and turkey bacon. Mary’s Bed and Biscuit keeps the tails wagging with expert grooming, boarding, daycare and tasty treats. Mary even makes her own snacks and dog food with chicken, eggs and other whole foods. You can see the joy on the faces of her canine guests from her sweet Facebook posts and feel the mutual love between her and her four-legged pals. Mary has a loyal following of dog parents too, with rave reviews about her attentiveness and personal care.

Mary says her first priority is guests’ safety and comfort. “I only hire highly experienced groomers who love what they do.” And that love shows in the details. “We pamper pets and have fun getting them all dolled up with complimentary nail polish and bows for the girls and cologne for the boys. And now we have a pet portrait studio so we can capture them looking their best.”

Mary and her staff bond with dogs who board often or long term. “We form a personal relationship with them and this is like their second home.” Dogs get four walks a day and spend the night in spacious suites with their own cozy bed or romp in the fenced outdoor area or indoor playroom during a day visit.

They cater to pets’ every need and listen closely to owners about feeding habits, health concerns and pups’ personal preferences so that they’re relaxed and happy during their grooming session or stay. And happy pets make happy owners with smiles and wags all around.
