Church comes together in Abbey Meads Representatives from all denominations joined 150 people at Abbey Meads village green on 10 September to witness the birth of a church in Swindon's northern expansion. New minister Deaconess Maureen Spinks writes about the task before her on page 7.

Older voices to be heard Thamesdown's senior residents will be getting together for the first time at a 'Forum for Older People' on 30 October at the Link Centre to find out how they can have their views heard more clearly. Veteran campaigner Jack Jones M.B.E., President the National Pensioners Convention, will speak on the importance of older people expressing their needs through independent, community based groups. Other speakers will talk about housing, social services, education and leisure services. Future meetings in Swindon will depend on older people speaking out and being willing to make demands on decision makers and service providers. The day, organised by Age Concern Thamesdown, the University of the Third Age and Thamesdown Council's community development department, starts at 10am and closes at 4pm. It costs £1 and includes lunch. Dial-a-Ride transport is available. To find out more and to book a place at the Forum, call 493575.
