Residents take on international giant and win -
Plans by international airline booking company Galileo Systems to erect 6 chimneys at its Windmill Hifi computer back-up building were thrown out byThamesdown Council's planning committee at the beginning of April, after residents living closeby in Grange Park lobbied councillors to block the scheme. The planning application described the project as 'alteration to exhaust outlets from standby generators,' but residents discovered that the company intended to generate electricity for sale to the national grid at peak demand times. The residents have frequently complained about exhaust fumes from the Galileo buildings. They were concerned about a linkbetween diesel exhaust and cancer. Galileo have now announced that May. You could win a bike. it will not appeal against the deci(Note: VeloExpress has been put sion to refuse their application and in a letter to residents received on 21 forward by lots of people) A possible legal wrangle over ownership of a name has meant that Swindon's biggestcycle shop is without one. Refurbishment at Express Cycles was proceeding well for an Easter relaunch until owner John Mitchell discovered that the proposed new name VeloCity was already used by a shop in London. Rather than get tangled up with the law, he is appealing to readers to help him find a name which incorporates the value for money and the town's widest range of bicycles that Express Cycles has provided over the las t25 years. A slogan to go with the name is also wanted. If you have an idea fora name and a slogan, contact Mr Mitchell at 9699 Manchester Road, Swindon by 7 -
