10 year birthday this month at Oliver Tomkins School The pupils at Oliver Tomkins School, Toothil spent last term looking back over the ten years since their school opened. Every class in both the infants and the juniors used some aspect of the ten years in the life of the school in their studies. The early part of May will be spent celebrating the birthday. The pupils in Mrs Browns third year class (pictured right) worked with Barbara Cady, a parent from Freshbrook who offered to help them create a banner depicting the school and its activities. The youngsters used different types of fabric in a collage which portrays all the subjects studied under the national curriculum and the close connection the school has with the Church. The school will be filled throughout May with displays of project work completed last term, and an exhibition of information showing the history of the school from when it was being planned. There will be a big fun day on Friday 4 May for the children when there will be a playground party and hopefully a visit from Bishop Oliver Tomkins, the former Bishop of Bristol.

It ASDA get better Following publication of a critical letter last month, a group of residents visited the ASDA store manager. Read about the meeting on page12.

Plans for new village centre on show West Swindon's fourth village centre is now being planned for a site next to Peatmobr Lagoon. Although the centre, to serve Rougmoor and Sparcells, won't be built for some years, the planners at Thamesdown Council want to hear from people with an opinion about their proposals. Turn to pages 26 and 27 for details of a public exhibition. The area's newest building. All the way from Taiwan, but missing it's fop 'knob,' the mini pagoda on the island in Peatmoor Lagoon, opposite the Chinese Experience and the Roughmoor Village Centre site.

Link Magazine does well in big survey This time last year, many readers were returning a survey form published in The Link, in conjunction with Thamesdown Councils Community Development Division. Its taken some time we know, but we will publish the results over the next few editions. Altogether 568 survey forms were returned for analysis. This represents a 6% return rate from the 9,500 households which received The Link. Considering that the form was quite long, and required concentration, this was a very good response. The fact that so many people committed themselves to filling out

the form all the way to the end gives us confidence in the overall picture that the survey provides of West Swindon. The survey asked where readers live now and where they lived before arriving in the area; what they think of the services and facilities available here, and what they think of The Link magazine. In this edition we concentrate on the questions asked about The Link. For us, the results make welcome reading as it indicates that the magazine is providing what the readers want. On page 2 we start to look at how readers see us.

It's Election Time once more Voting takes place on Thursday 3rd May for seats on Thamesdown Council. On pages 4 and 5 we've invited the candidates for the seats in the Toothill and Freshbrook wards to introduce themselves.
