New names on the scene Several new names have appeared or will appear in the area in the near future. All have to do with food in one way or another. In February, the Dominoes Pizza fast-food takeaway and home delivery service opened at the West Swindon Centre. The Link is pleased that Dominoes have sponsored the latest version of the West Swindon map which will be of considerable help to residents and non-residents alike. Read all about them on page 24. Also in February, a start on building a third pizza outlet in the area was made on the Shaw Ridge Leisure Park site. Pizzahut will be located to the left of the entrance into the Park and will be open in the summer, four months ahead of the other facilities. Morlands Brewery will be operating the family restaurant being built on the Leisure Park site, but they have also just started to convert the near derelcit Brook House farmhouse, Shaw into a Peppercorn Restaurant. This will open in the summer. There's more details on page 27. Finally, 10 March sees the name Gateway finally disappear from West Swindon when the Deputy Mayor of Thamesdown will officially relaunch the superstore as an Asda.

Turn to page 3. Royal Mail service dedicated to the west A new Royal Mail delivery office commenced operations on 19 February and was officially opened on March 1. The new office, located on the Westmead Industrial Estate, near Westlea, will ease the space problems in the mechanised letter office in central Swindon. It will also reduce travelling time and costs for staff, and will ensure more reliable delivery times. All twenty-eight cycle and foot deliverers will operate on a dedicated basis. This means that for the first time, all households in West Swindon will have their own regular postman or woman. District Head Postmaster Brian Stark said, "The direct linking of postal staff with regular deliveries will help us foster a better relationship with customers and should help us to reduce the current high level of missorting and misdelivering of mail." person to collect mail which cannot be delivered to their address. "The move out to West Swindon is a reflection of the Royal Mail's determination to put the customer first," said Mr Stark.
