Protestors were out in force on May Day to object to Shaw Forest Country Park being redeveloped for a football stadium and sports facilities. On 14 May Sir Jonathon Porritt, Tony Blair's advisor on environmental matters, visited the site and cal'ed upon Swindon Council to consider the implication of destroying a developing park where thousands of people have planted trees for their children and grandchildren.
