Giant cake for birthday party Maywas the month of celebrations at Oliver Tomkins School with both the infant and juniors taking part in tenth anniversary events. The junior school held an all day party of fun and games on a scorching day, with each class taking turns ata variety of sporting games around the playing field. By contrast the infants had to hold their birthday picnic in the school hall because of rain. Each child had a stir of a class cake which were put together with all the others to make a big one which was iced by parent Rachel

Leighfield of Freshbrook. Ten candles were blown out by nine pupils representing each class and following the party the children and teachers joined hands to surround the school. The ten year celebrations were the subject of studies for the first part of the school term with each class looking at a different theme. Displays around the school included a collection of photographs taken when the school was being built and a collage of cutout pictures of each child around the cake.
