As part of the planning gain, the developers will extend the canal from Bevans Bridge, south of Kingshill, to the M4. Eventually this will be linked under the motorway to the Wootton Bassett section. Helping families with a heart child Emma Churchill from Toothill is the new Wiltshire contact for the Heartline Association. She became involved with the charity after her daughter Skye was diagnosed with Pulmonary Steno sis, a rare congenital heart disease,

system and makes her vulnerable to the slightest infection. Now Emma is ready to help other families. She said, "Heartline is a national charity which offers help and support to children with heart disorders and their families regardless of how slight or severe the condition may be. "Having a baby or child with a heart disorder is very stressful, particularly at the time of diagnosis, before surgery and the period after a corrective operation. No matter how supportive hospital staff are, as parents you will always have worries and unanswered questions. "Talking to another parent who has experienced a similar situationandunderstandshowyoufeel can ease the pressure a little and provide comfort." Skye is two and a half and has a leaky valve which means not enough blood is pumped to the lungs for oxygenation. The Dolls House Workshop in Studley Craft Village near M4Junction 16 has eighteen house styles, ranging from a Victorian town house to a pretty country cottage. New owners can build their house at the workshop or have it done for them for a fee of £40. Studley Grange owner Tony Miller. said that although a lot of shops sell kits, they don't provide the inspiration for furnishing and fitting the house. "We sell the kit and show people what they can do with it, and they can make it here." Everything you might need for a real house is available: scaled down to one twelfth the original size. The shop stocks wallpaper, carpets, furniture, lights and Christmas trees to complete the look.

Unfinished furniture can be customised and helpful staff will give advice. There are drop in workshops on Wednesdays and Fri-

days, costing £5 plus materials, and a children's session runs on Sundays from 1 Oam to midday. Fire fighters take to the road Fire fighters from Westlea Station will be touring West Swindon in the early evenings of 17 to 20 December. The streets to be visited have yet to be confirmed. Theft damages charity Age Concern Swindon suffered a break-in it could ill afford at the end of October. Around £2,000 worth of property was stolen or damaged including a laptop computer and projector bought with a National Lottery grant only months ago. Small amounts of cash and stamps were stolen. Locked furniture was broken open and damaged but an unsuccessful attempt was made to open a safe. Jo Osorio, director of Age Concern Swindon, said, "we are very disappointed that a charity like ours has been attacked in this way. We urgently need to raise funds this winter to meet a £50,000 anticipated deficit in our budget."
