The Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition was caught reading allabout cable television in west Swindon on the back page of the December Link when he visited the area before Christmas.

Out of Work

IF you'd rather fill time than kill time, the WEA Unemployed Branch offers company, Interest and a bit of purpose in life.

During his visit he met children at the Dunwich Drive Playgroup and rtmbers of the Toothill Community Centre Management Committee. In Freshbrook, he called on the Giddings Family of Godolphin Close. (more photos on the centre page)

LINK ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING All readers of the Link are invited to attend an Annual General Meeting of the Link Community Newspaper on Tuesday 19th February,7.30pm in the Community Room at Toothill School. Following any Dusiness matters that will take place, there will be cheese and wine for all those who come. Hope you can.

Centre Delayed

Another setback in the completion of Westlea's Community Centre has taken place Although in limited use by a playgroup and a toddler group, full completion of the Upper Shaw Farm centre was about eight months behind schedule. Westlea Residents Association members know that the project from first design has been going on for 4 years with one delay after another.

Rising 5s Worry

Once again, parents witfl summer born children are concerned that they will not be able to go to school in April. Numbers of "rising fives" are again high and there is a risk that they may not be able to go Unfortunately a burst pipe on 19th or 20th until September. In the past January flooded the ground floor making it if one west Swindon primary unusable for some weeks until it dries out school cannot take rising 5s, The two user groups have been found space none do. thanks to the Head of Westlea School.

It's a small group of unemployed people who have made time to meet on Tuesday mornings (10 a.m. to noon) to think and talk on matters of common Interest - personal, practical and political. With backing from a WEA tutor/organiser the group is also planning its own programme of speakers, discussions and outings. There's no charge, and a welcome for any newcomers young or old, men or women, at the WEA Centre, 36a Regent Street, off the alleyway beside the ABC.
