TASK 2 Building Design and Documentation

I started the design process by experimenting with a range of shape that was suggested in the book “Siteless” provided. My goal was to pick out the one shape that could be potentially be a functional building but it has to look interesting and challenging for practicing my modelling skill. Through out this task, I was testing different scale as well as figuring a massing model for my building design. Drawings that I have put in this final folio is the improved drawings from the original progress

Digital Sketches

Geometry digital sketches with Emap applied

In this task, I was experimenting with how the shape could occupied the site in both double modular design and also singular building mass.

Initial design proposal

For my first attempt, I was going for a quite rational and simple idea of slicing my shape with floors and the abstract form become a space and a circulation medium. But after getting feedback, I was encouraged to developed with something much more interesting and more intricate.

Second design proposal

My second attempt has gone quite far and I was quite unthoughtful about my design and the overall planning, circulation and function.

Final design proposal

With my final design, I was quite proud with how the design turned out as I got the inspiration from my digital sketches which I used a series of flowing abstract form along a main building geometry. Although it is quite an interesting design in my opinion, this building has created an unexpected numerous of challenges for my following tasks: techinical and textured drawings in term of lineweight, refinement, material and manymore.. Though I managed to accomplish them with effort.

Task 3

Drawings and Renders

The big idea that drive the design is the idea of the eye. The building is named the VSION library without one “I” because the “I” is the eye of the building. With the “pupil” is made by the book shelf tower in the middle of the library which is the core of a library means knowledge is consumed and recognized via the pupil (where light comes in and to the brain). The flowing abstract forms is orders along the whole building as light beacons that bring in light for the studying and reading space.
