2. The land on north ofsite belongs to private company of Vipul and Karamchand pvt ltd.

3. 30m wide road (W)

This 4 lane road is the only access to site. This road will be the main source of noise to site.

4. Climate extremities; high summer temperatures, hot western winds.

5. Contour levels range from 302.5m299m with slight contour of 0.5m.

Existing trees on west can be used as boundary for site.

This community housing is designed to create a healthy living environment by focusing on community spaces and green areas.

02 NMC PARK

Nagpur, Maharashtra

Landscape Design | SEM VII

Pocket spaces like the NMC Park are of great importance to the urban community living around it as it gives them access to nature and strengthens the local character. These spaces should be inviting and safe. This site was chosen in order to redesign and revitalize the neglected and declining areas. The existing site conditions do not fully cater to all the age groups and can be greatly improved.

The site can be redesigned to be a more welcoming and aesthetic space which provides the users a space for rest and relaxation.

This 1.7 acres site is surrounded by residential and commercial area. Residential being the majority. The site is situated around 900m away from the SH255 and the Metro line. South Ambazari road is the other main road which is located 200m away from site.

Noise comes from the vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement. Temporary noise-construction (East). Noise levels are not high as to take design considerations. Roads around the park are all 6m wide and have relatively lesser traffic than the main roads outside the vicinity.

CONCEPT AND INITIAL ZONING

COMMUNITY CENTERED DESIGN

Community centered design helps in enhancing the socio-culture and identity of a neighborhood or place as well as in improving social interaction.

It is mostly flat with contours ranging only from 321m - 319.5m. The drainage of site is towards North. The slope analysis done, tell us that around 90% of the site comes under ‘very gentle slope’ and the rest is ‘nearly level’.

USER AND ACTIVITY ANALYSIS

Since the site is a neighborhood park, it mostly caters to the people living in immediate vicinity. Primary users of the site are kids, teenagers and senior citizens. Adults or middle aged people are secondary users in terms of number. Primary activities of the site consist of walking, relaxing and use of kids play area. Majority of the activity happens during early morning and evening hours nearing sunset

According to user analysis these are the spaces to be included in the new design. Major activity of the site becomes walking, relaxing and playing. Divide different zones such as active and inactive zones.
