REMAPPING PUBLIC HEALTH The Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides “guidance, services, and strategies that make Chicago a healthier and safer city,” addressing many dimensions of health, including epidemiology, mental health, environmental safety, and sanitary food preparation. What if? . .. CDPH also promoted public health and wellness at the neighborhood scale? Using The Commonwealth as an example, CDPH could support safe spaces to connect, heal, and grow at neighborhood nodes. Each node would engage residents of all ages in cultivating locally grown food year-round, host cooking demos and farm-to-table events to promote healthy eating, provide safe and healing spaces for fitness, play, and reconnecting with the land and each other.
