Dear Ridgecrest City Government Councilmen and women representing us, our city and our town I ask that you vote Yes, in favor of our Indian Casino. In fact, I would like you to personally thank Nigel and George for attempting to provide us with such a wonderful development for our city. Folks this is something we simply should not and cannot turn our backs on. Regardless of all the “negative nellies” and the “sky is falling” nay-sayers, that voice opposition to such an enormous economic developer commitment and financial boost of tourism revenue, fun and excitement for our little town.

Not just all the “out of towners” it would attract, but think of the tourism dollars, hotel and motel occupancy tax revenue, goods and services and other sales tax revenue associated with the influx of these tourist and out of town folks visiting our town for such an wonderful attraction. Not to mention the jobs this would create. Overall it’s a winner’s situation with a wave of exponential tourism revenue. Many folks from out of town attracted to our city for something fun to do and many of them stopping in and staying awhile. This is a much needed economic shot in the arm that our city needs for we are struggling financially and almost solely reliant on the local military base.

We talk about having some diversity. We talk about having nothing to do or offer folks here or to attract others to Ridgecrest. Well here it is… “a gift horse” and its being provided with very little cost or asking in return. In fact, I see the big picture I see the added potential this will bring. You can’t get the LA / Victorville / San Bernadino / out of country or out of state tourist to stop in and have some fun and stay awhile or even overnight by just relying on the simple slogan of Ridgecrest being a “Gateway to Death Valley.” That isn’t working very well. If we are lucky they will stop and by a tank of gas and a beverage or a hamburger on their way through our town. We have nothing to offer them to make them think twice at staying any longer, or for a few hours, a day or overnight.

Folks, fun sells!! It literally sells itself! This is a no brainer. This is economics 101. This is the best type of “if we build it, they will come” offering that we have had next to our new Super-Walmart.

Let’s not let this one slip through our finger tips. These guys are ready to start right away, awaiting your approval. We aren’t going to have any negative impacts to the base from this. If anything there will be more contractors and government employees from other bases and facilities that will be more inclined to travel here for meetings and stay overnight without rushing back to the airport or immediately driving back out of town or over to Las Vegas to have some fun while away.

We have very little fun things to offer adults to do and or entertain themselves while here to make their visit a memorable one. This is opportunity for us to have a nice quality, clean, high class casino here in our small desert town. You don’t have to gamble or be into gambling to be entertained. You could go there to walk around and listen to music or go there to just “window shop” and look at all the lights. Visit the gift shop or the steakhouse. Having some innocent fun and throwing a few quarters in the slot or video machines or few dollars on the tables isn’t going to kill you. It can actually be fun. It’s a unique form of adult entertainment that we do not have. It’s an added spice that our town needs and could certainly benefit well from.

God forbid Hillary or Bernie get in this next election. We are solely dependent on our government base and its Washington funding as our only economic engine that we will surely suffer dearly if we have to endure another 4 more or possibly 8 more years of cuts or reductions in military defense spending.

These are tough times which call for tough solutions and sound economic decisions. I ask all of you to be smart and vote yes to this wonderful opportunity and rendering in the making. It simply makes good business since. Stop letting everyone drive out of town and spend their money in Bishop or in Beatty or Las Vegas all the time. Give them and their folks who might be visiting here something to do to have fun locally.

Do something that will attract other folks, other Government and Contractor personnel to want to come here. To want to hold their meetings here or attend the ones we wish to host here and have some fun while they are here. Who knows they might even spread the word that they actually had fun visiting us in such a remote location. Capture some of that 395 and Highway 14 traffic. Or that Death Valley bound traffic for a bit. Maybe a billboard investment up on the 395 and 14 highways would be another excellent idea. That way they won’t just drive bye without turning their heads this way to wonder or think about what we might have here to offer them for a short break or overnight stay. Many of them would make the short drive in and take the time to check us out. Probably worth several thousand times what the billboards would cost.

And let’s get the local air service to our valley re-established in Inyokern. We desperately need that as well Enough Said!!... You have now heard from the silent majority. Vote Yes, on the casino!
