VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR Tax-Aide Program We are looking for compassionate and friendly volunteers to join our team for the upcoming tax season. We'll provide the training and support to help you learn new skills, and you'll get a great feeling from helping those in need. Each year over 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers serve over 2 million people nationally. Last tax season, volunteers filed returns for over 200 taxpayers in the Ridgecrest area.Tax Counselors work with taxpayers by filing tax returns.

Client Facilitators welcome taxpayers, help organize paperwork, and manage the overall flow of service.

Technology Coordinators manage computer equipment, ensure taxpayer data is secure, and provide technical assistance to volunteers. We have a big demand for bilingual speakers in all roles. Please come to an Orientation Meeting to see if this is something you are interested in. You will have the opportunity to hear and talk about which volunteer position is best for you. All positions will attend additional training sessions.Some computer skills are required but training will be provided by experienced Tax-Aide volunteers. The program operates from February 1 through April 18 with a minimum service commitment of 10-12 hours per week. Training (40-80 hours) will be from December to February and is mostly online with some in-person help. Volunteers are reimbursed for

Exhibit Space Care Each exhibitor must keep spaces clean and exhibits staffed and in good order. All exhibits must be ready for display by 10a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Unoccupied Space

If the exhibitor fails to occupy space contracted for by Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 10a.m. or fails to comply in any other respect with the terms of this agreement, The Daily Independent & The Swap Sheet shall have the right to use such space in any manner without releasing the exhibitor from paying the sum agreed upon in this contract.

Limitations

Exhibits shall be so installed that they will not extend beyond the space alloted. Distribution of printed matter, souvenirs or other articles must be restricted to the space of the exhibit. Any part of the exhibit that is over eight (8’) high must have written approval for installation by The Daily Independent & The Swap Sheet. No individual public address systems or highly flammable materials will be permitted on the premises. Music or audio-visual sounds must not be audible more than five (5’) feet from booth.

Exhibitors are to remain within the confines of their booth and are not to work in public aisles.

Teardown Exhibits shall not be taken down prior to 5pm, Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, 2023

Eventuality

In any case of facility damage caused by fire, other elements or causes, or in case any other circumstances shall make it impossible for Management to permit the contracted space to be occupied by the exhibitor shall waive any claim for damage or compensation except the pro-rate return of the amount paid for space rental.

Tomato Pie

1-1/4 pounds tomatoes (about 4 medium), cut into 1/4inch slices 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed 1 to 2 tablespoons half-and-half cream 5 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled filling: 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup loosely packed basil leaves, thinly sliced 2 tablespoons minced fresh marjoram 1-1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/8 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper

Preheat oven to 350°. Place tomato slices in a single layer on paper towels; sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Let stand 45 minutes. Pat dry. Meanwhile, place cheese, flour and remaining salt in a food processor; pulse until blended. Add butter; pulse until butter is the size of peas. While pulsing, add just enough cream to form moist crumbs. Press dough onto bottom and up side of an ungreased 9-in. fluted tart pan with removable bottom. Gently press bacon into dough. Bake 20-22 minutes or until light brown. Cool on a wire rack.

In a large bowl, beat cream cheese, herbs and garlic powder until blended. Spread over crust. Top with tomato slices; sprinkle with pepper. Bake 35-40 minutes longer or until edge is golden brown and tomatoes are softened. Cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate leftovers.
