The landscaping and play area in Phase 1B by the new station square next to Blackwall DLR station is almost complete. The playground will open when the work on the path alongside it is finished and the play area has received a final safety inspection (subject to Covid-19 regulations). Overall, this entire area is looking great with its new trees, planting and green space.
We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the online public consultation events for Phase 3 in May and September this year. Over 200 people attended our virtual events and visited the consultation pages of the website. You provided valuable input and feedback which helped us shape the proposals into what will be a fantastic addition to the east side of Millennium Green.
Early in the new year, you will start to see rapid progress on homes in Phase 2. Swan and the Council will soon be writing to residents looking forward to moving into this phase to give them some more information. Cranes are now returning to the site. One crane is already in position and it will shortly be joined by two more cranes. Once the cranes are safely erected, installation work on the facades of the new buildings can begin. We are delighted to announce that the reserved matters planning application for the next phase of the regeneration was submitted to Tower Hamlets Council on 5 November 2020. The Phase 3 planning application is for 315 new residential homes, a café/restaurant, concierge and ancillary space for residents, all within two main buildings between six and 12 storeys in height. This is further enhanced by landscaping, children’s play space, new public realm and additional improvements to Millennium Green.

New shops opening at Phase 1B Two new businesses have opened in the new Station Square commercial area joining Dream Nails who started trading in the summer. Chairman Gentleman Grooming and Coffee Dock saw lots of customers in their first few weeks of trading and they look forward to welcoming more new customers in the months ahead. Look out for More Yoga who are looking forward to welcoming people to their classes shortly. We will be sharing more news about the new businesses opening at Blackwall Reach soon. Update from Abul Hasnath, Chair of the Blackwall Reach Residents’ Board Abul Hasnath is the elected Chair of the Blackwall Reach Residents’ Board (BBRB). He previously lived on Robin Hood Gardens with his family and was one of the first residents to move to the new homes on Blackwall Reach. The Committee at BRRB are very pleased with the ongoing activities that have continued to take place on the estate during this extraordinary time. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic since March, we’ve still been able to offer activities that residents on the estate can participate and be involved in. The cycling sessions for women have been phenomenal and the feedback has been great! I hope the BRRB and Swan can continue to work together so that we can deliver more activities like this for everyone who lives at Blackwall Reach. We can’t deny that it’s been a tough few months, but we want to reassure you that the BRRB is still meeting, and the independent committee still serves the residents of Blackwall Reach. We meet regularly with other residents and representatives from Swan, via Zoom. This is a free, online meeting platform, open and accessible to most people. We do understand that this may be a new way of working for some of you but due to the current
restrictions, it seems to be the safest and most accessible option for everyone. If you have a smart phone, tablet or computer connected to the internet it is easy to join our meetings. Please look out for the meeting joining instructions on the Blackwall Reach Residents website or contact Swan’s RICD Team on 01277 844242 or email involvement@swan.org.uk. They will pass all messages directly to me.
Freewheeling - Women on Wheels
Women on Wheels (WOW) is a new initiative on Blackwall Reach that aims to encourage more women to take up cycling. Cycling and other physical activities have grown in popularity, yet research shows that many women who live in Tower Hamlets may benefit from being more physically active. WOW encourages women to talk about being active while introducing them to the benefits of cycling. After a bumpy start due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the group is now up and running and the feedback we’ve received has been fantastic. Everyone who has taken part in this free project
has really enjoyed it. One of the ladies remarked: “It’s good to be outside, it is so nice to be able to enjoy this type of activity again”. The weekly WOW sessions, led by a female instructor, are free for residents of Blackwall Reach and run in partnership with Access Sport and Bikeworks. The group meets outside in the forecourts of The Reach Community Hub. Free training and employment opportunities Swan has a dedicated team of people who can help you with free employment and training support tailored to your needs, whatever they may be. We can help you gain basic skills or access advanced training, arrange work experience, access apprenticeships or graduate schemes. We can also help you to write your CV or prepare for an interview, and provide additional support to help you achieve your personal goals! We have lots of accredited e-learning courses available free for residents. The courses cover many different topics from creative thinking to digital marketing as well as courses that focus on working in customer service, retail, care and many more.

Social housing tenancy successions We have recently received some enquiries about succession applications from Blackwall Reach residents who moved from from Robin Hood Gardens. Here is the key information about tenancy successions when the original, named tenant has passed away to help to answer your questions: •
Surviving spouses or joint tenants will succeed the existing tenancy in full.
•
Qualifying children can succeed the tenancy if their household meets the occupancy levels of the property and will be granted an assured tenancy.
•
Qualifying children whose household does not meet the occupancy levels but have other household members living with them, and the property is not under occupied, will be offered a rolling five year tenancy for as long as the property remains fully occupied.
•
Qualifying children whose household does not meet the occupancy levels, and the property is under occupied will be offered an assured tenancy in a smaller property.

January works on Poplar High Street On 11 January work will start on the pipework connecting the district heating to the next phase of Blackwall Reach. This involves laying pipework across Poplar High Street. The works are expected to take approximately six weeks to complete and during this time part of Poplar High Street will be reduced to a single lane controlled by traffic lights. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience these essential works will cause.

ফ্রিহুইলিং - উইমেন অন হুইলস্(Freewheeling - Women on Wheels)
