Station Square: sculpture, shops and community activity Development update: Station Square (Phase 1B) One of the key aims of this project, as well as providing new homes, was to ensure that the whole community had great public spaces to enjoy and local services to use. The project partners are really pleased that the new artwork, created in partnership with the local community, is now complete and on permanent display in your new Station Square. The large sculpture in the centre of Station Square by artist, Jo Chapman, is complemented by glazed panels displayed on the ground floor of Royal Captain Court, opposite Perseus Court. Both designs were inspired by Blackwall’s historic location and links to the rope making industry, the docks and the nearby River Thames.

It’s great to see the commercial spaces are now operational, providing local services to residents and that the community is making use of the new public spaces. Refuse update Work to increase the capacity of the underground refuse chambers was completed last month. The surface material surrounding the bin chutes was upgraded at the same time. Station Square residents are asked to continue using the recycling bulk store in Perseus Court (accessed through the concierge) and report missed rubbish collections to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets using their online form: towerhamlets-self.achieveservice.com/service/ Report_a_missed_bin_collection

Future plans for Swan Housing Office at Blackwall Reach As life begins to return to normal following the Covid-19 pandemic, Swan is taking some time to review the use of their office space at Blackwall Reach. Further information will be made available to residents as these plans develop further.

Development update: Parkside Parkside West (Phase 2) External facades continue to be installed on all four buildings. Precast concrete panels are in place on Wayfare House (block C3) except those purposely left open for access while the building is made watertight. On Gosnold House (block C2), half the precast panels have been installed. On Venture House and Quest House (block D and block C1) traditional hand-laid brick work has started, while inside the internal walls, plumbing and electrical work has begun to take shape. Once the buildings are fully watertight, the work moves inside. We are looking forward to showing you this progress through the regular site videos which can be found on www.blackwallreachcommunity.co.uk/. The Parkside West private sale apartments were launched last month. Swan is a not-for-profit organisation; profits generated from the sale of private homes are reinvested in Swan’s communities. For more information please visit: blackwallreach.co.uk or call the sales team on 020 3151 7049 Please be aware that over the coming months construction works may take place on the Phase 2 site on Saturdays to maintain progress of the build. If you have any questions or concerns on a Saturday, please contact Site Manager, Andrew Glassett on 07719 985038. Parkside East (Phase 3) Swan is eagerly awaiting the planning decision on Robin Hood Gardens East, for 315 new residential homes, a café/restaurant, concierge and communal space for residents, all within two main buildings between six and 12 storeys in height, as well as new landscaping to the Millennium Green. We hope to have an update on the decision in the summer.

Construction Skills update Swan has recently supported 14 local residents through a Construction Skills programme in partnership with New City College. The first part of the programme was delivered in a classroom environment and the groups are currently undertaking work experience on site with NU living. The programme serves as an introduction to electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills and after completing the work experience, Swan will provide further support to help everyone involved to reach their learning or career goals. This programme is helping to develop a local workforce who have the skills and experience required by Swan, NU living and all local employers within the construction industry.

Following the Blackwall Reach Residents’ Board (BRRB) AGM meeting held on 18 May the following people were elected to the official positions: Chair – Shamsur Choudhury Vice Chair – Shopna Khan Secretary – Abdul Halim Choudhury, supported by Fola Ademoye Treasurer – Nasima Bibi The next meeting will be held on 21 Sept at 6pm. If you would like more information about the BRRB please contact Berenika on bzembski@swan.org.uk
