This is why Sandie and a few other Bentley Park residents set aside time in their diary to get together and play board games each fortnight. Armed with a variety of board games, drinks and nibbles you will find the Board Game Group at The Club on the first and third Friday of each month from 6pm. Here they will decide on what to play with some favouring Skip-Bo, others Bananagrams, Rummikub, or Monopoly. Whether your preference is word or number games, you are bound to find someone to join you. “I love word games” club leader Sandie explains. “My favourite is Bananagrams, so quite some time ago a few of us started getting together in each other’s units to play games. Once The Club was built, we decided to move there so we could expand the group and really enjoy the evening. There is never a plan prior, we just rock up and decide on the night what to play. We sometimes play until 8pm, other nights we may play until 9pm and we always have a lot of fun. You can hear the laughter a mile away I’m sure!” “We generally get between 10 – 14 regulars each fortnight but we would love to see some new faces,” said Sandie. “Bring a drink and nibbles and if you have a favourite board game bring that too. We love learning new games but do have a collection of games we bring with us to choose from.” “We will be taking a break over Christmas and January with our last group of the year meeting on Friday the 16th of December, but we will be back from the 3rd of February.” So, if you are looking for bouts of laughter to finish off your week, or just keen to meet a great group of people, join Sandie and the Board Game Group Fridays fortnightly. Board games can enhance memory formation and help exercise cognitive skills. But more than that, board games are heaps of fun and can bring back the belly laughs and heightened enjoyment of our childhood.

Fish N Chips with Friends At our November lunch, we ran our own version of the Melbourne Cup. There was lots of fun and laughter as the horses headed to the finishing Line. Even our special guest Garry was roped into being a Jockey! The winners were for race 1: Maureen and race 2: Adleen. The entertainer for November “The B-Sharps” had all residents bopping in their seats. Coming up Entertainers for our Christmas theme on Friday the 2nd of December is Paul Robinson and for Valentine’s Day theme on Friday the 3rd of February 2023 is Robert Graham. All residents and especially new residents are most welcome to join us at our monthly luncheons. Raffle tickets are on sale with prizes to be won. Writing Group Hi everyone – what an interesting year we have had – good or bad! The health of members was a major issue all year - however, it did not stop the interest in writing and/or productivity and some fine texts have been set down. For those interested in writing a family history, letters to some Editor, articles on a particular topic or a book, you are welcome to attend our class in 2023 and learn how to do the same creative thing, which is very exciting for us all! We have held our last meeting for this year but plan to restart in mid - February 2023. Meanwhile club members have several topics to use as starting points for more creativity, if they wish, and I look forward to what is brought forth!! Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
