SwanCare Centres Auxiliary
We are nearing the end of our 2022 year, and what a great year it has been. We would like to let you know of some changes that we are making in 2023. In February and March we will have our meetings as normal and then we swap to every second month. For those who love their diaries, the months for 2023 meetings are February, March, May, July, September, and AGM in November. We will still be organising outings during the year. Claudia from SwanCare Ningana was very thankful to all residents and Auxiliary for the donation of cups, saucers, and cake plates. They use them for birthdays and events. Bentley Park Bulletin
Swan Village Bowling Club Patrons of the Swan Village Bowling Club have enjoyed many decades of outdoor bowls and social outings, all the while building membership to become one of the biggest clubs here at SwanCare. Newly appointed president, Stan Barclay, has had a long history with bowls. “I’ve always been interested in it, but I only started bowling when I moved into SwanCare a few years ago,” said Stan. “Some of my youngest memories, were of being at bowling clubs with my dad as he bowled throughout his life.” Stan joins the team while the club is in good standing, with plenty of gala days and sold out social outings. But as always, they’re on the lookout for more players and hope that you will consider joining. “On bowling days, we meet around 1:00pm to set up and for some social chatter,” said Stan. “By 1:30pm we’ve picked the skips and allocated rink positions, as well as had a brief about general club notices. Then it’s time for a roll!” Members are a mixture of people who have bowled all their life, as well as people who have just started. “It’s an interesting game and quite entertaining,” said Stan. “You’re always in a different team every time you play as we draw rinks out of a container.” According to Stan, Wednesdays and Saturdays are most of the members favourite day to bowl. “On Wednesdays we have drinks and snacks after the game,” said Stan. “It is a fantastic way to finish off the afternoon. Everyone enjoys it!” Stan says that there are both serious players and those who are more social. “At the end of the day we’re all aiming for the white ball, or where the skipper tells you to put it!” laughs Stan. “Don’t be shy, we welcome everyone to play bowls with us!” This month’s general notices: Winners of the recent gala event were Angie Wieman, Barry Williams, Dave Hartley, and Cecil Cahill. The club had an enjoyable time bowling with Rowethope residents in October. Remember there will be a Gala Day on the 12th of November – keep an eye on the notice board for more details.
