Heading further into winter, we’re experiencing the odd day when play has either been curtailed or abandoned altogether. Thankfully, they have been few and far between. We are blessed with many stoic bowlers who are willing to brave the wet and the wind and keep playing. The wind being the bane of the bowlers life.

As always, we welcome new members and the “just looking” to come and try a “roll up” with us. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00pm with a “Happy Hour” after the game on Wednesdays. There are no special functions on the programme for July at this stage. Cheers and happy bowling. SwanCare Allsorts Choir If you walk by the Auditorium on a Tuesday afternoon, you’ll hear the sweet harmonies of this friendly bunch! The SwanCare Allsorts Choir has been singing for 4 years sharing their songs with residents and at several other locations including Carousel Shopping Centre. It was tough to get the group off the ground, but once they found their groove nothing could stop them. “When the numbers weren’t what I wanted, I rang a friend of mine who was a choir master,” said Maureen Grickage, SwanCare Allsorts Choir Coordinator. “He said ‘stop having meetings and sing!’ and that’s exactly what we did!” Maureen was very clear when she said they’re more than just a choir. “We supported each other through the pandemic and when we couldn’t come together, we sometimes we just met for fellowship,” said Maureen. “This has continued on today where we now have tea, coffee, and chocolate biscuits at the last meeting of the month as a social celebration.” The Choir is currently in a very strong position for numbers, but Maureen encourages more people to come along and give it a go for a month to see if you would like to commit. “We currently have 23 members,” said Maureen. “There 9 men in our chorus, which is unheard of for a community choir. Our conductor and choir master is Bentley Park resident, Harry Williams and our wonderful Piano player who keeps us in time is Bentley Park resident, Laurie Hudson.” Some of you may be sitting there thinking, it’s not for me I can’t sing, but Maureen assures us that ability doesn’t matter that much. “Some come with experience and others don’t,” said Maureen. “The more you sing the more you improve. We will welcome anyone with enthusiasm who wants to come along.” The SwanCare Allsorts Choir have an event coming up on the 24th of July for the Bentley Park Social Committee. “It will be a great afternoon,” said Maureen. “The free event has afternoon tea provided and the format is more interactive encouraging the audience to sing along. We’d love to see you there!” Above all Maureen wants everyone to know how good singing makes you feel. “Singing is one of the best things to make you feel better. Whether you can sing or not it doesn’t matter, just sing along to your favourite song and let it all go!” If you are a SwanCare Bentley Park resident and would like to join or ask a few questions, get in touch with Maureen today.
